A Short And Sweet #MFRWauthor INTERVIEW @Sherry_Ewing

Welcome MFRW Author Sherry Ewing.
Sherry Ewing is a self-published author who writes historical and paranormal romance novels to awaken the soul one heart at a time. Her debut historical romance, If My Heart Could See You, hit Amazon’s top ten bestseller list only two days after the paperback release. Always wanting to write a novel but busy raising her children, she finally took the plunge in 2008 and wrote her first Regency. She is a national and local member of Romance Writers of America since 2012 and is currently editing her second novel, For All of Ever, to be released soon.

Why did you decide to write romance novels?
My first experience reading a historical romance was as a teenager. Once I read The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, I was hooked. It was only natural that I would attempt to follow in her footsteps and write one myself someday.

What genre is it?
If My Heart Could See You is an historical romance set in twelfth century England.

Tell us about your latest book.
If My Heart Could See You, takes place at the border between Scotland and England. Berwyck castle has been taken over by the English and a conquering knight, Dristan, the Devil’s Dragon of Blackmore. The heroine, Amiria, is one of the last remaining descendants of clan MacLaren and would rather be in boots, hose, and tunic than stuck in a solar with needle and thread.

Where did the idea come from?
I was actually working on my Regency, One Moment in Time, when the idea came to me and I couldn't wait to get started. I had no idea If My Heart Could See You would inspire me to write the next four books including a work in progress all with secondary characters from this novel!

When did you first think about writing and what prompted you to submit your first manuscript?
I always wanted to write but raising my children was my main priority. It wasn't until 2008 when I was talking with a friend during a rough period in my life that I mentioned I should write that novel that’s been waiting for me to tell its story for years. He asked, “What’s stopping you?” A light bulb went off inside my head and I've been writing ever since.

What is your writing routine once you start a book?
I really have no routine. I write by the seat of my pants but also chapter by chapter. I can’t move forward with the story until I’m satisfied with what I've already written. I get my idea’s at all hours of the day, so when I have them, I have to stop what I’m doing and write it down even if it’s in the middle of the night.

What about your family, do they know not to bother you when you are writing – or are there constant interruptions?
I do my best writing sitting at my mother’s house on NASCAR Sunday’s listening in the background to the roar of the engines. My oldest daughter has all but given up trying to have conversations with me in the evening if I’m writing but she understands. She’s a writer too.

Sherry released If My Heart Could See You, a Mainstream Historical Romance, with Kingsburg Press.

When you're enemies, does love have a fighting chance?
For Amiria of Berwyck, defeat does not come easily as she watches her home and clan being ripped asunder. When the very enemy who has laid siege to her home demands her fealty, she will do whatever it takes to protect her people including a hastily concocted ruse that quickly begins to unravel. All too soon, she starts to question whether she can forgive herself for betraying those she has sworn to protect.

Dristan of Blackmore, champion knight of King Henry II, has a reputation to uphold as the Devil’s Dragon. After his invading army conquers Berwyck castle, he sets out to manage the newly claimed estate by training its knights in the art of proper defense. At first, everything appears as it should be, or is it? Betrayed by those he believed he could trust, he must first set aside his anger before he can make room in his heart for love.

Together they are tied by an unspoken bond. As they begin to rebuild the land and unite their people, forces beyond their control attempt to tear apart their fragile truce and only time will tell if love will forever bring them together.

WHAT REVIEWERS SAY ABOUT THE BOOK
"Heart Pounding Action! ""This is an outstanding first novel by this promising new author. It was very hard to put down and I spent many nights staying up until the wee hours of the morning! What sets this book apart from other historical romance books that I've read is the character development. I felt that I really understood each of the characters, and not just the main ones. I cared what happened to them and found my heart pounding out of fear when something was about to go wrong. I'd love to see another book in which we get to see the two main characters again. This is an author to watch...I truly believe we will see more five star books!""

A Great Read!!! ""I love this read. This is the kind of medieval conquest romance I love. It was filled with adventure, intrigue and hot romance. The h/h were very likeable because the hero was stern, yet very humane, and the heroine was a warrior type woman, but also very feminine and did not over do herself in terms of wanting to behave like a man. She was tough, but practical. I just could not put this book down. I would recommend this book to whomever loves a great medieval conquest romance where not only does the the hero conquers the heart of the heroine, but of the reader's as well.""

EXCERPT
Young knight MacLaren stood with steady feet upon the narrow parapet and looked down into the inner bailey, surveying the destruction and devastation below. Ian, the guardsman ever by the youth’s side, had the same grim expression as his charge.
The constant thunder of a battering ram slamming upon the solid oak door echoed harshly throughout the keep. Afore long, the wooden portal would give way, and with its demolition, all hope would surely depart from the occupants who had fled inside to find safe haven. Too soon, the enemy would be within, causing more lives to be lost in the castle’s defense. The siege had been bloody, lasting more than two fortnights, and, in truth, ’twas surprising the battle endured as long as it had, given the small number of knights available to defend the castle walls.
For nigh unto sixty years, Berwyck Castle had known peace over its land while governed by the last remaining descendants of the Scottish clan MacLaren. The castle and its people, however, had grown accustomed to constant upheaval, being between two kings struggling for power and control over the region. Situated on a cliff high above the raging sea, the castle towered over a prime port for transporting goods into the interior of the country, both north and south. Its location, bordering Scotland and England, had been the cause of many a battle over the centuries, and the fortress had changed liege lords more often than most could remember. With the arrival of the enemy, and the breaching of the curtain wall, ’twas but a matter of time afore England would once again call this castle its own in the name of their king.
Although young in years and slight of frame, the fledgling knight had fought valiantly and bravely, never giving quarter, even whilst the enemy relentlessly pressed forward in determination to win the day. Only at the command of the castle’s laird and chieftain of the clan did the knight order the garrison to fall back into the keep to protect the family within. Moments earlier, all had watched in horror as a sword laid low their liege and his eldest son, though they continued to pray that perchance the leaders had been spared and yet lived.
Blood, of those whom the young MacLaren’s loyal garrison had slain, covered their armor, and the stench assaulted their senses. The cries of the wounded and dying were but a soft whisper on the wind and had all but quieted. MacLaren knew all of Berwyck’s inhabitants were now focused on the newest threat to come, as the castle’s last defense was about to fall. The distinct sound of splintering wood rang out into the chilled air. The warriors atop the battlement grimaced at the forecast of what their future held.
“Ach, ’twill not last much longer now,” Ian predicted.
“Aye Ian, our fate it seems has been sealed,” the young knight said, retrieving the sword that had been carefully laid up against the stone wall. “We shall soon be held accountable for those lives we have taken this day.”
“I do not relish swearing fealty to some English pig,” Ian cursed loudly, “especially as our laird and the dead of our fellow clansmen lay scattered on these cold grounds, awaiting a decent burial.”
The young knight flinched at the mention of their lord.
Ian mumbled his apologies for his loose tongue.
“My sire and brother died in battle . . . in truth they would have had it no other way,” was all young MacLaren said.

