#MFRWauthor Book Spotlight: The Sun King @skylewrites by Sandra Kyle

Sandra Kyle released The Sun King, an Erotic Historical.
Young Cecilia Danet is introduced to the opulent world of royalty when she joins the court of King Louis XIV—the Sun King. Having been groomed her whole life for the role of a courtesan prepares her for everything but the intense passion she feels with the brooding and powerful Louis. Their romance builds, but an intriguing twist changes the trajectory of Cecilia’s course and leaves her caught in the middle of a royal love triangle.
REVIEW
"Sun King is a beautiful, sexy novel filled with all the pomp and circumstance of the era. The descriptions were so evocative and visual that I felt like I was right there in the French ruler’s court. Thanks to the immediacy of the storytelling, I fell in love with the Sun King right along with Cecilia.

Although the love story (or should I say stories) turned out to be somewhat unorthodox and surprising, as a reader I rooted for the heroine all the way through to the end.

I tend to be a slow reader, but I finished the book in just a few sittings. The only book I ever finished faster was The Great Gatsby. I will definitely be looking for more stories by Ms. Kyle."

EXCERPT
He moved closer. His perfection crept toward me with ease. His hands gripped my shoulders, guiding me to face the mirror once again. I met his gaze in the mirror as his reflection fell over me. His fingers traveled lightly across my bare skin. They found their way over my back and neck, into my hair. He bent down, lifting my curls to meet his nose. He deliberately inhaled my scent.

He found the last remaining hairpins at the crown of my head and released them. The locks tumbled around my face. Grabbing at the tresses, he rested them behind my shoulders. His fingers ran through them again.

“So dark and beautiful.” He spoke to no one in particular. I took the moment to spy upon him. He continued the luxurious combing, wrapping my curls around his skin. Brown tendrils of wispy hair framed his face, falling around his shoulders. The hair, so perfectly arranged at the dinner table, broke free. A few strands fell against his forehead, obscuring one of his azure eyes. A hand lifted from my lap momentarily, wanting to brush them back.
This is his time.

“You have interrupted my thoughts often since I saw you that first time. What it would feel like to touch you. How you would feel beneath me.”

A gasp left my mouth, my thoughts envisioning his words. His hands pulled my hair to the side, over my shoulder.

“Stand up, my treasure.”
I rose slowly from the chair. As I stepped to face him, his gaze wandered over my body again, looking down at me. “Do you know why you are here?”
I nodded before he demanded, “Tell me.”
I stammered. “I-I am here to please you.”
“Do you know how?” I hesitated, not quite sure what response would be appropriate. “It is all right. I will show you.” His hands found my waist before sneaking around to my back. He pulled me against him. The silk of our clothing swished together. His mouth opened. Hot breath washed over me. He licked his top lip. “Do you want me to show you?”
“Yes, Louis.”

Shelves: erotica, paranormal
Owning the Night (Hunting the Dark Lord #4) by Ann Jacobs is a quick erotic read. Ann Jacobs is able to pack so much detail in just a few paragraphs; it took just six chapters to delve into a world of cops, hunters, and vampires.

EXCERPT
“Fuck.” The epithet slipped through Alex’s lips, a guttural cry that echoed against the heavy air that surrounded him. ""You’re certain?""

""Reynard landed right outside the gate to this deserted estate on Biscayne Bay and went inside. There’s only one way out, and I’ve been watching it. I swear he hasn’t gone anywhere unless he’s found a way to slip through stone walls. But since he’s been in Miami, three women have died. His work. I’m sure of it, though I don’t know how he gets in and out.""

Most vampires, Alex included, could move with stealth when circumstances demanded it. But Alex had been studying Louis Reynard since his pattern of serial killings began, and he’d never observed that the bastard could cloak his presence from fellow vampires—or that he could move through solid walls the way Alex and his clansmen could if they were sufficiently motivated. Still, the wily vampire had obviously managed to sneak out from under Philippe’s watchful eye. Three times so far.

It became more evident every time Alex encountered Reynard that while he might be old and battered, even for a vampire, he possessed an unequaled arsenal of powers. Alex shouldn’t have been surprised. After all, Louis had been honing his supernatural abilities for evil since centuries before Alex had been born.

