Meet MFRW Author Kryssie Fortune.

Kryssie grew up climbing trees and playing with imaginary dragons. She still loves dragons, and if she can sneak one into her books she will. Her pet hates are unhappy endings and books that end on a cliffhanger.

Kryssie's books are hot and explicit but the plot always comes before the sex. Since she writes erotic romance, she guarantees a happy ending. Visit her author website, author blog or facebook.

Can they share some Christmas magic as their relationship faces extortion threats, a kidnapping, and an attempted murder? Or will Jared break her heart when he walks away?

Abigail and Jared marry for mutual convenience, each unaware of the other’s BDSM lifestyle. Can love blossom despite extortion threats, kidnapping, and attempted murder?
EXCERPT
God, he wished she’d get on with it, but she studied the unopened menu as though her life depended on it. Finally, she lifted her head. “Are you married?”

His eyes narrowed. “Your advert said no ties. I’m single, HIV free, and I don’t screw anyone for cash.”

She choked on her drink, coughing and splattering water over the table. Jared watched and waited, unwilling to make it easier for her when she was the one who placed the advert.

Across the table from him, Abigail curled her hands into fists and laid them on her lap. Her smile faded and her voice trembled. “Will you marry me?”

“Are you pregnant?” he shot back.

Her cheeks turned scarlet. “No. In fact, I came on my period two days ago. But I do need a husband. I know I’m not what you imagined in a wife, but I’m willing to pay a $75,000 advance as well as house, feed, and clothe you for two years. After that, I’ll pay you another $150,000 when we divorce.”

He stared at her intently, trying to decide if she needed therapy—or perhaps a few weeks in the local insane asylum. “You’re serious?”

She took a sip of mineral water. “I am.”

His eyes narrowed, and his forehead furrowed in anger. “I’ll feed and clothe myself. Can I still put time in with my business, or should I get a job local to where you live?”

When she finally smiled, it felt as though the sun had come out on a cloudy day.

Putting her glass on the table, she took looked anywhere but at him. “I’m glad you want to do so. In fact, it’s one of the reasons I chose you. You have values and goals. All I have is an insane great-aunt, or I did until recently.”

“Tell me about it,” he demanded.

#MFRWauthor Book Spotlight: Stone and Shell @LloydAMeeker

Lloyd A. Meeker released Stone and Shell - A Solstice Tale!
Eight-year-old Howie Evinger is convinced that his dad would be happier if he found a new husband. Howie would be happier, too. And somewhere out there in the city of Vancouver, there's the right man for his dad to love. But how to find him? That’s a problem, especially if you’re just a kid and your dad says he doesn’t want another husband.

With the help of his quirky aunt who calls herself a Buddhist Wiccan, Howie builds his very own solstice altar with cool symbols to support his search. It has a candle, a feather and a twisty stick, plus an agate for his dad, and a scallop shell for his new husband. Share Howie’s solstice adventure as he learns how real magic requires courage and patience as well as symbols.
EXCERPT
Maybe the stone and the shell were too close to the candle. Howie wasn’t sure how this stuff worked. He studied his Solstice altar, made out of a wooden TV tray covered in a piece of dark green cloth. He felt nervous, like sitting in a surprise math test he hadn’t prepared for. He had dreams like that sometimes. He hated math.
If he left his objects too close together, would his wish cover enough territory? Vancouver was a big city. He pushed his glasses back up his nose and frowned. Shanna, who was really his aunt Shannon, even though she didn’t let him call her that, would know how it worked.
She’d taught him about symbols last week, which was a totally cool idea. Then she helped him build his Solstice altar and told him to place his symbols wherever he felt was right for them. The problem was he didn’t know how to place them so his wish, which sat like a giant lump inside him, would come true. It hadn’t occurred to him to ask her about placement rules for wishes.
Dad was working late tonight, and the house was a lot nicer when someone was home already. Back when his dad and Joel were together, they’d had a big Buddha statue, which was the first thing anybody saw when they came in the front door. It was like having a friend waiting for you to come home. Joel had taken it to Toronto with him, and the house felt different without it. He’d told Dad he didn’t mind that it wasn’t there anymore, but he actually did. He didn’t want to be a wuss and complain, though. His best friend, Ricky, was lucky. The Liu family had a gold Buddha set up in their house with all kinds of beautiful stuff around it, even incense. Howie liked the smell, but it made him sneeze sometimes.
Shanna would come soon, and he’d help her get dinner ready. Usually on Dad’s late days, all three of them would eat together, which was nice. It was lasagna tonight, Howie knew, because Dad had made it on the weekend and had frozen most of it for nights like this.
So when Shanna got there in a bit, he’d ask her how Solstice altars worked. She’d know what to do. She’d told him all about Druids and the Solstice and the Celts who were Howie’s ancestors. When he said he thought his grandparents were English, Shanna got a little mad and said just because someone is born in a barn, doesn’t mean he’s a horse. Howie didn’t get it entirely, but he’d stuck with being from the Celts after that.

