#MFRWauthor Book Spotlight: Fangs (Feral Justice) by Vella Munn

Vella Munn released a new book!
Fangs

As death and danger stalk the southern Oregon coast, Mia Sandas and Jeff Julian must trust each other. Can they handle the truth?

When a poacher leaves a wounded elk cow to suffer, Mia Sandas has no choice but to end its misery. Before she’s forced to do the same to the cow’s orphaned calf, a massive gray dog appears and snaps its neck.

Unknown to Mia, this is the beginning of a test of her courage and comprehension. As she turns to Fish and Wildlife Officer Jeff Julian, the gray and his four-legged companions stalk local animal abusers.

Jeff and Mia are drawn together as they seek understanding of what is taking place in the forested mountains. They canines are committed to primitive justice but why? Who are the targets and what will be the outcome?

Can Jeff and Mia stop more bloodshed—and do they want to?
EXCERPT
Crack! Crack!
Her heart pounding and breath caught, Mia Sandas stopped. The explosion wasn’t that close, the location impossible to pinpoint. Still, it alarmed Banshee enough that her dog barked and whined until she ordered him to stop. She strained to catch any and all sounds that didn’t belong in the wilderness.
As the seconds passed and the sounds weren’t repeated, her heart rate slowed. Her breathing remained ragged.
Vulnerable. She was fighting the fight or flight instinct because, alone except for Banshee, she was vulnerable. Rifle shots were common in southern Oregon’s coastal forest during hunting season, but it was June. If someone had been target shooting he or she would have fired more than twice, right?
Prompted by Banshee’s tension, Mia abandoned the deer trail she’d been on and followed the Rottweiler-bullmastiff cross-country. The change in direction took her straight up Dark Mountain. Her hundred pound plus, mostly black mutt picked his way around the ground-blanketing vegetation. Because Mia’s business demanded physical labor, the climb didn’t tax her.
Although nature’s sounds had resumed, Banshee remained determined to find some answers. In the three years they’d been companions, Mia had learned to take him seriously. Banshee could snore with the best of them—usually on the couch near her wood stove—but when his hackles lifted and he exposed his fangs, the dog meant business.
Despite his solid form, Banshee moved almost soundlessly. So did she, thanks to lessons learned from the uncle and his wife who’d raised her in Alaska. If she was going to continue to live near the wilderness, which she needed to with every fiber she possessed, she had to remain part of her surroundings.
Banshee stopped and looked back at her, prompting her to return his gaze. A little over a hundred feet above them the land briefly leveled and opened up, revealing good summer feeding ground for the coast’s Roosevelt elk.
At the thought of elk, she sucked in clean, cool, damp air. She wasn’t afraid for herself and only marginally so for Banshee, but she might soon see something she didn’t want to. Not far away, a long-abandoned logging road crawled up this side of the mountain. Only a few people knew of its existence, most of them hunters.
Not hunters this time of the year. Poachers.

#MFRWauthor Book Spotlight: Her Brother's Keeper @JJDiBenedetto

A NEW Book by J.J. DiBenedetto!
Her Brother's Keeper
Jane Barnaby thought she’d planned the perfect Christmas vacation. She’d invited her father and his fiancĂ© to join her in Spain at her archaeological dig. They’d see her work, meet her mentor and enjoy a few days of sunny Mediterranean beaches in the dead of winter. What could go wrong?

Her annoying brother tagging along, and then landing in jail for a crime he didn’t commit, for one thing.

To clear her brother’s name and make her vacation perfect again, all Jane has to do is chase the mystery woman who set her brother up across Europe, find her in a dangerous and unfamiliar city and deal with her accomplices. Oh, and outwit an ex-KGB agent and his personal goon squad, too.

It’s going to be an exciting and action-packed Christmas for Jane, whether she wants it or not!

EXCERPT
God, I wish you were here.  Not just because I miss you, although obviously I do.  And not just because this is yet another Christmas we’re not spending together, which is kind of ridiculous when you think about it.  We’ve been dating for three years now, and we still haven’t spent a major holiday together.  That’s just not right.
The biggest reason I wish you were here is that, if you were, I wouldn’t be where I am right now.  Which is on a plane headed to Vienna.
I’m sure you’re asking yourself right now, “Why, Barnaby?  What are you doing flying to Austria?”
Well, I’m flying there to try and find a Russian woman possibly named Natasha who seduced my brother, drugged his drink and left him behind as a patsy for the police to find while she stole jewelry from a princess.  Aren’t you glad you asked?
If you were here, you would have been with us at the hotel, and you would have warned my brother away from Natasha.  By the way, I refuse to believe that’s her actual name.  Does she have a partner named Boris, too?  Does she fight a moose and a squirrel every week?