What should I do? Philippe’s tone broadcast his frustration, a sentiment Alex echoed.

""It’s all right, my friend. I should be there very soon—assuming the winds don’t change direction."" Damn. He, Stefan and Claude shouldn’t have expected a made vampire, no matter how well Philippe was motivated, to be able to destroy Reynard or even keep him under surveillance once Reynard had sensed his presence.

They themselves had failed to end the serial killer’s life, and they’d been three against one. Alex let out another oath as he broke through the clouds and zeroed in on the bright lights of Florida’s Gold Coast.
No. Reynard still lived to wreak havoc on mortal women. And to horrify and terrify Alina, his cousin and the d’Argent clan’s beloved queen. Alex concentrated hard, cut through the damp air with a satisfying whoosh and sped toward his destination with hardened resolve.
This time he wouldn’t fail. Louis Reynard would die. And d’Argent honor would be restored.
ABOUT Ann Jacobs
Before settling down to raise a family and write stories about to-die-for Alpha heroes and the women who tame them, Ann Jacobs spent several years on staff of a national CPA firm and a few more as financial manager of hospitals and a health maintenance organization in west-central Florida. She began writing while her children were babies, making her first sale to the Berkley Publishing Group in 1996.

Almost twenty years and more than a hundred books and novellas later, she still lives in Tampa, Florida, with her own personal hero, her youngest son, a sometimes neglected orchid collection, and four very spoiled and much-loved cats.

A Dozen Quirky Questions... A Dozen Quick Answers...

DAY OR NIGHT?
I am definitely a day person since my mind gets pretty foggy if I stay up past 11 pm.

PEN & PAPER OR COMPUTER?
I write my first drafts with pen and paper then type it into my laptop to edit.

FRUIT OR CHOCOLATE?
I have a love/hate relationship with chocolate; I am too often tempted to eat it and it is so bad for me. Now, fruit, I love. I have fruit in my smoothie every morning.

COFFEE OR TEA?
I am definitely a tea drinker, herbal, green and white teas begin my day.

ROLLER COASTERS OR MERRY-Go-ROUNDS?
I've always loved Merry-Go-Rounds pretending I was a princess on my horse. I have learned as I grow older to leave the roller coasters to the younger crowd.

BATH OR SHOWER?
I love to soak in my claw foot tub and read. Talk about pampering yourself!

CITY OR COUNTRY?
Cities are great to visit but I prefer the quiet of the country to keep my sane.

SOFT OR HARD?
Soft or hard depends on what we are talking about...

EBOOK OR PAPERBACK?
I am old fashioned in my preference for paperback books to hold, smell and treasure.

CATS OR DOGS?
I relate closer to cats than dogs.

FAST OR SLOW?
Generally, I like a slow pace to relax and enjoy something.

YOUR SECRET GUILTY PLEASURE?
My secret guilty pleasure remains a closely guarded secret else it be a well-known guilty pleasure:)

"The level of sensuality is perfect: not overdone, just romantic and gently sensual. He is the sexy alpha male; she is a sweet and somewhat shy woman who is a bit in awe of this impressive star and dedicated philanthropist." - Julie, 5 stars

He followed the priest to a courtyard. A young woman sat beside a storm-crushed rose bed. Deshi guessed her to be American, in her early twenties. “Who she, Father?”
“No one knows, not even her.”
The supplies had gone so fast. They had only been to six of the eleven shelters and there were so many people still in need. “Maybe one more thing I can do today,” Deshi said with a sigh. “Father?”
The priest’s right hand clutched the large cross at his neck and he smiled. “Yes, my son?”
“I will take her.”

Somewhere between love and tomorrow is forever!

