- 4 Stars RT Book Reviews on A Too Convenient Marriage
EXCERPT: London—May 1818
'Marry you?' Helena Gammon sat back from Justin Connor, her ungloved hand stilling on his chest beneath his shirt. A horse snorted from somewhere outside his chaise where it sat parked in a long row of conveyances in front of Vauxhall Gardens.
'I'm quite serious. We get on well together, especially at night,' Justin murmured against the buxom little widow's neck. 'Soon, I'll have the resources to establish myself in the wine trade. I'll need a wife who can manage as well in my business as in my bed.'
She shifted out of his embrace and laid her hands in her lap as though they were at tea. 'There are other matters to consider.'
Her lack of enthusiasm wasn't how he'd imagined this proposal unfolding.
'Such as?' Justin leaned back against the squabs, sure he wasn't going to like what he was about to hear.
'You aren't likely to make a go of it.' She shrugged as though his failure was predetermined. 'Not after what happened with the last one.'
'The storm sank the ship.' And my business. He pulled his gaping shirt closed. He thought everyone understood that little fact. Apparently he was wrong. 'There was nothing I or anyone could have done to prevent it.'
Despite months of careful planning, researching, investing, hiring the most capable captain and the sturdiest ship, his first foray into business had dropped to the bottom of the English Channel, taking with it a considerable amount of his money. He hated ships.
'Even if you did manage to make a go of it, I'm tired of being some unpaid servant to my husband's ventures. I worked myself to the bone with Mr Gammon. Now I want to be free of such concerns.' She tugged her bodice up higher over her ample breasts. 'Mr Preston asked me to marry him this morning and I accepted.'
'You did what?' He hadn't realised the old furrier was sniffing around the widow, much less falling on his knees in front of her in infatuation.
'He's rich and has people to take care of his business for him.'
'He's well over sixty and not likely to keep you amused in the evenings.'
'That's why I'm here.' She laid her hand over the open flap of his breeches. 'I thought we could continue.'
He caught her fingers. 'After a year, you should know I won't dally with another man's wife, or help a woman break her marriage vows.'
She pulled back her hand. 'When did you become so serious about anything except Mr Rathbone's business?'
'I tend to be serious when there's the possibility of violence,' Justin growled, seeing Helena's true colours for the first time and despising them. He'd thought their convenient arrangement was based on some measure of respect and affability. He'd been mistaken.

#Historical Romance Book Spotlight: Caroline and the Captain @Maggi_Andersen #MFRWauthor
Caroline and the Captain
Historical Romance
Captain Nicholas Bonham of Wellington’s Peninsular Regiment, the 52nd Light Infantry, returns from fighting the Napoleonic wars to see his brother laid to rest. A skilled rider, George’s death remains a mystery, as does the parlous state of his finances. Debenham Park must be sold unless Nicholas can find a swift solution.
George’s former fiancée, Miss Caroline Mirringham, harbors a secret. She has trusted no man except her father and George, and now considers her future to be a desolate one. When her father proposes that Caroline marry Nicholas, she is filled with dread. The captain is nothing like his amiable brother. He looks altogether too strong and harsh. He would demand far more from her than she could give.
Freedom. That’s all Lady Honor Baxendale wants—for her sisters and for herself. Honor has a bold plan to become financially independent, using a skill she learned at her father’s knee. She seeks the help of a solicitor and is pleased with her choice…as long as she can resist the solicitor himself.
EXCERPT
"With a glance at the overcast sky, Nicholas stood with her on the bank before an expanse of rippling grey water, observing the water birds swimming and diving into the murky depths. The breeze smelled of mud and rotting vegetation. Why were they here? If they were to tackle this apparently thorny subject, they could have done it in relative comfort in the drawing room.
He grew annoyed. Something must be done to stir this difficult lady into revealing more of herself. He cleared his throat.
Without warning, the skies opened. In a few minutes, they’d be drenched to the skin.
“Come this way,” Miss Mirrington called, a blurred figure in the misty rain, running ahead of him. Farther along the shore, a marble columned gazebo offered some shelter. She was quite fleet of foot, picking up her skirts and showing a good deal of slim calf, her bonnet dangling by its ribbon. Wishing himself elsewhere, Nicholas loped along beside her.
They ducked into the shelter of the arched roof, and stood gazing at each other. Nicholas took out his handkerchief and offered the cambric square to her.
She declined his offer with a shake of her head, pushing back a wet lock of hair and settling her bonnet on her head, the soggy daisies adorning it now drooping sadly.
Nicholas wiped the rain from his face, congratulating himself on his remarkable restraint in resisting the temptation to say he told her so. He should be angered by this ridiculous display of bad manners, but was distracted by the thin muslin of her gown clinging to her body, exposing the jutting shape of her full breasts. His gaze roamed to where the damp dress pressed against her slim thighs outlining an enticing curve at the base of her stomach. His body tightened and he looked away disconcerted. With all that had happened, he hadn’t even thought about sex for far too long.
“You’ll catch cold.” Unsettled by his inappropriate thoughts, he shrugged out of his coat and placed it around her shoulders, wondering if she’d reject this gesture also.
“Thank you.” She was so slender she almost wrapped his coat around herself twice. He regretted losing that beguiling view.
“I suppose you know why I’ve come,” he said, determined to get to the point before they both came down with pneumonia.
Her damp, dark-blonde hair framed a heart-shaped face, and a pair of intelligent grey eyes studied him. “Father did mention it.”
“Then we should talk about it, don’t you think?”
“I expect so,” she said without a shred of enthusiasm.
“First, there is something I need to ask you,” Nicholas said.