ABOUT J.J. DiBenedetto
J.J. DiBenedetto is author of the Dream Series and the Jane Barnaby Adventures and lives in Arlington, Virginia with the love of his life and a white cat who rules the roost. His passions are photography, travel, the opera, the New York Giants, and of course writing. Mr. DiBenedetto is devoted to writing books with a sense of mysticism to entertain and perhaps invite his readers to suspend belief in a way they might never have.

EXCERPT
As I stood looking at the house, clouds covered the sun, darkening the bright, beautiful day and casting shadows over Turnberry, giving it a much more sinister appearance. My gaze traveled up to the second floor, and I could have sworn I saw someone staring out from one of the large paned windows, but upon second glance, no one was there. Could it have been my imagination, or had someone been watching me arrive?
My fingers curled around the spinel pendant that hung from my neck, and I stroked the cool, smooth stone, hoping it would help to ease my anxiety.
“That’s a lovely necklace, Miss Olivia,” Gerard said, his gaze fixed on the pendant.
“Thank you. My mother gave it to me.”
“Many people confuse spinel with rubies, but I don’t quite know how that’s possible. No other stone gives off that fire. Did you know it has mystic qualities?”
I nodded, thinking back to how my mother had said it would protect me...

EXCERPT
Jake nodded, but all he could concentrate on were
Penny’s last words before the officer appeared. When
they were alone again, he threw up his hands. “What do
you mean, go back to Phoenix? Why the hell would I
do that?”
She turned her back on him, went to the open door
of the bathroom, and lifted her clothes from the hook.
Beneath the thin, hospital gown her spine was straight,
her movements tight, as if coiled and ready to spring.
“Penny, I know how much she meant to you.” How
much she meant to both of them. He wanted to hold
her, share their loss. “I’m not leaving you.”
Untying the gown, she let it drop around her feet,
and sidestepped out of the heap. She pulled the dark
gray sweater over her head then stepped into black
velvet jeans, refusing to make eye contact or speak as
she sat on the green plastic chair.
This was killing him. The need to hold her, help
her with her pain—his pain—rushed through him.
Haltingly, he made his way to her, touched her head,
and waited while she zipped her boots. “Penny.” She
resisted, but he tipped her chin, forcing her to look up.
“Come on, baby. You don’t have to worry about me
leaving you.”
“You will.”
“No—”
“When I tell you the truth, you will.”

The last thing Bethany needs is more complication. Which means the last person she wants to see is Luke Kalli. They shared a glorious romantic connection before she fled from here. Book Spotlight: DEATH CHANT @VellaCMunn #MFRWauthor

Death Chant
by Vella Munn
with Totally Bound Publishing

BLURB
When her mentor disappears, Winter follows his trail to the Pacific Northwest, where the untamed wilderness is beautiful…and hides deadly secrets.
Anthropologist Winter Barstow knows nothing of her past or ethnic heritage and tells herself it doesn’t matter. Everything changes when Doc, her mentor, sends her an authentic ceremonial wolf mask from Olympic National Forest. The mask calls to her in ways she can’t understand or explain.
Then Doc disappears. Determined to find him and discover the mask’s origin, she travels to the mysterious, awe-inspiring forest where she’s confronted by Native American ranger Jay Raven, who has no love for Doc.
The deeper Winter digs into her mentor’s disappearance, the more alarming things become. She begins to hear a mysterious wolf’s howl…even when no one else does.
Jay warns Winter to leave, but she owes Doc and herself the truth.
And even though it goes against everything he has promised his tribe’s elders, Jay can’t walk away from Winter. Not only has a spirit wolf reached out to her, but he also suspects she’s in terrible danger…and his growing feelings for her are too strong to ignore.
Amazon REVIEW
I really enjoy this author's Native American books. She obviously always does her homework, because her descriptions of the location (in this case Olympic National Park in Washington State) and the tribe (the Hoh) are rich and vivid. The main plot involves a woman anthropologist struggling to find herself and her place in the world, while she discovers her own true nature and the reality of the spirit realm. The concurrent love story between the seeker and the Native park ranger sizzles with intensity and just the right amount of spice. The spiritual elements were my favorite parts. If you enjoy Native adventures and transformational romance tales, blended with a little supernatural, you'll love Vella Munn's books. Recommended read.