REVIEWS
"I wept at the end of the book for more than one reason. I was ready for the end of the series but I still want more. I loved this book the most because it pointed out the failure of resolution. It also pointed out that the north held their own prejudices. The most meaningful quote for me was when Jo reflected, ""...life is not about making an impact on the world as we know it, but on the lives of those you love. I wonder what impact I have made..."" This series is definitely the best I have ever read regarding the War Between the States. It was gripping, romantic, suspenseful and historical. A story well-woven. START with book one. You must! It will be worth it!" - C. Roberts, Amazon Reviewer

"From the very beginning to the end of the 4th book this was hard to put down. The characters and story line were we'll developed and held my interest throughout. I looked forward to the last book and was concerned I might forget some of the story but not to worry. You were able to tie it all together easily. I also loved the ending. Don't cry over many books but this one sure brought on the tears." - Amazon Reviewer

EXCERPT
“Cullen!” she cried.
He stood for a moment and stared at her. His eyes grieved. Understanding his hesitation, her eyes widened. “Oh, Cullen, tell me it is not so.”
He rushed toward her. Taking her by the elbow, he uttered, “Come. We will find privacy.”
Jo hurried beside him, her small steps barely in step with his. He did not slow until they reached the Battery.
Standing against the backdrop of the Charleston harbor, utter wretchedness assaulted her, physically weakened and mentally broken. Her nerves were shaken; she made no effort to conceal her feelings.
His eyes lit upon her. She could take no more. “Don’t leave me,” she pleaded. “I can take anything but the knowledge you don’t want me.”
He reached over and caressed her face. “It has nothing to do with my feelings toward you.”
“Papa…Papa wants me…to marry…Andrew,” she said, desperately trying to find her words. She clutched his hand. “I cannot…not when I love you.”
“Oh, my sweet magnolia, I wish things were different. Your father took a great effort to explain your situation. It is complicated. It tears at the ties that bind between honor and duty. If I gave in to my desires, I would sweep you up North.”
“Please, Cullen, I will go.”
He shook his head. “Our love would change. Over time, our passion will turn to resentment, then, God forbid, apathy. I could not live with that. It is best if what we had becomes a remembrance.”
A sudden anger surged through her. She pushed away from him. “Go then! I care not. You are no more than a coward. No better than anyone else in my life. Promises made, only to be broken. Hold on to your honor and duty and know I will give myself to another!”
For a breathless moment, the world stilled. The ocean waves pounded against the stone wall, spewing water all around them. She became oblivious of everything around her except Cullen.
Suddenly, she felt his hand around her waist. He drew her into his arms. He leaned down and kissed her. He deepened the kiss. She couldn’t think; she could only feel…
“I’ll be damned if another touches you,” he whispered against her lips. “I can’t fight this. I choose you, always you.”

REVIEW
"This is a story about what a couple of strong people who accommodate and bend to each other’s demands through love and profound respect can achieve. I’ve seen it in real life – but here someone has embodied it in fiction. Superb." - Gary Bonn, Author of Expect Civilian Casualties

EXCERPT
“I have something to tell you.” She smiled gently and put my hand to her waist. “ I am again with child.”
I drew my hand back. “With child? How long have you known?”
“I suspected it on the day of the hanging. I wasn’t certain, I’m still not certain, but with everyday it becomes more evident that it is true.
I sat upon the bed, overcome with a mix of emotion. The thought of a child warmed me and yet this warmth was tormented. We were at sea, heading for a land where we neither spoke the language nor well understood the customs. Lenora had already lost a pregnancy, and this was hardly a place for a woman with child.
Then something else occurred to me and anger was added to this mix of feeling. “You had thought to wait until now to tell me?”
Lenora stared at me as though I lashed her with a whip. She took her gown off of the floor and put it on, then crossing her arms over her breasts she tried for an explanation. “I have not seen a doctor.  I have not shared the news with anyone. You must know I would tell you first.”
“A fortnight has passed since the hanging. And yet you waited until now.”
“ I hadn’t found the right time to tell you.”
I got up and pulled on my breaches and stood over her. “ You carry my child and think the time must be right?” I pulled my shirt on and made ready to go.
“Anton, don’t be angry. I was—you were so busy, hiring a crew, preparing the ship.  I did not want to add to your burden.”
“A child is no burden. Surely you know that. And your concealing it is no small matter.” I left her then. Let her think hard and long on what she had done.

Support Wounded Warrior Charity with Her First Night by #MFRWauthor @LiviaQuinn

Her First Knight: Under-Cover Knights, the prequel
by Livia Quinn
Contemporary Military Romance
Campbell Hill Publishing

“Tucker, Tucker.”