Mandy Prescott misstepped on the tan carpet of the law office’s hallway almost causing her to stumble. Ty Martin stood in the conference room doorway, looking like he’d strode out of an Old West wanted poster, given his six-foot height, the stubble shadowing his firm jaw, and the black suit jacket outlining his broad shoulders. Dark eyes peered at her from under the brim of a Stetson pulled low enough for the back of his ebony-colored hair to feather the crisp white collar of his shirt. Neater than an outlaw, maybe, but no less threatening.ABOUT THE AUTHOR
“I didn’t know Ty would be here, did you, Mandy?” her mother whispered, leaning closer as they walked and bringing a whiff of Chanel No. 5 with her movement.
Her heart pounded hard against her ribs, like it wanted out.
“No.”
Brian Solomon, the family attorney, had said only the main beneficiaries of her grandfather’s will would be in attendance. To her that had meant family. But there was Ty, leaning against the doorjamb with arms crossed and an annoying smile gracing a face she’d once found attractive.
Devils were always tempting.

REVIEW - Marisa Slusarcyk – Hide the Matches
Wayward Soul was an amazing read that literally had me glued to it from the first page. It is a stand-alone sequel to Desert Son, meaning that while it is a continuation, you don't need to read Desert Son in order to feel like you have the whole picture. This story is amazing as it deals with love, life, loss, murder, psycho's, reincarnation and OBE (out of body experiences) as well as out of body travel. Sounds like a lot but Maynard has done a wonderful job of explaining things enough to give you goosebumps while not bogging you down with more than the story needs. Not a single boring sentence in this book which is ridiculously hard to come by! If you have ever had vivid dreams and woke up only to think about how real it felt then this book is for you. Without spoiling it, I will say that the twist at the end is enough to raise goosebumps and leave you longing for more.
Glenn is the author of “Strapped Into An American Dream” which details his one-year journey through the 48 continental states, Canada and Mexico in an RV. He was a travel correspondent for three newspapers during his travels. He is also the author of “Desert Son”, which is a fiction book that involves out-of-body experiences, past-life-regression hypnosis, and reincarnation, and the sequel, Wayward Soul. He is currently working on book three of this trilogy.

EXCERPT
When Carter and Brenda ran to the front door, they saw Angie lying in the middle of the street like a limp ragdoll. Brenda put her hands on top of her head and screamed. Carter ran past her and out into the street to Angie’s body, and Brenda soon appeared byABOUT Glenn Maynard
his side. She grabbed Angie’s wrist and checked for a pulse.
“Nothing!” she screamed.
“Maybe you’ll have better luck.” She jumped up to get out of his way, waving her hand
quickly so that Carter would hurry.
“I’ve never done this before,” Carter said. “I’ve never had to. I don’t know what to look for!”
Carter watched as Brenda bolted to the next house, pounding on the door to get help. The smell of brakes permeated the air.
“Call 911,” she demanded as the door opened. “There’s been an accident and we need an ambulance right away!”
Carter’s world slowed to a crawl as society’s noise followed suit. Slow motion ensued as Carter watched Angie’s spirit drift skyward, looking down on Carter, who could only watch her life slipping away on a thin string. There was nothing that he could do, but he was familiar with this territory. Up and away she drifted.
Carter noticed that the movement was intermittent, as if there was something pulling her from a direct and impactful ascent from what seemed to be an untimely death.
Carter looked up at Angie and felt a connection. It seemed to
him that he had a similar flight path, and could relate to her. He
knew that she took with her a message that he and Brenda so
desperately needed. That look on her face had twisted even her
wrinkles. She had been holding their hands and must have sensed
something terrible. Was it a message for them? Why did she only look at
Brenda when she went into convulsions? Do they now have to live life
looking over their shoulders?
Brenda returned to Carter, who was kneeling next to the body
of Angie and intently peering up at her spirit. “What’s going on
here, Carter? What do you see?”
Carter did not answer right away, but he did hear Brenda. He was mesmerized, yet blown away that he could see Angie, trapped in an out-of-body experience. He believed that because he had lived through an out-of-body experience himself, he could now
become part of others.