For Tyree of the Su, being an assassin isn't simply something she was trained for. It's the sole reason for her existence. A genetically enhanced clone—one of many in Refuge—she's about to learn her secluded lifestyle, and that of all her kind, is under threat by a race capable of neutralizing their special talents to leave them defenseless.

For Zander D'joren, being a diplomat has not only cost him his appearance, but also the love of his life. Scarred, grieving, he must nonetheless continue in his role as co-delegate to the fearsome Tier-vane or risk a conflict that could only end one way.

Now both of them need to keep each other alive and maintain a perilous deception long enough to renegotiate the treaty with the Tier-vane, or throw their people into a war that could wipe out Terrans and Inc-Su alike. But there's more at stake than humanity, whether true or modified. Can the love growing between them save them both? Or merely hasten their destruction?" She can kill with a kiss. But can assassin Tyree also heal one man's grief, and bring peace to a galaxy threatened by war?

WHAT REVIEWERS SAY...
"The book is beautifully written, full of vibrant language and visuals befitting the science fiction genre. And the love story she weaves between Zander and Tyree adds to the overall plot rather than detracting..."
Cate Peace, Going from Nobody to Somebody

"I really enjoyed this sci-fi romance. Pippa Jay has an elaborate style that paints a vivid world around her characters. The setting is interesting with quite a bit working around the central struggle of the main characters. I felt the turmoil between the characters as I could relate to their struggles, even though they live in a fictional future."
Elle Clouse, Goodreads

EXCERPT
Tyree spun on her heels, her long hair lashing around her as she faced the council. ""You want me to be a what?""
Thirteen elderly Inc-Su met her scream of outrage with angry stares. The last syllable echoed around the chamber. If sound could penetrate metaglass, it would have scattered the saurian lowri gliding past the panoramic windows on membranous wings.
Tyree swore G'vorek, one of her former mentors, winked at her, and her irritation eased a fraction at his silent support. Some of the other council members shifted in their hover seats as she cast her gaze over them. Several scowled. Beyond the oval table and the council members, clouds drifted past the window obscuring the slender sky towers of Refuge, a serene background that conflicted with the turmoil suddenly seething in her chest.
""I didn't think the phrase 'co-delegate' would be considered such an offensive term even by you, Tyree,"" Great Mother M'roc said.
Tyree latched her attention onto the matriarch. Unlike the majority of the Inc-Su, M'roc had a generous, matronly figure and caramel-colored skin. Dark braids tinted with gray framed her broad face. There was a saying among the Inc-Su, twisted from the old Terran phrase—as solid as M'roc. Unbending, reliable, consistent, and strong. Good traits in a leader, but it meant once she'd made a decision, nothing could change her mind. If she'd chosen this role for Tyree...
""I'm an assassin, not a frigging diplomat,"" Tyree retorted, but the initial fire of her resistance had guttered. Arguing already felt like a lost cause, but she had to make the point.
Several members of the council tsked at her insolence. G'vorek smiled, deepening the vast collection of wrinkles on his thin, seamed face. Like the other ancients, the charcoal black of his skin had faded to gray, giving him a stone-like appearance.
""Your skills are many, and you are perfect for this role,"" M'roc continued.
""Why?""
""Perhaps you should explain the situation more thoroughly,"" G'vorek said, his voice like layers of slate sliding over one another.
M'roc clasped her gnarled hands and threw her co-councilor an exasperated glare before looking back at Tyree. ""I was about to. The Terrans are once more negotiating their centennial peace treaty with the Tier-vane.""
Tyree waved a hand, dismissing the news as unimportant.
""Perhaps you'd be less indifferent if I told you there have been three assassination attempts on the co-delegates? According to tradition, once the delegates on both sides have been chosen, no others may substitute. It would be taken as a sign of deception. An attempt at trickery.""
""I didn't know that,"" Tyree murmured, but she was more interested in the revelation about the assassination attempts. Whoever had committed those attacks couldn't have been Inc-Su. It would never have taken three tries, and all of them failures. If it had—and it would be a first in their history—was that why she was being assigned? Somehow three Inc-Su had failed, and now they were sending her?

A Romance for Christmas
By Kayelle Allen
A cop at the door on Christmas Eve brings an unexpected gift.
A sweet holiday romance showcasing love, loss, and the spirit of giving.
It's Christmas Eve, and the end of a year in which everything Dara loves has been lost. Everything but her little girl and a fierce determination to survive. When a cop brings Christmas to her door, he brings another gift she never expected to get.

Excerpt
Dara was gaining strength daily, and would finish therapy the first week of January and return to work. Disability paid for the basics - lights, phone, water, trash collection, and she'd never bought anything on credit, refusing to dig herself into a hole she'd never escape once it got started.

She went to the closet and pulled down a box with a ball, crayons, paper, and three books. A friend had brought over a few things as well. This wasn't the grand Christmas Dara had wanted for her daughter, but all the other valuables had been sold. There was nothing left but her wedding ring.

She didn't wear it. Removing it had been part of saying good-bye to Jack.

They said it would help, and it had. Sort of. But not much.

Dara sank into one of the kitchen chairs and put her face in her hands.