Ridge is an inventor, ex-Ranger, a billionaire CEO on a mission for veterans. So with the big vote on his bill coming up, how had he wound up on stage beside two cover models, with a hundred women shouting, “take it off”? That’s the question his friends and family would be asking tomorrow, if they found out. That, and “Who’s Tucker?” He’d just have to make sure no one found out about his little side trip. It could turn into his worst nightmare.

It had seemed like a recipe for harmless fun. A curious CEO on the way to his room follows a gorgeous redhead onto the wrong floor. Add a hundred romance writers and readers attending a conference. Toss in some false assumptions, throw out a lifetime of good behavior and Ridge was up to his Special Forces tattoo in manure.

REVIEWS
""There is a part near the end of this book that brought me to tears...I was sobbing. This book is dedicated to veterans and it's just a beautiful scene. If you haven't read it you'll know which one it is, if you have.... well you know what scene I'm talking about."" Amazon

""I really enjoyed this book. The characters were wonderful and the story was great. Most of all, it brings up the troubles that vets are having getting help from the VA for their ptsd and other medical problems. My dad was a proud WW11 vet til the day he passed and he had many problems getting help from the VA. I hope all of you that read this find a way to give a helping hand to our wounded warriors."" Amazon

PROCEEDS DONATED to the Wounded Warriors Charity between November 5-15, 2015.

EXCERPT
"Whether congress votes yes or no, we will move forward.”
“I’ve heard about some of the problems veterans face but didn’t realize the extent of it,” Buffy said, refilling his coffee.
“The burden on the VA is growing, with so many veterans between the ages of nineteen and twenty-five. With the agency’s recent problems, horror stories abound of vets dying or starving while waiting on diagnosis, care, or treatment. Many of them travel great distances to the nearest VA and face an overwhelming stream of paperwork, in addition to financial hardships on their families. Others end up on the street due to mental disorders or lack of appropriate care. It’s unacceptable.
“There's a vast disparity between what the government promises and what it can actually provide in terms of medical services and after care. Our consortium partners will also deal with other issues—housing, education, family support, even file paperwork, and provide transportation.”
“I’ve been talking to Sally Freeman, you remember her?” Buffy asked.
“Yes. The author with the WWP fund.”
“Sally told me women are more than twice as likely to have PTSD. And I didn’t realize that the majority of amputees were in the Army.” Like Ridge’s brother. “It seems overwhelming.”
“There’s a lot of need.” Ridge got up and poured himself another cup of coffee. He seemed unsettled suddenly. Buffy suspected the discussion brought the circumstances with his brother closer. “My concentration has been on prosthetics in the past, but replacing a limb isn’t the worst thing that can happen. These are the days of true bionics, where the replacement can add flexibility and advantages the human limb couldn’t.”
He looked out onto the backyard. “Even more important is the diagnosis of mental disorders so soldiers can be treated and find value in life again, and share in the support of their families. It’s the minimum they deserve. These are proud men and women who don’t like to have to ask for handouts or even treatment that’s due them. I want to see that end.”

ABOUT Livia Quinn
Livia Quinn grew up near DC—go Redskins!—then moved to the bayous of Louisiana—go Saints! Yes, she’s a huge football fan. With a life long fascination, read that: phobia of storms, and with severe weather a part of life in Louisiana, it was only natural that it would play a big part in her world. Livia’s Storm Lake series encompasses paranormal on the West end of the lake in Destiny and military romance and contemporary to the East in Larue and Thunder Point. But there’s always magic because what would life be without a little magic?

by Ute Carbone
Mainstream (PG13) Women's Fiction
Turquoise Morning Press

There comes a moment when the past we’ve left behind draws attention to itself and demands that we come to terms with it.  For Patty Dykstra, a woman who has long led an unassuming life, that moment comes after her aunt dies. Among a life’s worth of things,  Patty finds unopened cards from her father, a man that she hasn’t seen since she was six years old.

Patty is compelled to return to a small town in upstate New York to find the man who used to call her Star Shine, a man she barely remembers.  The Tender Bonds is the story of Patty’s life- altering journey, of the faith and hope that grow in the meanest of places, and of what it means to be truly home.

