Support Wounded Warrior Charity with Her First Night by #MFRWauthor @LiviaQuinn

Her First Knight: Under-Cover Knights, the prequel
by Livia Quinn
Contemporary Military Romance
Campbell Hill Publishing

“Tucker, Tucker.”

Ridge is an inventor, ex-Ranger, a billionaire CEO on a mission for veterans. So with the big vote on his bill coming up, how had he wound up on stage beside two cover models, with a hundred women shouting, “take it off”? That’s the question his friends and family would be asking tomorrow, if they found out. That, and “Who’s Tucker?” He’d just have to make sure no one found out about his little side trip. It could turn into his worst nightmare.

It had seemed like a recipe for harmless fun. A curious CEO on the way to his room follows a gorgeous redhead onto the wrong floor. Add a hundred romance writers and readers attending a conference. Toss in some false assumptions, throw out a lifetime of good behavior and Ridge was up to his Special Forces tattoo in manure.

REVIEWS
""There is a part near the end of this book that brought me to tears...I was sobbing. This book is dedicated to veterans and it's just a beautiful scene. If you haven't read it you'll know which one it is, if you have.... well you know what scene I'm talking about."" Amazon

""I really enjoyed this book. The characters were wonderful and the story was great. Most of all, it brings up the troubles that vets are having getting help from the VA for their ptsd and other medical problems. My dad was a proud WW11 vet til the day he passed and he had many problems getting help from the VA. I hope all of you that read this find a way to give a helping hand to our wounded warriors."" Amazon

PROCEEDS DONATED to the Wounded Warriors Charity between November 5-15, 2015.

EXCERPT
"Whether congress votes yes or no, we will move forward.”
“I’ve heard about some of the problems veterans face but didn’t realize the extent of it,” Buffy said, refilling his coffee.
“The burden on the VA is growing, with so many veterans between the ages of nineteen and twenty-five. With the agency’s recent problems, horror stories abound of vets dying or starving while waiting on diagnosis, care, or treatment. Many of them travel great distances to the nearest VA and face an overwhelming stream of paperwork, in addition to financial hardships on their families. Others end up on the street due to mental disorders or lack of appropriate care. It’s unacceptable.
“There's a vast disparity between what the government promises and what it can actually provide in terms of medical services and after care. Our consortium partners will also deal with other issues—housing, education, family support, even file paperwork, and provide transportation.”
“I’ve been talking to Sally Freeman, you remember her?” Buffy asked.
“Yes. The author with the WWP fund.”
“Sally told me women are more than twice as likely to have PTSD. And I didn’t realize that the majority of amputees were in the Army.” Like Ridge’s brother. “It seems overwhelming.”
“There’s a lot of need.” Ridge got up and poured himself another cup of coffee. He seemed unsettled suddenly. Buffy suspected the discussion brought the circumstances with his brother closer. “My concentration has been on prosthetics in the past, but replacing a limb isn’t the worst thing that can happen. These are the days of true bionics, where the replacement can add flexibility and advantages the human limb couldn’t.”
He looked out onto the backyard. “Even more important is the diagnosis of mental disorders so soldiers can be treated and find value in life again, and share in the support of their families. It’s the minimum they deserve. These are proud men and women who don’t like to have to ask for handouts or even treatment that’s due them. I want to see that end.”

ABOUT Livia Quinn
Livia Quinn grew up near DC—go Redskins!—then moved to the bayous of Louisiana—go Saints! Yes, she’s a huge football fan. With a life long fascination, read that: phobia of storms, and with severe weather a part of life in Louisiana, it was only natural that it would play a big part in her world. Livia’s Storm Lake series encompasses paranormal on the West end of the lake in Destiny and military romance and contemporary to the East in Larue and Thunder Point. But there’s always magic because what would life be without a little magic?

***All profits from the sale of HER FIRST KNIGHT from November 5 through the 15th will go toward wounded warrior charities. See the vets links page on my website.***

It's a CRAZY STORM with #MFRWauthor @LiviaQuinn!

Storm Crazy

Storm Lake: Destiny Paramortals, #1
Livia Quinn
Paranormal Urban Fantasy
Campbell Hill Publishing

He’s looking for normal, but has he found Mayberry or Middle Earth?

To say I was having a bad day would be like saying Katrina dropped a little rain on the Gulf Coast. I’m Tempest Pomeroy, a mail carrier and Paramortal like my family. Or I’m supposed to be. If I didn’t have a few little talents, I’d think I was adopted.
I’ve denied my heritage for too long. Now, my mother’s out of pocket, my brother’s genie bottle is missing and the sheriff thinks I’m the cause of all the trouble. Hmm, he could be right.
Oh, and the sheriff? He thought he’d settled in a normal small town to raise his teenage daughter. Like Mayberry. Not…

Things better settle down soon ‘cause I’m about to go Storm Crazy

Destiny, Louisiana is a place much like Mayberry— except for the Tempestaeries, Djnn, vamps and a few other... elements. Okay, to be honest, it’s more like Middle Earth.