Sometime later, when the doorbell rang, she grabbed a paper towel and dried her eyes. The clock over the stove said nine o'clock. Who would be calling at this hour on Christmas Eve? She stuffed the wet towel in her robe pocket on the way to the door.

We're interviewing Nicole Hurley-Moore, MFRW Author.
Nicole has always been a lover of fairy tales, history and romance. She grew up in Melbourne and has traveled extensively, whilst living her life through the romance of books.

Her first passion in life has always been her family, but after studying and achieving her BA Honours in Medieval Literature, she devoted her time to writing historic romance.

She is a full time writer who lives in the Central Highlands of Victoria, Australia with her family, where they live in the peaceful surrounds of a semi-rural town.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
1. How long does it take you to write a book?
It usually takes me somewhere between 1-4 months to write a book.

2. How often do you write?
I try and write every day – hopefully the muse and the flow are with me.

3. Where do your ideas come from?
Ideas seem to spark for anything and everything.

4. How does your husband feel about your writing?
My husband has always supported my writing. He’s my beta reader and biggest fan.

5. Do you ask his advice?
Yes, I ask his advice... and sometimes I even listen ;)

6. What are you working on now?
At the moment I’m finishing off an Australian rural romance. It’s a contemporary romance, which I generally don’t write but it’s been a lot of fun. I live in the middle of gold and sheep country, so I thought why not use it for inspiration.

7. How can readers contact you?
You can find out more about me and my books on my website, and also these sites: blog, facebook, twitter, and goodreads.

8. Tell us about your latest book.
Seizing Heaven is a historical romance which is the follow up to my medieval tale Capturing Bliss. It concentrates on the same family, estate and betrothal ring but is set a century after the first story.

Nicole released Seizing Heaven, a Mainstream Historical Romance, with Jupiter Gardens Press.

Can the Reynard family betrothal ring really choose his true bride? Lord Savaric Reynard is about to
find out.

Lord Savaric Reynard is intent on marrying the widow of Blackstone Manor, that is, until fate and the Reynard betrothal ring get in the way. On his way to meet the widow, Savaric is waylaid by Rosamund, a travelling artist.

He doesn’t believe in magic or the old family legend that the Reynard betrothal ring has the power to choose the right and true bride. Savaric soon discovers he can try and run from Fate, but one way or another it just might catch up with him.

The Reynard legend says that the betrothal ring will choose the true bride... always.

The girl straightened and her eyes narrowed when she addressed him. “Sir, I do not want your coin.”
“Then what do you want? Come, you came to Foxwoods with a purpose.”
“I want nothing from you, Lord Reynard. I was honour bound to return the ring and I need no money for that.” Her voice was even but he saw a spark of indignation spark in her eyes.
“And what do you know of honour?” The words slipped out of Savaric’s mouth before he could stop them.
“Savaric!” Aunt Amice gasped.
“More than you, I wager,” Rosamund said as her hands fisted by her sides. “I have returned your possession and yet you choose to insult me. You may be a fine lord, but I have found better manners and more kindness from the woodcutter I passed on the road.”
She stepped away from the hearth and dropped into curtsy before Amice. “May God grant you blessings, Lady. I thank you for your sweet words but I should leave. ‘Tis better that way.”
“Nay, I will not have it. I will not allow you to go back into the tempest. I insist that you accept our hospitality. You will have dry clothes, a warm bed and food. We are in your debt, child and once Savaric recovers his manners he will be in agreement.” Aunt Amice stood up and took the girl’s hand. “Now, I shall not hear another word about it.”
Savaric saw the hurt in Rosamund’s eyes and another wisp of guilt fanned over him. She made him react and it confused him beyond reason.
“Forgive my words. My Aunt is correct, Rosamund. You are welcome and safe at Foxwoods,” he said before he turned on his heels and strode to the door. He would avoid the girl as best he could. In the morning she would leave and everything would fall back into place.

#MFRWorg Book Spotlight: BONDED @JaymiHanako

MFRW Author Jaymi Hanako released BONDED, an Erotic Sci-Fi/Futuristic Romance, with Loose Id.

BLURB
Jaren Caradoc nearly lost his ship and his life when he fell under the spell of a black widow sorceress, but for the timely intervention of her personal slave. To repay the young woman, he plans to purchase her freedom—only to find she's being auctioned off as a virgin sex slave. Required to consummate the relationship by the auction house, he's soon caught in a web of attraction, guilt, and feelings he thought long-dead.

When Jaren buys Taimi’s contract, she thinks it’s a dream come true. But after their one night together, instead of becoming his lover, she is asked to be an employee – a medic on his spaceship. Nothing more. Can she really pretend her feelings don't exist?

Then Jaren's ex-wife, Lady Ethlinda breaks out of prison, Lorus officials impound Jaren's ship, leaving them stranded during the notorious Festival of Fertility – and vulnerable to Ethlinda's plans for revenge.