Sometimes the end is a new beginning
What REVIEWERS Are Saying...
Patty’s life-changing journey isn’t a syrupy-sweet one, but the author paints it with sweet moments woven in and with brilliant imagery. At points, Carbone’s writing almost sings off of the page, in notes that range from discordant to melodious. 4 out of 4 stars - Online Book Club

Beautiful words, elegantly strung together, this is a wonderful example of writing from the heart reaching towards the hearts of even the most calloused readers.  - Tome Tender Book Reviews

EXCERPT
He played with the cupboard door before shutting it. “Lenore worked at the Fulton Elementary School. She was the school librarian.” I sat down. The light from the living room shadowed his face. “After…at the service. The teachers from the school and some of the kids and their parents, they came. They brought these balloons. A whole bunch of balloons. Judy, Lenore’s mother, said later that she didn’t like them. That they felt too celebratory and we’d just lost…but I thought they were beautiful. I remember when they released them, all these bright colors heading for the clouds. I remember hoping Lenore and the kids were like those balloons. That floating up to heaven was like that. I wished I could float away, just be unanchored. Just head out, unanchored.”

When he looked at me, his eyes drove a pin through my heart. He put his hand to my cheek, his fingers lingering light against my skin for a minute, and then he walked out. I heard his footsteps on the stairs, and I didn’t try to follow him.

I should have left. My head was telling me to go, an angry bee buzzing ‘get out, get out while you can.’ But my heart said otherwise. My heart, heavy as the darkness in that room, said ‘stay.’

“My parents and I have never done anything to warrant being shunned by them. Our parents were best friends.”
“That doesn’t change what your brothers did or how it’s impacted my family. It’s one thing to deal with you living in the same town. It’s another for them to accept what just happened between us.”
“What happens between us has nothing to do with your family,” he snapped. He was tired of being judged. It wasn’t like she didn’t feel something for him. He lowered his voice and cupped her cheek. “Things can be good between us, Vick. You know it.”
She held his gaze, and he felt her tremble. He leaned forward, determined to convince her to give them a chance.
Her hand shot out and stopped him from doing more than graze her lips. “Stop. Nothing good will come of this.” She rolled off the bed and kept her back to him.
“You’re choosing them over your own happiness?”
She wiped at her face before turning to him.
Despite the tears that dampened her eyes, her answer was clear from the stubborn set of her chin. “What choice do I have?”
“There’s always a choice.”
“And a price to pay. They’re my family. I pick them. I’ll always pick them.”

After avoiding him for months, she is finally ready to exact her revenge. But after meeting him, she realizes things are not as they seem.

Both live in a world of lies where trust does not come easily. But it’s trust they need most when a winter storm has them stranded in Dominic’s small home town. Can the trust they find lead them to love and a new beginning for them both?

"This was a very short sweet read! I loved both main characters. Heather and Dominic seemed to click very early on which was great as the book is very short. They were very passionate about their families and doing the right thing. Both of them gave as good as they got. I thoroughly enjoyed the story line; it was different to what I have read before. A wonderful easy read. 5 stars!"