- Author Iris Blobel walks a fine line between romance and women's fiction, and this tale of love, loss, and growth touches both sides of that fence.
- A pleasant story that I recommend with a cup of tea!

EXCERPT
“You escaped. Perhaps I should put you in the dungeon.” Noeh’s voice was low and threatening. The resulting shiver that skated across her arms wasn’t from fear.ABOUT Rosalie Redd
She wanted to pound her fists against his body. “I’ll just pick my way out of there, too.”
“Don’t bet on it.”
He stood. Against her will, her body responded to his intense stare. He headed straight for her, a wall of pure, masculine strength.
She stilled as he approached. Without thought, she squeezed the wet rag in her hand. Water dripped onto the exam table. The stone was slightly concave, and the moisture ran into a small groove down the center.
He placed his palms on the surface of the table and leaned in. Up close and personal, he invaded her space as if he had every right.
“I don’t usually have trouble with disobedience, but you…” His eyes glowed, gold flecks mixing with the blue.
She met his glance and didn’t flinch. “I think you like the challenge.”
The skin around his eyes creased as a smile broke across his face. “You might be right about that.”
His actions were contradictory to who he was. As king, he needed to find himself a queen, a Stiyaha queen. Yet, here he was, alone with her.
He walked around the exam table and approached her from behind, closing the distance between them. “Nice, very nice.”
As she continued to scrub the table, his warm breath tickled her nape, sending shivers of desire down her spine. He placed his palm over the back of her hand. His large hand dwarfed hers, but his touch was gentle. Her skin lit up at the contact, and she gasped.
He chuckled. The sound reverberated through his chest and flowed deep into her heart. He moved their hands together over the surface of the wood, and they polished the table together.
“Like this?” he asked as he leaned over her back. The brush of their bodies burned like fire.
“Yes,” she whispered.

EXCERPT“He is sooo hot!” Riya loud-whispered, fanning her face theatrically. “And he’s obviously into you.”ABOUT Author Jasmine Hill
Tanvi glared at her friend. “Will you keep your voice down!”
In truth, Tanvi couldn’t understand why the man seemed so interested in her, particularly when she was sitting with Riya, who looked amazing in wide-legged, navy linen pants cinched tight at the waist and a white silk blouse.
She surreptitiously studied the man from under lowered lashes as she picked at the fruit on her plate. He was really attractive. He definitely took care of himself and she imagined he’d be using the hotel’s gym facilities on a daily basis. Even under his blue dress shirt she could see the definition in his arms and chest and, when he moved, his shirt strained slightly around his broad shoulders. When she’d looked directly at him on her way back from the breakfast buffet, she’d immediately noticed his blue eyes, piercing ice-blue, which were slightly intimidating. He had a scar dissecting his right cheek but, rather than marring what could have been considered a beautiful face it gave him a sexy and dangerous edge. She’d barely been able to contain her shudder of awareness as she’d walked by him. She took another quick peek across at him and decided that he swam a lot—his muscular shoulders and sun-streaked brown hair indicated that he spent time outside and in the water.
Tanvi glanced across at Riya, who was ogling the man blatantly. “Look at that hard jaw!” she whispered. “He just seems so…so masculine.”
Tanvi rolled her eyes. “You’ve been watching too many Hollywood movies.”
“Well, that man could have stepped directly out of a movie set where he’s the sexy, brooding hero,” Riya breathed with exaggerated awe. “He has alpha male written all over him.”
Tanvi laughed. “And what do you know about alpha males?”
“What don’t I know? You’re aware that I’m hardly a blushing maiden.” She smirked. “And I’ve read quite a bit of erotica and, you know, we have some good erotic authors here in India?”

By the time they made it to the beach, the July heat and humidity had reached their peak. They grabbed some burgers and fries from a boardwalk stand and snatched a table as a family got up. “You want to stay and swim?” Eron asked as he gobbled down his burger.
“Not really, too crowded.”
“When I was a kid, we’d never let the crowd stop us from swimming,” Eron quipped.
“Yeah, guess we have some sense now.”
They finished eating. Eron nodded toward the car rather than the beach. Garrett smirked and followed. As Garrett drove back to his apartment, Eron reached out and touched his thigh.
“I’m sorry,” Eron blurted out, in line with his own thoughts, but out of nowhere in the silence.
“For what?” Garrett answered, as if he and Eron were thinking about the same thing.
“I guess the whole thing.”
Garrett looked at him and grimaced. “What do you mean?”
“I feel like I start things and then put them to rest.”
Garrett shrugged. “I suppose things can be kind of sticky between us.”
“I don’t want them to be. I haven’t regretted anything we’ve done.”
“Having sex in the bushes at the country club?”
“Nope.”
“Dancing at the Valentine’s dance?”
“Not at all.”
“Maybe if we lived in a vacuum and didn’t have to deal with the rest of the world, this would be easier?”
“Maybe.”