EXCERPT
“Do you not desire me, Captain?”
“Of course I do.”
Heat flushed her face and pleasure spiked through her veins, despite the rather reluctant admission. “Then I do not see how this is a difficulty.”
“I feel like I’m taking advantage of you.”
“Please don’t worry about that, Captain. I have long made peace with my fate and what is expected of me. Although”--she managed a smile but needed to swallow hard to moisten her suddenly dry throat before continuing--“my fate seems better than I deserve, now I know it is you who controls it.”
“What do you mean?”
“I desire you, Captain.” She resisted the urge to cross her arms over her chest. To shield her hard nipples, the most obvious sign of her desire for him. Acknowledging her attraction made her feel even more exposed than her lack of clothing did.
He hesitated, then crossed to her side with quick, decisive strides. Jaren reached out and traced the track of tears flowing from her drugged eyes, his touch surprisingly gentle for all the size of his hand. “You’re still crying.”
Taimi shook her head. “Belladonna eyedrops. It’s an old trick of the sex-slave trade, or so I was told. It dilates the pupils to mimic desire but also blurs my vision, and light is painful.” He slipped his fingers under her chin, tilting her head back. She partly closed her eyes to block out the increased brilliance. If only she could look at him... “That’s why I--”
“I see.” He dropped his hand and walked away. She heard the door open, and he called for a servant.
“They can’t hear you.”
“Why not?”
“They would have vacated the area, to give you some privacy to claim your purchase. Unless, of course, you requested otherwise.” The stone floor made it easy to track his movements by the changing sound of his footsteps. She opened her eyes and could just make out Jaren’s blurry form as he stood directly under the light cauldron.
“Maybe I could--”
“Please do not trouble yourself, Captain.”
“But you’re hurting.”
The worry in his deep voice made her wince. Taimi wished she had never mentioned such a minor discomfort, but she had not anticipated he would respond like this. No one had ever shown concern for her before. “It is of no consequence and will wear off soon.” She held out her hand. “Please.”
He returned to her side. “So you can’t see what I look like?”
“I still remember.”
He chuckled. “I could have changed since we last saw each other. Turned old and hideous.”
“I doubt that.” She reached up and touched his cheek. Felt the roughness of his whiskers against her palm, easily over a day’s growth. Surprising. The Captain Caradoc she remembered had always been carefully clean-shaven.
He covered her hand with his. “This still doesn’t feel right.”
“I don’t understand.”
“I’ve never owned anyone before, for one thing. I don’t like it.”
Strange. Lorus marital laws granted him rights over Lady Ethlinda’s estate--including her slaves. “But you have.”
Perhaps he could read what she was thinking. “Not directly. Not like this.”
“This is the way the law works on Lorus, Captain,” she said gently. “You have the right to take your pleasure with my body. I accept that.”
“You should have more of a choice. Especially since it’s your first time.”
“It doesn’t matter. I would have chosen you if I could.” Desire strummed through her veins, giving her the strength she needed to be bold. “I have been taught how to please a man.”

AUTHOR INTERVIEW: Slow Satisfaction with #MFRWauthor @CeciliaTan

Cecilia Tan is "simply one of the most important writers, editors, and innovators in contemporary American erotic literature," according to Susie Bright. Her BDSM romance novel Slow Surrender (Hachette/Forever, 2013) won the RT Reviewers Choice Award in Erotic Romance. In a career that spans 23 years, Tan is the author of over a dozen novels including The Hot Streak, The Prince's Boy, and Daron's Guitar Chronicles, as well as the founder of Circlet Press. Her short stories have appeared in Ms. Magazine, Nerve, Best American Erotica, Asimov's Science Fiction, and tons of other places.

TODAY, Cecilia answers some questions for MFRW. Let's start by asking just how much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?

A: Oh, a ton. Especially since what I'm writing a lot of now are BDSM romances, and I've been able to draw on more than 20 years of ""hands on"" (and other parts, ahem!) experience with bondage and kink.

When did you first think about writing and what prompted you to submit your first manuscript?

A; I was calling myself a writer from when I was four years old and instead of drawing on manila paper like the other kids I would fold mine over into a book and write ""Th End"" on the back. I couldn't spell yet. I wrote for years, took creative writing classes in high school and college, but it wasn't until after college graduation I wrote a story called ""Telepaths Don't Need Safewords"" and felt like I was really on to something. It felt like a full and complete story somehow, when everything else had felt unfinished. It was erotic BDSM science fiction and I could NOT submit it anywhere because it was prohibited by the writers guidelines of literally every publication in the USA. The BDSM publishers and erotica publishers would not accept science fiction, and the science fiction publishers would not accept anything with sex. So I self-published it. That was in 1992.

Tell us about your latest book. What motivated the story?

A: Well, we've come a long way from 1992! Publishers are finally catching up to me. Now all of a sudden they WANT all the BDSM that for the past 20 years they would not touch. So my latest book finishes off a BDSM trilogy for a big New York publisher, the Struck by Lightning series. Slow Surrender, the first book in the trilogy, was motivated by me reading 50 Shades of Grey and thinking, dang, I could write a much better book than that.

Where did the idea come from?

A: The genre demanded a mysterious billionaire, of course. I decided if I was going to give him a secret past or a secret identity it wasn't going to be like anything I'd seen before. Making James secretly famous, a rock star, let me play with two of my favorite things in one, BDSM *and* rock stars!

Do you feel humor is important in fiction and why?

A: Absolutely. I especially wanted my heroine, Karina, to have a sense of humor. She needed to be both smart and likable, and to be the type who isn't passive, instead she pushes back. Part of how she charms James is through her sense of humor and she never loses that throughout the book. Even as she's falling under his ""dom aura"" (as she calls it), she finds she can't take a lot of the play-acting common in BDSM seriously. She wants the real thing, real passion, not playing dress-up.

What is your writing routine once you start a book?

A: Start? You make it sound like I get to start and finish a book and then rest before starting the next book. I'm always writing a book, sometimes two or three simultaneously. My ""routine"" is I write in every spare minute I can scrounge out of every day, every plane flight, every train ride, every hour at the coffee shop before an appointment. I run a small publishing company and I am also the editor of two academic journals about baseball, I teach martial arts part time, and I'm a massage therapist. Yeah, my ""routine"" is just write whenever I can. I sometimes host ""Ass In Chair Day"" at my house on a weekend afternoon. It's like a knitting circle except everyone brings their laptops over and we all write like fiends. It's great.

What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?

A: Hahaha! Relaxing and recharging isn't something I get to do often. When I do, it usually involves either travel or gourmet food, or both. Last year we took a trip to Spain and ate our way across Barcelona and Catalonia. We're hoping to do a cruise next year and maybe a trip to Japan after that. It's great to unplug during those trips: almost no email or Internet, and no writing. But you never stop being a writer. Every trip I take ends up providing a setting for a scene or a future book!"