""An Eye For Danger was exciting, thrilling, swoon worthy, and had me biting my nails and gasping in anger or surprise from beginning to end. Excerpt
AN EYE FOR DANGER by Christine M. Fairchild
He removed the hat and smoothed back his hair, raining down smiles that flooded me with goosebumps and dread. We stood inches apart. I couldn't move, not away from him, not closer.
Sam reached, skimming my jawline, hesitating to make contact. I stepped forward, willed him to take up my skin freely. His fingers trickled down my neck. I held to his arm as I consumed details about him I didn't want to forget: how the gold flecks in his eyes matched his sun-kissed strands, how his cheeks flushed when I stared at him, how his brows sank when he hurt. How they were sinking now.
His thumb brushed my lower lip with that lulling stroke. ""For everything you've sacrificed. For him. And for me.""
Lowering his head, Sam enveloped my bottom lip at length with a soft kiss, and then my top lip with the same care. A slow, tender kiss. A goodbye kiss.
My eyes closed. Luke had never said goodbye. One day he was just gone. I could recall his scent, his laugh, the tenor of his voice when he called my name, but I couldn't remember how his mouth felt or tasted. That Luke never had impressed itself. And now Sam was saying goodbye for him. But my body knew the difference.
My eyes blinked open. The kiss had ended, but I'd been lost in the moment, engorged with memories. I gasped for air, not realizing I'd held my breath.
Sam stared down at me, his eyes dilated with hope, waiting for me to wake up from the kiss, from three years of hibernation.
The hat and bag dropped. The door slammed shut. The small distance between his bruised body and my aching one closed.
He engulfed my mouth with moist, voracious lips, as his hand cemented between my shoulder blades, pushing me higher onto my toes to match his force. His tongue delved into my mouth at every angle, but I couldn't match his pace.
In our fervor I nipped his lower lip, sank my fingers into his thick hair, clawed the back of his shoulder, urged my breasts against his chest. His hands slid inside my shirt, moving up and down my spine. The sensation of his calloused fingers seeking my skin dizzied me. We couldn't get close enough. Not with all his damn layers and Kevlar...

#MFRWauthor INTERVIEW: When The Band Came To Town @HLewisFoster

Meet H. Lewis-Foster
H. Lewis-Foster lives in the north of England and has always worked with books in one form or another. As a keen reader of gay fiction, she decided to try writing herself and is now the proud author of several short stories and a debut novel 'Burning Ashes'.

H. creates characters that are talented, funny and quite often gorgeous, but who all have their faults and vulnerable sides, and she hopes you'll enjoy reading their stories as much as she loves writing them. H. has also ventured into playwriting and was thrilled to see her first play performed last year.

Website - http://hlewisfoster.wix.com/books
Twitter - https://twitter.com/HLewisFoster
Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/HLewisFoster

How long have you been writing? About five years.
Have you always wanted to be a writer?
Secretly, yes, but it took me a long time to finally put pen to paper.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Still writing romance, because I enjoy it so much, and maybe doing more play writing.
How many books have you written, how many have been published?
I’ve written one novel, two novellas and ten short stories. They’ve all been published.
After you've written your book and it's been published, do you ever buy it and/or read it?
I sometimes read a story a year or so after it’s been published - it’s good to go back and experience it as a reader.
Do you have a favorite among your books?
My novel ‘Burning Ashes’. I loved writing about the intense romance between Nat and Scott, and following their relationship over the years.
Favorite hero or heroine?
My current favourite is Archie in ‘When the Band Came to Town’. He’s intelligent, handsome, physically and emotionally strong, and he’s always there for his friends.
What book for you has been the easiest to write?
Northern Relations, a regency romance.
The hardest? My current novel – more details soon!
The most fun? In the Blue Moonlight, a funny, quirky short story.
Which comes first, the story, the characters, or the setting?
My stories are very much character-led, so characters definitely.
What is the hardest part of writing/the easiest for you?
To be honest, I enjoy the whole process of writing, but I guess that editing is the hardest part – although if you have a good editor, it can be very rewarding.
Are you in control of your characters or do they control you?
I like to think I’m in control, but sometimes characters take the plot in unexpected directions.
Have you experienced writer's block?
I’ve been very lucky and haven’t been stuck for ideas so far.
What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?
It’s fantastic to read a lovely review - knowing that someone has enjoyed your writing makes it all worthwhile.
What is the single most important part of writing for you?
Rewriting is the most important part of writing. Finishing the first draft of a story is just the beginning.
What do you enjoy most about writing?
Getting that initial idea, then seeing where the story takes me...

Dreamspinner Press
In the swinging Sixties, life gets rockin’ for Jeff McInnery when a new band plays at the local pub. Caught up in lead singer Danny Speed’s cool, Jeff sneaks a kiss. But being found out as homosexual could stop Danny’s hot career fast, and even land him in jail. With harsh words, Danny leaves to head for fame and fortune while Jeff starts university. On campus, Jeff meets Archie Ballatine, a history student living as openly as possible. It’s an exciting new world of sex and friendship for Jeff, but then the band comes back to town.