Reviews
“Loved the story and the characters…A really great read.” -Amazon reviewer
“I'd recommend this book for anyone who wants a taste of southern supernatural fantasy. A great read.” -Amazon reviewer

Excerpt
Palm up, I concentrated, willing menori inside me to obey. Nothing. I squeezed my eyes shut, grit my teeth, and whispered hopefully, “Come to me.”
Blast! I sounded like a bad vamp movie. Separating my index finger, the one with the tiny tattoo-like image on the tip, away from my other fingers, I turned it up toward the darkening sky. The cells in my body began to vibrate. Like an energy solar panel, menori tapped the unstable air and focused it like a laser through the tattoo, accumulating until my head felt like it would explode.
The rumble beneath my feet was the only notice I had of the electric strike that rode straight up my legs, curling in my midsection and crawling swiftly along my right arm to produce my own version… of a Fourth of July sparkler, emanating out of that fingertip. Then the sparks changed. Brilliant bolts of crackling white light spit and sizzled in my palm, sending jagged streamers of acrid smelling blue fire ten feet into the air. I just gawked.
A car entering a nearby street freed me from the mesmerizing light display. This was different from any of the charging I’d previously experienced. Bigger. Usually it just sort of replenished on its own. Panicked, I looked over my shoulder, and exhaled. So far so good.
Now what? I needed to command the fire in my hand to... what? Before I could say, “Be gone,” or “Go thither,” the light subsided to a small crackly glow. So, that was it.
Instinct took over. I knelt by Mr. Jackson, placing my glowing index finger against his chest. With a single szzwaattt, I zapped him, right in the heart. His chest arched up only the barest of seconds as it met my magical defibrillator, then his body relaxed.
Momentarily deafened and somewhat addled as my faculties came back online, I groped for the pulse in his neck. For a second I thought I’d failed. But then, his tired, smoke glutted organ started beating. Thank the gods.
Only the slight whiff of burnt flesh remained on the wind. Drained of energy, I swiped my hand across my forehead. Then, I saw the mark.
“Zeus’ rechargeable bolts! That better be temporary.”
On his skin where I’d zapped him, a pale image was forming. It looked like a pale, mini version of… well… me.

Meet #MFRWauthor @LiviaQuinn & Her First Knight

Meet MFRW Author Livia Quinn.
Livia Quinn is a D.C. native living in Louisiana. Her Storm Lake series was born after a layoff and a little known event called Katrina in 2005. Tell Us About Your Writing Schedule.
I write fairly fast but during my seasonal business I have little time so I spend twenty minutes in the tub in the morning with my notebook and continue on my forty-minute drive to work. That's how I completed my most recent book. Unfortunately, revising can't be done in the tub, or on the road ;)

How Do You Develop Your Characters?
Characters come to me in their setting or with their passion and they literally unfold the story to me. My Under-Cover Knights heroes, Luc and Ridge, surprised me with their devotion to others, for causes like disadvantaged teens and Veterans’ needs. Research for Her First Knight hit me so hard I decided in May and November all sales for this book would be dedicated to Wounded Warrior charities.

Do You Include Sex Scenes In Your Books?
I love a good love scene but I don't need the minute details. I'd rather feel their emotions and passion, not that I don't write and read hotter books. Undone was on the erotic side, but my priority was making sure Cass' passion for Elektra came across.

Does Your Husband Read Your Books?
Ha! My husband's input on Her First Knight was about the cover. He couldn't understand why my cover designer couldn't remove Grigoris Drakakis' black leather coat. He said he needed more skin! But he doesn't read paranormal so he's no help there.

Do You Like Hearing From Readers?
I love hearing from my readers and enjoy their input and ideas but ultimately a writer has to write what's in her heart, and my characters tell me their story. I'm just kind of their biographer so there's not a lot I can do. <grin>

Tell Us About Your Latest Project.
I just finished book 4 in the Destiny Paramortals. Blame it on the Moon brings Jack and Tempe's coming of age arc to a head but their story and that of the other characters in Destiny - the paranormal end of Storm Lake - will continue. The further east you go on Storm Lake the less magic is apparent. Although Ridge from Her First Knight did make an important appearance in Blame it on the Moon. It will be available in May followed by a contemporary, the first Thunder Point book in August.

Her First Knight
Under-Cover Knights #2
Contemporary Romance
Campbell Hill Publishing

Ridge Romano was a genius inventor, military contractor and CEO of two billion dollar companies. He was on a mission for vets. Fun was not a word in his vocabulary. So how had he wound up on a stage between two cover models playing strip bingo, with a hundred women crying, “Take it off”?