EXCERPT
Turning from the mask, she dug through the wrapping for a note, but she found nothing. Suddenly weary, she pulled her cell phone out of the backpack that served as her purse and sank into her recliner. Cell phones were frowned on at the California university where she worked as an administrative support assistant, despite her newly-minted master’s in anthropology. She turned it on then realized she had a message.
It had better be from the man who’d given her equal parts encouragement and lectures about doing something with her life. According to the automated voice, he’d called this morning.
“Where are you?” Doc started. “Winter, this has to be between the two of us. You’re the only one I can trust.”
Trust? What was this about? She shivered.
“I need you up here as soon as possible. There’s—I can hardly bring myself to speak the words. I’m onto something beyond incredible. Something I believe is worth the risk I took. The danger.”
“What are you saying?” she barely got out.
“It’ll change our lives. Place our stamp on everything anthropology stands for. Make Wilheim doubly sorry I got the grant instead of him. Call me. But first take a good long look at it. The mask dates back to early fur trading days.”
She gasped. No, it couldn’t. The elements would have destroyed it.
“Wilheim’s going to give you hell when you tell him you’re bailing on him, but I can’t do this alone. I shouldn’t say you owe me but, if that’s what it takes, I’ll play the card.”
Praying he’d continue, she strained to listen, but all she heard was dead air. Feeling cold, she sat straighter and replayed the message. This time, she concentrated more on his emotion and less on the words. Fought to ignore the electrical charge racing through her. In the nearly ten years she’d known him, he’d never sounded anywhere near this agitated. Doc was a tenured university professor, not some kid opening Christmas presents.
No, he wasn’t Christmas morning excited. More like overwhelmed. Scared. Out of his element.
Scared? Damn it, she didn’t want that for him.
Doc was right. She owed him a great deal. Alone in the world, yearning to belong, to understand, she’d snuck into his lecture hall. Instead of kicking her out, he’d seen through her emotional shields to the hungry-for-knowledge teen she’d been. Once he’d won her trust—no easy task—he’d helped her get several scholarships, a part-time job on campus, a roof over her head. A reason for existing.
She called him, but the phone went right to voice mail. Swayed by his cautions, she didn’t leave a message.
When Doc had been preparing to leave, he’d made sure she had several ways of getting in touch with him, including the number for Potlatch, the employee-only park camp where he had his field office. She punched in the Potlatch number. As she waited for someone to answer, she debated how to best frame her reason for calling. Doc and she worked for the same California university system, albeit far from the same place in the pecking order. She could—
“Potlatch. Ranger Jay Raven speaking.”
She couldn’t remember Doc mentioning anyone named Raven. “I’m trying to reach Dr. Anthony Gilsdorf.”
Silence. That was odd. Had they been disconnected? “Can you hear me?” she asked. “I’m trying—”
“I heard you.”
Thrown off balance by what might be the man’s hostility, she struggled to concentrate. Jay Raven hadn’t said whether or not he knew Doc, but what if he did and the relationship wasn’t friendly? Doc had been disappointed by the local Native Americans’ refusal to help him. Much as she wanted to tell the man about everything Doc had done for her, now wasn’t the time. It never would be.

REVIEW
5.0 out of 5 stars: Loved it!!!
By O. Chambers on March 10, 2016
This was truly a wonderful trilogy. Sylvie and Connor are my newest favorite couple. Ms. Frances blew me away with her wit, humor and erotic sex scenes. This will definitely be a re-read for me. Connor definitely redeemed himself in this last book and I've not quite met a heroine like Sylvie before. Their love story was different than the usual poor girl meets billionaire plot line and romance readers will definitely love this series. Great job Ms. Frances. I wish you had a 4th book in this series. I'm sad that I've finished and its been a while since I read a book that kept be guessing until the very end. Loved it!

EXCERPT
Her jaw dropped.  Connor hadn't left it at threatening calls.  He'd barged into the offices of Bookworm Press and had a verbal and physical altercation with Jameson.  Sylvie couldn't believe what she was reading.  Words led to shoves and their subordinates had to step between them, to stop them from throwing punches at one another.  Sylvie sat shaking her head.  They were fighting over who she was going to work for?  How immature!  She didn't blame Jameson.  She blamed Connor for causing the scene.  This was the same man who couldn't be bothered seeing her Saturday night, who treated her like a discarded toy, a possession he no longer wanted, and now he's threatening to fight people for her?  The whole thing was ridiculous!  Why all this macho posturing?
Saturday he didn't want her.  Now he wants her?  Make up your frigging mind Connor!
She didn't understand men.  If you throw something away, if you leave it on the curb, and someone else picks it up, you have no right to demand they give it back.  You don't want it, but you don't want anyone else to have it either?  Connor couldn't have it both ways.
She didn't belong to him.  He had no say in the matter.  He'd lost that right.
Sylvie decided not to respond to the last email.  Though Jameson was obviously gloating over the fact that Connor was apoplectic about Sylvie leaving his employ, she was afraid that on further reflection he might not want to get in a pissing contest with Connor after all.  Articles on the internet portrayed Connor as a ruthless adversary, a coldhearted corporate cutthroat.  From what she'd been told, he and Jameson had engaged in this stupid competition, this dick-slapping contest, for years.  Maybe it wasn't as big a deal as Sylvie thought it was.  Maybe it was just business as usual for them.