Memories of You, Book I The Lake George SeriesABOUT Charlotte Daly
Zoe was tired and getting a little hungry. Thinking of the pub, a cool glass of wine sounded nice right about now, too. Where the hell was this Rolland guy, and why couldn’t the old biddy behind the counter simply point the way to her aunt’s—scratch that, her—cottage?
She was busy thumbing through a colorful flyer advertising local attractions when the glass door squeaked opened. She looked up.
And all the irritation and fatigue of the day melted away into a single, warm, wet lump in her lower belly.
He was tall—quite tall, and somewhat lanky, but broad shouldered like a male model. His jeans fit his body as if the denim was enjoying every minute. His unbuttoned, white polo shamelessly hugged a lean, sculptured torso.
This guy stepped out of a Calvin Klein ad. Surely, this can’t be Mr. Rolland.
She’d been picturing a man close in age to the woman she’d been trying to ignore for the past twenty minutes. But as he came through the door, the man glanced quickly at Betty, who nodded in Zoe’s direction. Then he turned his eyes toward her.
Those must be colored contacts. I’ve never seen eyes the same clear, almost iridescent hue as a swimming pool. Maybe it was the contrast against the hair—jet black, stick-straight, and ornery. He’d tried to tame it with some sort of product, but with little success. One chunk hung defiantly over his dark brow.
* * *
“Hi. I’m Jason Rolland.”
Jason extended his hand, his gaze scanning every inch of the shapely redhead in the bright, flowered sundress. What the hell was it made of? The clingy fabric outlined every one of her curves. The hem had inched up, gifting him with a view of an incredible set of legs.
So this is the woman I’m going to have to spar with over old Delia’s property. I was hoping this would be a simple, long-distance real estate transaction handled by my attorney. This is going to be a little more complicated than I was anticipating.
Shit.
He cleared his throat as he watched Zoe untangle her legs and struggle to her feet.
Her naked feet. They were perfect too—two tiny, smooth-looking little bugs with pale pink toenails. Innocent little feet, shamelessly exposed. Her toes pressed desperately on the surface of the pristine white tile.
“Hi. I’m Zoe Anderson.”

Chapter One
Early October 1866, Central Missouri
Rachel Conroy’s hand trembled as she shoved the gunnysack across the bank counter. She jerked a quick glance at the big clock on the wall. The Diamond Bluff bank closed in one minute. Nightfall had finally approached. Thank goodness the cobblestone streets of the German settlement were quiet now—the reason she’d chosen this time of day to execute her plan.
Still, she was literally risking her blasted neck. But sakes alive, what other choice had there been?
She gripped the cold gun, peered over the cloth stretched across her nose and cheeks, and drew in a shaky breath. “Everything in the drawer, mister. Coins, gold, silver, paper. Whatever you’ve got. And do it pronto or you’ll be seein’ your maker before you can holler howdy.”
She held her gaze steady and studied the teller. He stiffened behind the counter, his head lowered beneath a wide-brimmed felt hat. Honey-toned hair fell in a thick, straight mass to his brawny shoulders. By golly, she had to admit they were nice shoulders. The kind a woman could hang on to in the throes of passion, the kind that would bunch beneath her fingers when he thrust into her center. Her palms started to itch. She suddenly imagined reaching through the iron bars and tipping up his chin so she could see his face. She wanted to look into his eyes and have him tell her everything was going to be all right, that he would—
She shook her head to rid her mind of the stupid thoughts.
Hellfire and damnation, Rachel. Have you lost your cotton-pickin’ mind?
Well, she was robbing a bank. That certainly qualified her as barmy. But dang it all to hell, she couldn’t afford to slip into the coddling arms of her wild imagination, not in the middle of a cussed hold-up of all things.
He continued to keep his head downcast—or maybe if he was smart he stood motionless with fear, aware a burglary ensued. Her attention moved to the book he had his nose buried in. She took one step closer. A quick glance at the fancy script across the top of the page read, “Winemaking.”
Winemaking? Now that’s one convoluted banker to be reading about grapes of all things, and while piles of loot surrounded him.
She gave a mental shrug and blinked. Pay attention, you idiot. Rachel wagged the gun back and forth, nearly clanking it against the bars. “Did you hear me, pal? I said everything. Now.”
The clock ticked mockingly.
Gaddurn it, she wished he’d raise his head.
She waited for what seemed like danged eons, longing to glimpse the eyes and peer into the soul of her victim, to see that he paid for his association with the bank owner, that bastard Heinrich Finster.
When he continued to disregard her, she cleared her throat. “You keep ignorin’ me, you swine, that book’ll be blown to smithereens right along with your skull.”
At last his gaze rose slowly. Ah, here we go. She swallowed a lump and planted her feet apart, steadying the weapon for the action to come.
With an arrogant jerk of his head, he swung the longer strands of hair behind his broad shoulders. A familiar straight nose and strong, square jaw became visible. Rachel sucked in a faint breath, making the kerchief quiver over her mouth. Drat. It was the newcomer in town. She didn’t know his name, but she was certain it was him due to his usual conceit—he’d never seemed to notice her, moving in that swagger of his from the livery to the general store to the locksmith as if he owned this entire hellhole excuse for a town. As if everyone, and most especially Rachel, were beneath him.
Or didn’t exist at all.
Hmph. Yeah that was probably what he’d thoughtuntil now, until her weapon looked as real to him as a rattler staring him right in that handsome face of his.
She released a breath of relief. It was really a good thing. Since he’d never laid eyes on her before now, he wouldn’t recognize her. Feeling secure behind her disguise for the first time since donning it fifteen minutes ago, she allowed her gaze to scan his face, noting how it fit with his burly body. Lordy, but she’d never seen him this close up before. Her stomach did a flip as she studied the well-put-together features and big presence that made her feel dwarfed. No, make that womanly. Her face warmed at that surprising thought, but she didn’t have time to examine her silly-girl reactions. The visual path of his gaze traveled up the length of the gun, then along her arm and briefly settled on her chest. She stiffened, shivered. Though she’d bound her breasts flat, her nipples tingled at that quick brush, and she became starkly aware of her femininity beneath the lad’s garb.