MM Good Book Reviews - 5 hearts - https://goo.gl/LpAXzx
This is a nice, short and exceedingly charming story which I realised once I got to the end is actually meant to be more like a memoir of Jeff McInnery. In a time where in the UK one could get arrested and gaoled for being homosexual, it’s a bit like a journey of discovery into love for Jeff and his two love interests – rock star Danny and fellow student Archie. It’s a very light hearted/rose coloured view of this time in history but the ending is just perfect!

EXCERPT
“Have you never had a girlfriend, Jeff?”
Jeff shook his head, hoping Danny would assume his abstinence was due to failure rather than choice. His pulse quickened as Danny walked toward him.
“We’ll have to do something about that, won’t we?”
“It’s not a problem.” Jeff stuttered the words, and his racing heart nearly stopped when Danny seized his clammy hand. “You need to learn how to slow dance, man.”
Jeff’s knees trembled so much he could barely stand as Danny slid his other hand round Jeff’s waist.
Danny’s voice was affably self-assured. “Now the young lady will expect you to take the lead, Jeff.”
“Oh yes?” They were the only words Jeff could extract from his brain.
“You hold her in your arms like this.” Danny pulled Jeff to him, his lean torso pressing against Jeff’s shirt. “You see?”
Jeff nodded. The proximity of Danny’s body now made speech impossible.
“Then you move your feet in time with the music. Just little steps like this.”
Danny’s thighs brushed against Jeff’s trousers as they shuffled around the wooden floor. Jeff was sure Danny must be able to feel the quivering in his muscles, the quickening of his breath, and the growing hardness in his underwear.
“And if you’re very lucky, she’ll nuzzle your neck, and her hair will tickle against your cheek.” Jeff held his breath as Danny’s faintly stubbled chin rested against his shoulder. He was certain he must be dreaming, but he’d never had a dream as vivid as this.
Danny’s biceps were hot against Jeff’s shirtsleeves, and his fingers tightly curled round Jeff’s hand. His tobacco-scented breath was warm against Jeff’s ear as he spoke. “That’s it, Jeff. You’ve got the hang of it. You’ll have those posh university girls eating out of your hand.”
Girls, posh or otherwise, were the furthest thing from Jeff’s mind when Danny pulled away slightly and smiled. Jeff had never seen a smile like it, or at least not outside of a cinema screen. Danny’s teeth were beautifully even and white, his lips the pink of a freshly picked plum, his eyes green and twinkling in the low light. Then the music stopped, and Jeff expected Danny to step away with a jokey comment about his dancing, but Danny stayed where he was, his face only inches away. Danny’s smile faded uncertainly, but he didn’t move away.

A Question of Honor
A Stormhaven Love Story
by Mona Karel
Mainstream (PG13) suspense
Black Opal Books

Sydney Castleton has worked hard to put her less than savory past behind her…until her sister asks for her help. Devin Starke has fought too many battles, seen too many deaths, to look forward to a peaceful future…until his best friend and partner asks him to help return the horse his wife, Sidney’s sister, took when she left.

Stormhaven, a ranch in northern New Mexico, has become a place for fighting men to readjust to the world, a sort of decompression chamber for those who have seen too much. Devin Starke is such a man. And Sydney isn’t far behind him.

Can a woman with a past find love with a man who thinks he has no future ?

A REVIEW
AYLOR JONES SAYS: "This book, like the others Karel has written, shows a depth of understanding of people and their relationships. You can’t help but root for her characters as they struggle to find their way through unique trials and tribulations. The story has a good strong plot that will keep you turning pages, but it’s the charming, heart-warming love story that will have you reading this one again and again."

EXCERPT
She knew that walk. With a slight hesitation in one leg, he prowled like a wounded predator, conditioned to succeed against the most dangerous game of all. Even limping, his reactions would be instantaneous, his balance superior. By itself, his body would be a weapon. He’d be the best man to have on your side in a battle. After the battle, he’d unwind with a drink and a woman. The drink would be strong and straight. The woman would be bosomy and not too bright. He’d very likely spend more time with the drink than the woman.
Sydney Castleton let her mind drift through bitter thoughts and buried memories as she waited for the man who proclaimed danger with every step he took toward her. He was no different from the men who’d worked with her father: soldiers of fortune, whose luck could run out at any minute.
What trouble had her sister gotten her into this time?