EXCERPT
James's eyes were serious, even as his face and body were relaxed and languid post-orgasm. “Did I convince you to give me another chance?”
I considered. “You at least earned the chance to tell me what I don’t know.”
He took my hand in his, like he had so many times before. This time he kissed my fingertips, his eyes closing as he did. “I have a lot to tell you. More than any single interrogation might reveal.”
I squeezed his hand. “I shouldn’t have to interrogate you for the answers.”
He sucked in a breath. “No. Of course you shouldn’t. There’s so much I need to tell you if you’re really going to get to know me.” He reached up and traced the curve of my cheek with his fingertip. “Yet I feel like you know me better than anyone.”
“I do know you,” I said. “I just don’t know the facts about you.”
His gaze shied away from mine. “Many of the facts are sordid.”
“Says the man who put a six-inch dildo into me and walked me around the Metropolitan Museum of Art.”
“I mean much more sordid than that.” Now his face had completely clouded over.
“I want to know, James. I need to know. I have a right to, if we’re going to be together.”
He nodded, though his eyes were closed. “I know. I agree. That still doesn’t make it easy for me to open up.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Except during sex.”
“As you well know. Were you serious about what you said before? I would sincerely give you a piece of my past for every time you give me…” He kissed my fingertips again. “Anything. Sex. Your body. Your submission.”
Even though we’d just had sex, I felt a thrill go through my loins. “I wasn’t suggesting it lightly.”
“I want to be sure. Sometimes we say things in the heat of passion that seem less than wise afterward.”
“But sometimes we get inspired.” This could be the perfect solution, I realized. “I know the time you’re the most open is when we have sex. That’s the time your answers will be the best. Of course, if we do this, I could still revoke my forgiveness at any time.”
“Of course. Just as you can revoke your consent at any time. I understand, Karina. It’s the Thousand and One Nights, only this time I’m Scheherazade, telling the stories.”
I touched his face with my fingers, feeling like a weight was slowly lifting from my back. Maybe we were going to make this work after all. The fact that he was willing to try so hard made a huge difference in how I felt. And I wanted him.

A Short and Sweet Interview with #MFRWauthor @JenBritt

Author Jennifer Britt gives a short interview with MFRW. Ain't she sweet?
After graduating from law school, Jennifer Britt worked for a leading tax publication as a legal editor. She then moved to an accounting firm as an associate director and legal editor. While her day job keeps her busy, Jennifer has managed to find time to write and, most nights, she can be found in front of her laptop writing her next contemporary romance novel.

Why did you decide to write romance novels?
It's what I enjoy When I'm looking for a book to read or a movie to watch, I gravitate toward romance. I love happy endings.

When did you first think about writing and what prompted you to submit your first ms?
For years, I had different story ideas in my head, but I didn't do anything with them. One day, I was reading a book and I told my husband that I was going to try to write one. That was about four years ago. It was a romantic suspense and it's still hidden away on my hard drive. After I completed a couple of other manuscripts, my husband encouraged me to submit. He's always been very supportive of my writing.

What kind of research do you do for a book?
It depends on the story. I love to research different places, but with my current series, the town is fictional. Most of my research is done on the Internet, but I've also interviewed people if I need information about a particular area of expertise.

Tell us about your latest book. What motivated the story?
Finding the Dream is the second book in my Lincoln Falls series. Jessica James is an out of work Broadway actress who is forced to move back home with her parents in Lincoln Falls. She meets their neighbor and sparks fly.

The idea for the story came to me one Easter. I was thinking about the people behind those Easter Bunny costumes in the malls and I started playing the what if game. An out of work Broadway actress came easy to me because I once had dreams of being on stage. While in college, I decided I didn't want to move to New York and struggle so I became a lawyer instead. I wish I could say I had the rest of the story planned out, but I didn't. I knew I wanted a little girl in the story and Sophie was created. Then Eric was developed and I went from there.

What is your writing routine once you start a book?
I don't have a set routine. I tend to write anywhere I can. Dialogue comes easy to me so my first draft tends to be all dialogue and then I go back and layer in all the details.

What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?
I love to watch TV. When I want to unwind, I catch up on my Spanish novelas.

Who are some of your other favorite authors to read?
Nora Roberts, Rachel Gibson, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Carly Phillips

"Great," Jessica said half-heartedly. She hung up and turned to Eric. ""Everything okay?""
""Just fabulous. My daughter's convinced she's getting a chocolate turtle. I can't seem to convince her otherwise.""
""You might be surprised.""
""I doubt it. Is the tow truck coming?""
""Yes, but it's going to be thirty minutes.""
""Sophie and I will wait with you. Then we can give you a ride home.""
""I'm fine. I'm going to have my mother pick me up. So you can head on home.""
He snorted. ""My mother raised me better than that. You might not be one of my favorite people, but I'm not going to leave you on this secluded road where some psycho can come along and do God knows what.""
Funny. She'd thought the same thing before she'd realized he was the one who'd pulled in behind her. ""No one is going to mess with me. Nothing ever happens around here.""
""I'm not leaving.""
""Yes, you are. I bet Sophie is hungry. Aren't you?"" she shouted to Sophie.
""I'm starving,"" Sophie said.
""You're dragging my daughter into this. You dislike me that much that you'd rather sit out here by yourself and take your chances.""
""I don't dislike you.""
""You don't?""
""Okay, maybe a smidgeon,"" she said, holding her thumb and index finger about a half inch apart.
""You're not one of my favorite people either, but I'm still not leaving. That's the end of it.""

Quick and Quirky Questions for #MFRWauthor Ava Martel

Author Ava Martell gets just a little bit Quick & Quirky with MFRW.
Ava Martell was born on Friday the 13th, but always believed in making her own luck and writing her own story. She's a firm believer that love really does conquer all, but sometimes you have to take the long way around to get there.
Readers can connect with her on facebook or amazon.

If money were not an object, where would you most like to live?
The mountains. A quiet cabin surrounded by pine trees and snow is pretty much my dream.

If you were stranded on a tropical island, who would it be with?
My husband. He's the funniest person I know so we'd never be bored, and he can build just about anything, so he'd be able to get us off the island eventually!

What is your secret guilty pleasure?
The Food Network. It doesn't matter if I even like what they're cooking on the show, I just love watching cooking shows.

Ebook or paperback?
Like my main character, I travel light so ebooks are definitely my choice. Nothing can beat being able to carry an entire library in my purse.

City life or country life?
I grew up in small towns in New England before moving to Austin, TX a few years ago. I love the city, but I'm a small town girl at heart. I love the intimacy of getting to know the whole town.