But the Rainbow Killer moves beyond Atlanta, leaving a trail of dead bodies painted in bright hues in several towns north of the city. Leaving no trace evidence or DNA and choosing random victims with no apparent reason, Roy proves unstoppable. Then he arrives in Walton Springs, threatening the peaceful town with his murder spree. EXCERPT"Logan pulled up and saw Karlyn waiting for him on the porch swing. She came down the steps, her hair pulled back in a low ponytail. Tight jeans molded to her hips and butt left little to his imagination.
She reached for the helmet he offered and swung it onto her head.
“I am starving, Warner, so this hamburger joint better be good.”
Karlyn snapped the strap in place and threw her leg over the bike. She snaked her arms around his waist and locked her fingers together. Her floral perfume wafted around him, revving up his own engine.
The evening had turned cool. Logan knew he took a big risk, but this woman had gotten under his skin.
The worst she could do was say no.
The best would be a huge yes.
He tooled down the highway a few minutes and then pulled into a small parking lot. He cut the engine and waited a beat.
“The Cavalier Motel.” Her voice was low. Her arms still locked around him. He could sense the tension scrolling through her.
Logan got off the bike. Lifted her off. Pulled her to him. Heard the hitch in her breath.
“I haven’t slept with anyone since my wife. I’ve never pulled into a no-tell motel on a first date.” He drew her close. “But my blood races every time I’m around you, Karlyn Campbell. You’re all I think about. I want to taste you. Touch every inch of you. But the ball’s in your court.”

#MFRWauthor Mia Francis @maszyd Shares her Writing Day
MFRW Mia Frances talks about her writing day.
Mia writes across several genres under this pseudonym and others. Her published Science Fiction/Fantasy works include novels: The Ark, The Colony, The Land, and Source of Evil, and a novella, The Hand of My Enemy. In addition to her erotic romance murder mystery thriller series In His Keeping: Taken, Banished, and Claimed, she's also the author of Worship the Night, a tale of horror and the occult, mainstream novel Silent Song, and four children's books.
Her short stories, articles, children’s stories, essays, and poems have appeared in anthologies, books, magazines, newspapers, and on the web.
I’m an insomniac which is very helpful when you’re a writer. Once I get an idea in my head, I work out the plot and dialogue at night when it’s quiet. I don’t use an outline, but I do write down specific dialogue or scenes that I want to use in the book. I come up with a very definite idea of what I want each major character in the book to look like, then I go through magazines till I find a model, actor, actress, etc. that looks like them. I pin those pictures up on the wall labeled with my characters names in front of my laptop. I also do short character sketches of each character’s appearance, education, employment, habits, family, behavior traits, etc.
Every day I that I work on a particular chapter, I start my day by going back to the beginning of that chapter and reading and rewriting it where necessary, for clarity, to tighten dialogue, to add needed description, etc. When I finish the chapter, I go back and reread and rewrite it yet again. Then I give it to my husband to read and edit. After he’s done I read it again incorporating his corrections and suggestions and put it aside until the entire book is done. Then we both reread the whole book again for continuity and to make sure that the story isn’t bogging down in places. You need another pair or eyes, another person to read your work and catch your mistakes: formatting mistakes, typos, misspellings, redundancies, inconsistencies in the plot, characters, descriptions, obvious factual mistakes in your stories, etc.
MFRW author Mia Frances released IN HIS KEEPING: BANISHED, an Erotic Romantic Suspense.
Sylvie Jenkins' life is upended when boss and lover, billionaire Connor Hudson, becomes the prime suspect in a string of grisly murders. Those who love him...die! He sends her away; exiling her to his Park Ave. penthouse. They meet in secret, but he's changed. He has a dark cruel side that frightens her. What she discovers in a hidden closet, leaves her wondering...could he be capable of murder?
An erotic romance murder mystery thriller series!