Excerpt
He came closer and the heady scent of his cologne invaded her senses, making her lightheaded. She sucked in a deep breath and tried to steady her pounding heart. Yep, a whole lotta trouble, here.A smart woman would walk away. She was a smart woman. She was.She didn’t move. Instead, she reached out and stroked his cheek. His soft skin made her fingertips tingle. His lips parted.Blood roared through her ears, drowning out reason. Want—no, need—raced through her. Rising up on her tiptoes, she brushed her lips over his.He pulled back and stared, probably as stunned by her action as she but before she had time to say anything, he crushed her against his strong, muscular body. His mouth moved over hers, devouring its softness.Wave after wave of pleasure crashed over her. The rational part of her brain begged her to stop this madness. She’d only met the man moments ago. But, oh my, the taste of his mouth and the feel of his hands in her hair and his citrusy scent—A sudden noise had her jerking away from him. Turning, she found Reed standing in the doorway.Max uttered a soft curse.Reed chuckled. “Well, it looks like you two have met so I’ll spare you the introduction.”

#MFRWauthor BOOK SPOTLIGHT: Ace's Key @AbbieStClaire

MFRW Author Abbie St. Claire released Ace's Key, an Erotic Romance, with Southern Ink Press on February 14, 2014.

A woman who knows men are good for nothing and all they do is cheat…

A man who knows his heart was given to only one love, his deceased wife, but still craves and promises pleasure…

Until trouble walks in his bar…

Alpha male Ace (Lucas) Giordano left Italy and his family behind when his beloved passed away. Women became toys that brought him pleasure. But a relationship was off the menu.

Mia Kennedy found more satisfaction in her job than in love and more stimulation from her toys than from her deadbeat boyfriend.

The last thing either of them believed was that they could enjoy more than just a good time, until they tried not to.

REVIEW
"Well what can I say after reading this scorching hot read! I’m speechless it was just wow! I know that when I read Christmas in July by this author I knew she had some amazing talent with her writing skills in the Erotic genre but after reading Ace and Mia’s story I have to say that Ms. St. Claire has gone over the top. I don’t even know where to start off but I do have to say that in a couple of scenes throughout this read my pulse was racing. (Monica Cardoza) Amazon Review

What can I say? Christmas in July roped me in, but Ace's Key held me captive. Two strong willed, set minds come together in the most unique way. (Mariela Bustos)

EXCERPT
“I like to have sex without complication between two people. I’m not looking for another wife.” “I’m not looking for anything. I caught my boyfriend of three years bangin’ his assistant in our apartment last week. It’s too early to even call it a rebound.” “That’s about him, not you. Don’t let him put that on you. Turn around.” I didn’t mind his commands or his control, so I turned around to face him. He pulled me onto his lap as water splashed over the walls of the tub. He kissed me passionately, reaching deep within the contours of my mouth with his tongue. The way he kissed left me breathless. Left my lips stinging with fire for more.  Left me limp. Left me dreamy. I wanted him again.

ABOUT Abbie St. Claire
I'm a Texan through and through. While I've lived in various parts of the state, Houston is home now, but Dallas is my favorite part of the state and Austin runs a close second. Let's hear it for the HORNS! The hubs and I enjoy having friends over and our place is kind-of a hangout...of sorts. We cook and entertain together.

I want my stories to excite the reader. I love it when readers reach out to me.

I have several things planned for 2014. Up first will be my series of Hook-Ups with Ace's Key, Booty Call and Consolation Prize. I'm launching a standalone novella series called The KISS ME SERIES. Each novella will be sure to deliver snarky or wild and zainey or erotic twist to romance and perhaps a combo of all of it. First up is KISS ME-MY ASS guaranteed to get the temperature up, if you know what I mean. Releasing June 17th. Followed by KISS ME-THERE and KISS ME-IN THE RAIN. There are over 20 books planned in this series.

I am also writing a story for a HOT SUMMER NIGHTS anthology releasing in August.

Stay tuned, 2014 is going to be full of love in all the right places.