If you were a tool, what would people use you to do?
The kitchen is the center of my house, so if I was a tool, I'd be a teakettle. Summer or winter, I love sitting down with a pot of tea and a good friend or a good book. I have the best conversations over tea!

What song would best describe your life?
""The Long Way Around"" by the Dixie Chicks. I've lived a lot of places and tried and failed at a lot of different endeavors over the years. It took me some time, but I finally feel like I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be.

Tell us about your newest book.
First Man  is a Mainstream New Adult Romance.

Throw out the rules. Let the sparks fly. And pray for a happily ever after. . .

Adam Edwards drifts in the wide world, searching for his next adventure. When his journey around the globe brings him to America he finds a love he never expects and a loss he can't endure.

Ember Pierson is 18 and counting down the days until graduation frees her from small town life. Everything changes when Adam rolls into town and takes a job teaching high school English, and Ember hatches a plan. . .

Here's a REVIEW of Ava's FIRST MAN
Mandy at Amazon - I knew nothing going into this book except for the fact that there was a teacher/student dynamic. This book was so much more than that. It's a fast-paced story about love, loss and trying to find your home. It was such a beautiful story that made me cry when I least expected it. It's hard to write a review for this because I don't want to give any of the story away so all I will say is that I loved this book, it was beautiful and amazing and I highly recommend it!

Enjoy an EXCERPT!
My name is Ember. He always liked my name.
When I knew him as Mr. Edwards, he’d always put a curious emphasis on the first syllable, drawing out the second like a breath. When I knew him as Adam, he whispered my name against my skin, “Ember Ember Ember” hidden in sighs and moans.
That was not the expected reaction, I know. If I wasn’t a vixen, I was supposed to be an innocent. I was supposed to sit in court and cry and say, “Your Honor, I didn’t want to sleep with my English professor, but he said he’d fail me if I didn’t.” I was supposed to cry and ask my mother and father for forgiveness. I was supposed to be sorry.
I was not sorry. Not then, and especially not now.
I was sorry that we were caught and that he left town because he felt like a criminal who had ruined me. I was sorry that I spent a year of my life thinking he regretted knowing me, because I never regretted a moment with him.
After everything blew up in our faces, my parents sent me to therapy because I needed to find some way to get over my “horrible ordeal.” My therapist wore suffocating perfume and spoke in a little-girl voice that infuriated me. She insisted that I keep a journal to “work through my misplaced anger.”
That’s what everyone thought, that I was a stupid little girl who let myself be taken advantage of. I was a victim, lashing out at the people that had saved me from the big, bad English teacher. None of them would believe that I’d been the one pursuing him from the beginning. Good girls didn’t do things like that.
No one told me that I had to be a good girl forever.

What Reviewers Are Saying...
Samantha Chase (Reviewer): "I loved this story, There is nothing better then reading about finding love all over again. The characters are older then most stories out there and this makes the book so much better. I enjoyed this book so much and I was able to read it in one sitting. This was the first story i have read from Tina and I for one can't wait to pick up her next work...."

Sam Destiny (Reviewer): This was a sweet story and an easy read. I am actually a fan of Daniel because he seems to be a truly amazing man. You need distraction? Something that you can drown in and yet won't need weeks to get through This book absolutely is it! The steam is well written and amazing, the love scenes ultimately cute. Nice read, really.

EXCERPT
“Daniel, if you’re in the bathroom come out this minute.”
The entrance opened, and he stood in the doorway.
Problem, he wore only a towel.
Awe, shit...she didn’t need to see his bare chest covered in crisp dark hair, the sculptured muscles of his arms and shoulders, developed pecs, and thick thighs.
Damn, how was she supposed to resist such temptation?
Desire added with the anxiety she’d already experienced on her drive here, lit her anger. “Why the hell didn’t you answer your phone? I’ve been calling and texting you for the last two hours.”
A confused frown passed over his handsome face. Instead of responding, he stepped to the bedside table. He lifted his cell phone and clicked a few buttons.
Unable to contain her impatience, Karen stalked forward.
He glanced up when she grew closer and showed her the phone. “I don’t understand it. I don’t show receiving any messages or calls. The signals must have gotten lost because of the storm.”
She’d suspected as much. Still, she refused to let him off the hook because he could’ve contacted her before he left town. “You should’ve called me. But no...”
Having endured his inability to communicate for months now, she stabbed her finger through the air at him. “You never call. You always expect me to phone you. Well, I’ve had it.”
The distance closed between them and she stood inches from him. Her fingertip tapped his chest. Static electricity sparked between them and her fist unfolded. She stumbled backward.
“Whoa.” Daniel caught her around the waist with one hand and held her close. His phone landed on the bed before he circled his other arm around her. His strong grip held her steady and didn’t allow her to step away. “You’re right. I guess I’m just use to...”
“Don’t say it. I’ve heard it too many times. Sharon might have resented the interruptions but I’m not her. I’m never in any type of meeting that you could possibly disrupt.” Karen spread her hands over his chest and worked to maintain a smidgen of distance. Nevertheless with him so near, his warmth surrounding her in a seductive cocoon, she had to fight the urge to melt against him.
“Yes, but if I called you whenever I wanted we’d never get off the phone.” The husky tone of his voice pulled her gaze upward.

BOOK SPOTLIGHT: Simple Misunderstanding by Kathryn Blake @KRBwrites #MFRWauthor

MFRW Author Kathryn R. Blake released A Simple Misunderstanding, an Erotica Novel with Blushing Books/Lazy Day Publishing. Spousal spankings in Corbin's Bend... She thought her husband was the man of her dreams, until he became the man of her nightmares.

Elly Benson struggled to be the properly submissive wife her husband desired.  She tried to do everything he asked of her, until he convinced her she could never be the perfect woman he expected and demanded by nearly killing her.