Amazing, I am 100% In love with these books, I can't wait for the third . I am counting the days for the third book.

Really thrilled with pace of this trilogy. I left book 1 (Taken) dying to know what would happen next. Banished (book 2 in the series) does not disappoint! The book picks up in NYC where Connor sent Sylvie to protect her from the killer. Mia Frances introduces a number of slimy characters who could all easily be the killer. I am dying to know who the killer is and if my suspicions are correct. The relationship between Sylvie and Connor continues to intrigue me -- Sylvie seems to struggle with her position in Connor's bedroom and Connor is starting to struggle with putting her in that position. Cant wait to see where Book 3 ends up!

Day or Night? I'm definitely a night person. I do my best work after dark.
Pen and paper or Computer? Most of the time I prefer the computer because by typing I keep up with my flow of ideas better.
Fruit or Chocolate? I love fruit and eat it every day. Though I love chocolate as well, I'd give it up before fruit.
Coffee or Tea? Tea. I can't even stand the smell of coffee.
Roller Coasters or Merry-Go-Rounds? Merry-Go-Rounds, although I don't like rides in general.
Bath or Shower? Shower. I prefer flowing water to sitting in a tub.
City life or Country life? Country life. I enjoy open spaces and love going for runs and walks on country roads. I'm lucky enough to live on one.
Soft or Hard? Hard.
Ebook or Paperback? Do I have to make a decision? Truly, I love both. Ebooks are great because I can carry around so many books on my reader, but every now and then it's nice to hold a paper book.
Cats or Dogs? Again, I can't decide. I have two of each and I love them all.
Fast or Slow? I tend to go with fast more often than slow.
What is your secret guilty pleasure? The SAW movies.
Kate Hill's newest book is Captain's Mercy, a Historical Suspense, with Siren Publishing.
Mercy Brown's life changes when she accepts a position as companion to the disabled sister of wealthy shipyard owner Jonah Barnes. She is instantly attracted to the rugged former sea captain, even if his brusque manner offends her. Mercy soon finds herself entangled in the quirky family's secrets.
From the first, Mercy is troubled by prowlers, disturbances from the attic, and unearthly howls on the property. After meeting several unusual household members, including a groundskeeper who works by night and the mischievous Maxwell Barnes, Mercy realizes she should flee while she can.
Pages from Mercy's first novel go missing and Jonah's domineering personality causes tension in the house. Only Mercy's fondness for her young companion, Faith Barnes, as well as her fascination with Jonah prevent her from leaving, but will her desire for him endanger her life? Jesse leaned against a tree to draw in a few deep breaths. As he straightened, he plucked his ball cap off his head and wiped his forearm across his brow, then hooted a victory cheer. “Hard work’s over. Time for the reward.”ABOUT Joyce M. Holmes
He dropped the cap onto the sand and emptied his pockets into it. Then he pulled his T-shirt over muscled shoulders, dropped it onto the sand on top of his cap, and made quick work of his footwear. Drey stared in disbelief as he beelined down the beach and ran straight into the low surf. When he was hip-deep in the water, he slipped smoothly beneath the surface. He reappeared several feet out and turned to wave.
“Join me,” he called. “The water’s great.”
“Not a chance. The ocean is cold in summer, I can only imagine how frigid it must be today.”
“Wuss,” he scoffed and splashed water in her direction.
Shivers that had nothing to do with feeling chilly shot through Drey as she watched him emerge from the water a few minutes later. Rivulets ran down his chest, following the ridges and planes of his brawny body. Wet shorts clung to muscular thighs.
He ran his hands over his face and then shook himself like a playful pup. “You don’t know what you missed. Nothing like a dip in the salt chuck to get the heart pumping. Well, almost nothing.” He stalked deliberately up the beach toward her, and the look on his face made her back away, but she didn’t react fast enough. He caught her up in his arms, laughing at her shrieks of protest.
“Lemme go, Jesse. You’re cold. Come on, Jesse, lemme go. You’re getting me all wet.”
“That’s the whole idea. Get you wet and me warm.”
She gave him a firm push in the wrong direction as she sprinted down the beach. “Not if you can’t catch me,” she threw over her shoulder as she went.