He’d pay for this.
Buffy was looking for was the face of her franchise. At the conference she’d found her man. The late arrival had that 'je ne sais quoi' that would make her studio an immediate success. She had to have him. There was just one problem. He wasn’t a cover model, had 'more important priorities - veterans'.

Who was she to argue with such a noble cause? Buffy wanted Tucker. Could this be the first time a Calloway was wrong?

EXCERPT
"He’s the one, isn’t he?” Her mother’s eyes lit with a strategic fire. “Isn’t he, Lana Jean Calloway?”Buffy hadn’t heard her full name in that tone of voice since she was eight. “No one’s keeping anything from you, Mom. I’m sure if you ask Ridge right now if he’s the one, he’d back out of here quicker than you could say gumbo. Please don’t blow it.” “You knew about this, Mother,” Pamela said.“Mom, it’s not quite time to go shopping for a wedding dress, ‘ya know?” She hugged her mother, but Buffy could tell she wasn’t about to give up. She gave Lillie a what now? grimace and Lillie patted them both on the back.“Come on, ladies. They could go on until next month about the wars and your Mr. Romano’s project but I think they could use a distraction. Buffy, grab the potatoes.”Lunch proceeded without a hitch. Ridge made the rounds thanking everyone for their support and promised to come back one day. This sounded too much like the distant future to Buffy. Shaking Earl’s hand he said, “Sir, my company has a more advanced prosthesis. I can arrange it for you if you’re interested; it’s lighter and more flexible than the version you have.” Earl narrowed his eyes and said, “Son, I’m ninety-three years old. This old arm and I do just fine. Getting a new one at this stage of my life would be like a woman gettin’ fake boobs when she’s past her prime.”“Old coot,” Ridge thought he heard Lillie say under her breath. “Watch it, Dad,” said Robert who just put his arm around a steaming Lillie and hugged her. “Ignore him, sugar.”“Now, Earl,” Roberta said, and her look seemed to be the only thing that made him quail.Buffy’s great-grandfather shook Ridge’s hand and, looking around him at Buffy, said, “You chose a fine man, youngin’.”Silence.Ridge turned slowly to look at Buffy. She shook her head, mouthed, Wasn’t me. She watched with an impending sense of doom as her mother put her hand on Ridge’s shoulder. “Might as well buy the ring, dear. When a Calloway tells you, you’re the one, it’s like saying, “If I tell you the moon is made of green cheese, get your crackers.”Buffy’s head sank into her hands. Why had she thought this picnic could take place without a bomb going off?

Undone - The setting: New Orleans and Pernambuco, Brazil. One year ago, Antiquities dealer Elektra Charpentier lost the rarest opal she'd ever almost owned, and the only man she'd ever loved.
Now he's back.
Aussie gem hunter Cass McKay spent the last year searching for Elektra's Blood Opal and a way back into her life and her heart.
Now he has it. And he doesn't intend to lose her again, because without her, he's -- U n d o n e " Like a Rumba or Salsa...the beat of this story will get cha!

EXCERPT
""Hot, hot, hot! Did I mention, it's hot? Loved the scenes in Brazil...Strong characters. Tight, fast plot. Oh, and it's hot.""

""I loved this book!! Exciting, sexy and sit on the edge of your seat kind of book!!!""" "A low animal growl sounded from deep in his chest as he halted, still deep within her, his chest heaving in agonizing uneven breaths. In a single fluid motion, he levered himself off of her to sit on the edge of the bed.

Oh my God, what was happening to them? Agony clamped down on her heart. How could she make this right? Shoulders slumped; he held his shaking hands in front of his face as if he didn’t recognize them as his own. “I’m sorry,” He whispered raggedly.

“Cass—”

Cass held up an unsteady hand. He only had a few words left and he wanted to get them said. He wiped his hand over his face, disgusted. Looking down he saw the rose petals crushed and broken beneath his feet. Like his heart.
He’d done it again; he’d given up his self-respect to this woman who only wanted him for sex and a piece of glorified rock. And this time he’d forced himself on her in an act not entirely of love.

It was over.

He placed his fingers on her chin and waited until she returned his gaze. “When are you going to figure out that you became the successful, intelligent, creative woman you are, despite that sonofabitch of a father? You might flash the Blood in your father’s face, but you’ll only be disappointed if you think it will make him respect you.”

“No, I—”

He pulled his pants on, his shoulders hunched, shook his head. When he turned to her, she ached at the pain and defeat in his eyes.

“You’re terrified of relying on someone, on me— trusting me.”

She couldn’t speak because what he said was true. At least it had been— once.

He stroked her cheek, a slight tremor in his fingers then his hand dropped to his side, “You’re breaking my heart, sheila.”

He walked to the door, said quietly, “Whatever it takes, I’ll get your opal. Then maybe I can move on.”

“But—” he’d tuned her out.

“I won’t touch you again.” As if all his energy had been drained, he rested his forehead against the hard wood. “I have to try to move on.”

Then he was gone."