As a vet, Jerry Douglas recognized signs of abuse when he saw them.  Elly Benson, however, was a married and consenting adult who insisted all her bruises and welts were nothing more than a simple misunderstanding between her and her husband, until the day Arthur Benson took his authority and discipline one-step too far,

What an Amazon Reader Reviewer Said...
I absolutely loved this book!! This is the 7th in the series but stands alone quite nicely. Frankly, you will be sorry if you miss this one! There is a wonderful plot, no spoilers here, that handles a sensitive subject very well. Elly is such a strong woman although she doesn't think so but with Jerry's help she discovers she can be strong enough to rid herself of her troubles and find love along the way. This is written extremely well and I had to read it in one sitting to get to the best ending ever! Very well done!! - SH

EXCERPT
Jerry stepped over to open the park gate for Elly, but she gave her head a single shake. “I can’t stay. I only came to return your coat. Thank you.”
Accepting his leather jacket, he placed a staying hand on her arm. “Were you punished last night because you had this?”
“No.” Her emerald green eyes held his gaze, but he sensed there was more to the story than she was saying, so he raised one eyebrow and waited.
With a sigh of defeat, she added, “I was punished for not being properly dressed yesterday. And, given the unpredictability of Colorado autumns, I should’ve known better, as you intimated yourself.”
Though she spoke to him without any pretense of hesitancy or deference today, he didn’t particularly care for what she said. “Were you late getting home?”
A touch of green fire lit her eyes as she stared at him. “What do you think?”
“I think you’re angry enough you’d like to take your frustration out on someone, but you’re not sure how, or whom to attack.”
She turned away at his words. “I need to go.”
“How long before you’re expected back, Eleanor?”
Her back stiffened with displeasure, but she didn’t yank free of his gentle restraint. “Five minutes.”
“Then stay with me for one more minute.” When she didn’t take off running, he asked, “Do you object to me calling you by your first name?”
“No.”
“Then why did you stiffen?”
She briefly met his gaze. “I prefer to be called Elly.”
Smiling, he bent his head toward her. “Good to know, Elly. So, tell me. Did your husband restrain you last night?”
Her head snapped up, and she glared at him through eyes alight with unshed tears. “So what if he did? That doesn’t mean I’m not submissive to him.”
Jerry promptly released her arm. “Whoa. I never said or implied you weren’t.”
“Well, isn’t that what everyone else thinks? I’m such a lousy wife and incompetent submissive, my husband needs to restrain me during my chastisements?”
“No, Elly. No one thinks that.”
“Why not? It’s true. Thank you anyway for your concern, but I need to leave.”

ABOUT Kathryn R. Blake
A Simple Misunderstanding is Kathryn R. Blake's fourth novel with Blushing Books, and third spanking romance where Domestic Discipline is primary to the plot.  Although Kathryn is new to the spanking romance market, she is not new to stories where the hero spanks the heroine.  In fact, most of her novels have some sort of spanking in them.  However, even in Kathryn's novels where the hero firmly believes in using spanking as a deterrent, he has no desire to cause the heroine injury and takes no delight in hurting the woman of his heart.

#MFRWauthor BOOK SPOTLIGHT: Zane's Choice @MardiMaxwellRom

Mardi released Zane's Choice (The Doms of Club Mystique, book 4), an Erotic Romance with Siren Publishing.

Beautiful, curvy, Ravyn Templeton saw Zane Ramsey in a BDSM club in Houston three years ago. He’s haunted her dreams ever since.
Zane is an Assistant District Attorney and co-owner of Club Mystique, the BDSM club he and his brothers built on their Texas ranch. When Ravyn’s ex-husband is arrested for trying to have her killed the case is assigned to Zane.

The moment Zane meets Ravyn he wants her and even though he knows having an affair with her will jeopardize his career he can’t resist her. When Ravyn’s ex-husband accuses her of laundering money for a drug cartel, and she refuses to answer Zane’s questions he leaves her.

Fate steps in and brings them together again. Zane has the power to save Ravyn but only if he loves her enough to fight for her.

REVIEWS
The Chronic Romantic: I love erotic suspense, and Mardi Maxwell's Dom's Of Club Mystique series never disappoints! I enjoyed this book immensely. The writing is clean and inventive and the sex is HOT (if you are not a fan of menages or D/s, then this is not the book for you). I have enjoyed the entire series and look forward to Zane's story.

Margie H (Amazon): This is book #3 in Mardi Maxwell's Doms of Club Mystique series. This author has written a hot and sexy story with lots of ""can't stop reading"" intrigue. The main characters have lots of chemistry going for them. Luc and Logan Ramsey aren't ready to settle down but Cassie explodes into their lives and they just can't resist. The story also includes lots of appearances from the main characters from the previous books. This is one of the requirements I have for reading a series and totally enjoying it.

EXCERPT
Zane cursed, then stalked toward her. He clenched his fist in the hair at her nape then curved her into him until their noses were almost touching.
Ravyn looked into his angry eyes and shivered. “Let go, Zane.”
“You need to leave, Ravyn. Now.”
“No. I’m hiding from the press and everyone else who wants to put me behind bars—people like you.”
“Dammit, Ravyn. I told you I would protect you.”
“No you didn’t. You said you would get me the best deal you could if I would turn state’s evidence.” She tried to move away from him and he tightened his hand and pulled her head farther back while curving her pelvis against his. His erection pressed into her belly and she breathed a swift sigh of relief at the proof that he still wanted her.
“I told you from the beginning if you were guilty I wouldn’t lie for you,” Zane said, the words gritted out between clenched teeth.
“Then you shouldn’t have fucked me.” Ravyn reached up and tried to pry his fingers from her hair. “Let go, Zane.”
“This time you’ve gone too far. Be still or I’ll beat your ass.”
“You can’t. You’re the one who set the limits of our relationship.” She gave up trying to pry his hand loose. “You said fucking only. Nothing else.”
“Tell me the truth then—tell me what you know.”
“Nothing. I don’t know anything.”
“You lie to me and then you question why I won’t—” He pulled her head back until the tendons in her neck stood out. “Just don’t lie to me again. It really pisses me off.”
Ravyn used her peripheral vision to look to her right. Everyone’s attention was focused on them. “Zane, let go. Everyone’s watching.”
“Don’t mind us,” Cade said. “You’d be surprised how often something like this happens around here lately.”
Zane shot a dirty look toward the room’s occupants then focused on her again. “Everyone out.”
A moment later Cade picked Addison up then settled in the chair behind his desk and smiled. Addison grinned at Zane then snuggled into Cade, letting him know they were staying.
“We may have some information you might be interested in knowing, little brother,” Cade said as he smoothed his hand down the long length of Addison’s braid.
Ravyn glanced at the wall behind Cade’s desk and saw a large portrait of him and Addison. In it Addison was over Cade’s shoulder. One of her hands grasped the waistband of his leather pants as she looked down at the camera with a huge smile on her beautiful face. Cade’s large hand nearly covered her entire bottom as he held her in place and looked over his shoulder at someone below them. The dark look of passion on their faces was mesmerizing.
That was the way she wanted to be loved. Passionately, as if her death would totally destroy the man who loved her. The sound of Thor’s voice drew her attention away from the portrait and back to the present. He pointed at a chair.
“Better get comfortable, Ravyn. This is going to take a while,” Thor said.
A soft growl of anger emanated from Zane as he released her hair. She smiled and heard him growl again. Knowing he was pissed off made her feel better about their situation.
Ravyn slid into the chair Thor had vacated then crossed her long, slender legs. The skirt of her wrap dress slid apart and she saw Zane’s eyes trace up her legs to her crotch before he shrugged out of his suit jacket then loosened his tie and jerked it away.