After he captures Lady Lily Rouge's carriage, Sir Marrok Ulfang, aka The Biggest Baddest Wolf the Enchanted Forest has ever seen, has only one day to win her heart and claim her first sexual surrender, even if it means giving the nosey pixies fluttering outside his cottage window an eyeful.

And the daylight is fading fast.
EXCERPT: Chapter One
Once upon a moonlit night in late October in the Enchanted Forest where cursed beings are consigned until the spells that bind them are broken…
An autumn breeze ruffled the massive male wolf’s fur. Its thick pelt shone glossy under the moonrise that crested the treetops. In the midst of stalking a juicy rabbit, the predator froze. Catching a whiff of something far more interesting on a current of air, it lifted its nose and inhaled, hardly daring to hope. A delectable scent wafted into its sensitive nostrils.
A maiden was close by. In his wood. And the harvest moon above would wax full on All Hallow’s Eve tomorrow night! Fortune was spreading her shapely legs for him this night. At last…
Pricking his ears forward, the wolf padded in and out of the tree shadows, turning his proud head this way and that. His keen hearing detected the creaking, jangling sound of a moving carriage. It was rattling along on the north road, just before Troll’s Bridge! His blood raced when he realized his maiden would pass by the Hexed Waterfall and directly through the heart of his territory very soon.
She would never leave the boundary of his lands, vowed the wolf silently.
The approaching woman’s exciting scent grew stronger, further teasing and intoxicating his senses. All of the wolf’s considerable hunting instincts sprang to life. Through sheer self-will, he prevented himself from dashing off into the bushes after her erotic perfume like a yappy cur chasing a peddler’s cart.
The powerful, dark creature pointed his nose toward the silver moon and unleashed a fearful howl that slashed through the night air.

Colin wanted her to believe that he was truly happy for her. And he was. It was just … Better nae put too much into precise thought, lest he speak his mind.ABOUT Rue Allyn
“Regardless of my hopes, I may nae be able to return for some time,” he hedged, unable to admit even to himself how much he regretted leaving. If only she wasna to wed Brice. “Please, I beg you, grant me a kiss of peace to bless my travels?”
“Of course. When Brice and I are married, I’ll have the Strathnaver priest say masses for you every week, as well.”
“Thank you.” He stood, pulling her up with him.
She tilted her face, and he lowered his mouth to hers.
He intended only the lightest brush of lips, but she lifted herself onto her toes in the same moment, and her soft flesh yielded beneath the added pressure. She opened, and impulsively, he took the chance to taste her, to lick and savor her sweetness.
Her arms went around his neck, and she answered his advance with an artless passion that he wanted to believe came from her heart. She trembled against him. He embraced her, crushing her breasts to his chest. Her tongue’s small forays tantalized him. Desire raced in his heart, and his head swam. Could she love me? How could that be? He dinna know, but he would share this joy with her for as long as heaven allowed.
“Brother, release my betrothed.” Audible but slurred, the menacing whisper pricked his ears the way Brice’s blade stung Colin’s neck.

Travel to Alaska through the pages of ""Staking a Claim""
By Laura Freeman on December 8, 2015
In Staking a Claim by Devon McKay, she hits on all the elements of a romantic conflict. Sam is a Miami advertiser visiting Alaska to sell it to tourists while Blake is a naturalist trying to preserve and protect Alaska from invasion by ignorant visitors. The rugged outdoorsman and pretty city girl have instant chemistry but have to navigate their opposing goals. Devon may be an Ohio native but her years living in Alaska bring the adventures to life as Blake decides to educate Sam in the mysteries of the wilderness. She shows him the beauty and wonder of the land through fresh eyes. Devon develops the romance with an ebb and flow that keeps the reader turning the pages. The likeable characters are easy to befriend, and Devon mixes humor with adventure to move the romance along. When Sam is lost in the woods, the suspense of her fate builds to a final confrontation between civilizations.
EXCERPT
Living in Alaska for 27 years, Devon McKay has many exciting stories to tell about the state. On several occasions, she was chased by a mother moose defending her young, stalked by a bear, endured temperatures of forty below and once was even trapped in an avalanche. She loved every minute of it!
After writing her first novel, Cowboy On The Run, she now calls a small ranch in Ohio home with her loving husband and teenage son. Although the farm life is slightly more laid back then the perils of Alaska, Devon enjoys the slower pace of the country lifestyle which gives her plenty of time to follow her passion of writing.

