13 sentences from Wolf's Blade:
As much as he loved and admired his twin brother, Callum knew he was a bit of a hothead. Most of the pack members didn’t care for his brother’s style of leadership either, and because of that there were rumblings about a possible change. Eryx shared that view, but unlike the others, he acted on his feelings and stole the Kheta Dagger to accomplish his goal of ruling.
“Eryx, come out, I know you’re here,” he said, peering around.
His wolf sight helped him see in the dim light. He flared his nostrils and scented the air.
There you are. He took slow deliberate steps toward the direction of the smell.
A wolf howled in the distance. It echoed through the night, bouncing off the tree trunks, traveling over the grassy ridges, finally stopping in front of him. He knew it came from a female by the way the pitch shifted up as she sang out her “oo” sound. He stopped. Her call pierced his heart. It was filled with a type of longing that only another person who’d survived an equal amount of pain could understand. She’d endured the pain and made it out alive. Every note in her defiant voice gave evidence to that. It awakened the heat inside of him.