Interview
1. How long have you been writing?
ANSWER: I've written my entire life and yes, I've always dreamed of being a writer. My greatest day was when one of my stories was accepted for publication.

2. How many books have you written?
ANSWER: It took me a long time to actually write a book start to finish. All told, I've probably written around 25 stories (varying lengths). At this time, 22 are published.

3. List two authors who have influenced you.
ANSWER: James Rollins and Cherise Sinclair.

4. What book has been easiest to write?
ANSWER: Soulless. I imagined this story for a couple years before sitting down and typing the rough draft out in all of one day.

5. What book has been hardest to write?
ANSWER: Any of my stories with a darker edge. I thoroughly enjoyed writing them, but they tapped into parts of me that don't *seem* like me. When I write darker themed/scenes in stories, I have to ignore that part of me that wants to go, ""ooh, that's not so nice, or 'appropriate'.""

6. What book has been the most fun to write?
ANSWER: Emmy's Wish. It was my first time writing fantasy. The story involves Christmas and elves and wishes come true. I love that it's short and sweet but oh, so sexy!

7. What is important to you about writing?
ANSWER: It keeps me sane. Seriously. Writing has always been cathartic for me. If I didn't put the proverbial pen to paper, I would be an emotional and mental wreck.

MFRW Author Ayla Ruse released Jolly Rogered, an Erotic Historical Romance with Totally Bound in July 2014.

El Angel’s latest capture is the one person whose ransom will give him an edge. He must deliver Lady Elise untouched in order to have his revenge, but she is desire untapped, and more than ready for the taking. His every effort to frighten and push her away only excites her and tests his limits of control.

EXCERPT
“It is so blasted hot,” Lady Elise Clifton complained. She’d stripped down to her chemise and was pacing the cramped cabin, praying for a cool wind to slip through the tiny porthole.
“You could go up on deck, you know,” stated her companion, Brianna. “There’s wind there.”
“I know, but I have to make sure I’m packed. You go on ahead if you want.”
“I might. I’ve watched you go through this bag every day for the past week.” Brianna upended the cloth satchel and repacked it, naming each item as she did so. “Look, you have a pair of slippers, a day dress, a corset with your money sewn in, the breeches and shirt I stole from my brother for you, a brush and ribbons. Same as yesterday. Same as the day before. Nothing’s changed. Besides, if we are attacked, I’m sure the pirates won’t be gentleman like and ask for your luggage.”
“You’re probably right, but if I’m to go through with this—”
“If we’re attacked, that is.”
“Yes, if we’re attacked, then I want to be ready. I’ll not begin my new life empty handed and shy.”
“Like there ever was a shy bone in your body,” Brianna mumbled.
Elise heard and chuckled. “You know me well. And you do know what you’re to do if a pirate comes for us, right?”
“Do exactly what he says.”
“You sure you’ll be all right?”
“Elise, I’m here, aren’t I? I could have stayed in London, but I’m the one you’ve confided in all these past months. I couldn’t let you do this alone.”
Brianna’s brother, Elise had discovered several months ago, was a sailor in the British Navy, and he’d often write to Brianna with tales of the pirates they’d captured or those who had run away. When Elise’s father had determined she move to the colonies, Elise had paid closer attention and latched onto the tales, yearning to live the life of a pirate, a life full of independence.
“I’m this close,” she said, pinching her fingers nearly together, “to having the freedom I want, Brianna.”
“Well, your idea of freedom and mine are two different things. I still say we should have switched places. You could’ve been me and I would’ve assumed your identity. No one on this ship knew us when we boarded and surely no one will know us in the colonies.”
“And you know I wanted to, but my uncle would recognize the falseness in an instant. I told you that my father sent him a portrait of me barely a year past.”
Boom!
Brianna screamed. “What was that?”
Elise turned to the sound and rushed to the window. “Damn, I can’t see from here. It sounded like a cannon.”
Another shot rang out and Elise spun around. “I bet we’re being attacked,” she said excitedly. “It’s time.”
Elise caught Brianna’s wide-eyed stare and laughed. “Don’t look so aghast. You know this has been my dream for months. With any luck, by nightfall I’ll be onboard the pirate’s ship and, if things continue my way, I’ll be debauched, lying in the captain’s bed and free from marriage.”
“You’re crazy, you know that,” Brianna said, a tremor in her voice. “Remember my brother writing about how violent pirates can be? And smelly? And ugly? You could wind up dead in the pirate’s bed.”

Life as a Writer
photo romcmas200_zpsaa2ba60f.jpgI love telling the stories inside me and think I would burst if I had to keep them all inside. There are so many to tell! When a reader responds with laughter, tears, enjoyment -- it gives me such a great jolt of energy that I immediately want to run out and write more. I love creating an honest portrayal of characters, escape, adventure, fun, excitement, passion and something new. In fact, I wrote a mission statement for myself as a writer that embodies this. My mission is to give readers a great roller coaster ride of a story that brings excitement, fun, and takes them in directions they didn't expect.