Fuming, Sam held his gaze as she considered his offer. She couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity to be dropped into her lap. She could learn everything she needed to know about Alaska and have a handsome, but overly protective, guide of the state to show her. Not to mention what his knowledge could do for the brochure.ABOUT Devon McKay
It would also mean more time in his temperamental company.
Sam considered her options. She had gotten lucky finding Carlton Landing, but what about locating her elusive hotel? As proven last night, it was more than evident she couldn’t even read a map correctly. So, what real choice did she have?
She pictured her new office…the view of the ocean…the partnership. She was willing to take the chance. Besides, she’d never been the kind of girl who shied away from a challenge. Hell, so far, her life had been a series of challenges.
“It’s a deal.” Her voice came off cool and professional despite the quickening of her heartbeat. She offered her hand to shake on the agreement. “We haven’t officially met. Samantha Held. I go by Sam.”
“Blake Langford.” He extended his, grasping her hand and repeating the name she already knew by heart. He held onto her grasp for a minute longer than necessary. “I go by Wolf.”
Again, the breathtaking grin resurfaced, and an odd pulsation spiked through Sam, leaving her insides quivering like a bowl of gelatin as she second guessed her decision.
What kind of fool makes a deal with a man called Wolf?

Where does #MFRWauthor @AnneCarrole get her Story Ideas?
MFRW author Anne Carrole shares where her story ideas come from.
Anne Carrole has been writing stories since she was in elementary school but back then the hero was more likely to ride a bike not a horse and share a stick of gum rather than a kiss. Her muse usually comes wearing a cowboy hat. Raised on a farm with horses, dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits and whatever other animals she could convince her parents to shelter, she’s married to her own sweet-talking hero and is the proud mother of a college-aged daughter. They all share their home with a sleek black cat with way too much attitude.
Anne’s Website | Amazon | Anne’s Facebook | Anne’s Twitter
My story ideas often come from people in real life who inspire me. I have always been fascinated with the history of the American West and that led me to an interest in rodeo and ranching (I’m a farm girl, after all) which infuse the Hearts of Wyoming Series of which The Maverick Meets His Match is Book 2. There are only a few, very few, women who raise livestock for rodeos and Mandy was inspired by one of them, a woman who recently began to run her father’s well-known rodeo company. Intrigued I read a few articles about her, since she is somewhat of a phenomenon, and also read a book on the family’s business. That was all I needed for the imagination to saddle up.
As for why a romance? I love writing romance because you get to explore the characters—their past, their growth, how they change, and how they remain the same. In romance, the characters are the story so having interesting characters to explore is important. As both a reader and a writer, I want that Happily Ever After. At the end of a long day, I don’t want to read about someone else’s misery unless I know that at the end, it is going to be all right. In a world where so little seems in my control, I need to know it is going to come out right. I believe a good story is one where we want to empathize, sympathize, feel for what the character is going through.
One of my favorite book reviews received from a reader was this: “I have just finished reading Loving a Cowboy and I have to say they don't come any better than this! I laughed and I cried (happy tears).” Reading that review I felt I had done my job. And what is better than the emotional whirlwind you are in when you are falling in love.

When Mandy Prescott’s grandfather dies, this determined cowgirl expects to head up the family’s stock rodeo company. Mandy has three days to decide—marry a man she doesn’t trust but is still attracted to, or risk her company being sold. Risking her company is one thing. Risking her heart is another

Ty Martin had never regretted the choices he’d made, until now. Shading his eyes against the sunlight glinting off the dial of his Rolex, he checked the time. Twenty minutes until life changed. Maybe temporarily. Maybe for good.Or bad.Tamping down the unease that always came with loose ends, Ty moved past the corrals where the cowhands were topping off the water troughs. Heads popped up like jack-in-the-boxes, but no one acknowledged him. Not a word, not a wave, not a nod. Instead, they stared as if he were some curiosity on parade.Ty tugged the brim of his Stetson lower. At least being an outsider would make decisions easier.Without breaking stride, he swept by the barn where the stalls were being mucked out and moved on past the low building that served as an office for the livestock rodeo company he would now head. Dust kicked up as he went, coating his custom-made alligator boots and threatening to settle on his black dress pants.A steer bellowed in the distance, part of the ranch herd that had been brought in for culling. He scanned the side parking area for a gray pickup truck. Silver metal glistened just a few feet away from his black BMW. At least he wouldn’t be the last one to walk into the lawyer’s office. For most of his life he had run from anything to do with ranching, working his way through law school, scoring a job at a land development firm, and fighting his way to a partnership—only to eventually walk away. And now, here he was, heading up a livestock operation. A rodeo livestock operation.Just a year. That’s what he had promised. Just enough time to decide the fate of the company that bore another family’s name. And they would hate him for it, or at least one person would hate him for it, if she didn’t already.