ABOUT Lloyd A. Meeker
I’m a mystic, writer, healer, lover, cancer survivor, father, friend. I write (mostly) gay fiction featuring all those paths and more. Having led what can only be described as a checkered life, I can honestly say I’m grateful for all of it. I’ve been a minister, an office worker, a janitor, a drinker, and a software developer on my way to finishing my first novel in 2004. But basically I’m just a weather-worn psychic empath still learning how to live in the world just the way it is. The thing is, I experience the world as so much more than is generally accepted. That’s the challenge. Writing stories is the best way I’ve found to examine and share the questions, the wonders I engage daily.

My husband and I have been together since 2002, married since 2007. Between us we have four children and five grandchildren. We're based in south Florida, and work hard to keep up with the astonishing life we've created for ourselves.

All About SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY @FrancesOThomas #MFRWauthor

Welcome MFRW Author Fran Thomas.
Fran Thomas was born in Pittsburgh. She never intended to live in Florida, but Fate had other plans for her. She resides with her husband on an island in the Gulf of Mexico and spends her time observing its quirky denizens and their antics. Visit her website or find her on pinterest.

She's recently released Southern Hospitality: Book Two of Calusa Town Tales. Here's what she says about her creative process...
Just like Kate in Southern Hospitality, I moved to a barrier island in Florida from Pittsburgh. And like her, I was a fish out of water. After living here a few years, I began writing a column for the local newspaper, highlighting the quirky personalities and colorful social events of the residents. As I grew to know more and more people, I finally felt like I belonged. Eventually I became the editor of that newspaper and gained even more experiences with the opinionated and vocal people who call this home.

When I decided to write fiction, I had plenty of material to draw from. I've changed the name of the town and modified the geography to suit my own purposes. But I hope I have retained the caring qualities of the people who live in what I now call home. Southern Hospitality is Book Two of the Calusa Town Tales series. I will be beginning Book Three very soon.

Dave Morissey is still friends with every woman he's ever dated--and there have been quite a few. He doesn't believe in permanent relationships, but he's more than willing to add a leggy redhead to his list of temps. Kate Schubert is a woman on a mission. EXCERPT
Kate Schubert sighed. Loudly. She attempted to stride through the South Florida Airport pulling her animal-print carry on behind her. Her progress, however, was blocked on every side by her fellow passengers arriving from Pittsburgh. Giggling school children on summer vacation bounced alongside slow-moving, silver-haired senior citizens. Two or three middle-aged men shucked lightweight suit jackets and loosened ties as they ambled down the concourse. Would it be too much to ask that they speed it up?
The concourse dead-ended at an escalator rumbling downwards. At the foot of the escalator, Kate made a sharp right towards baggage claim. Near the stilled carousel, a man holding a cardboard sign with her name printed on it slouched in a plastic chair.
Kate approached him. “I’m Kate Schubert.”
The man took a quick inventory from her red hair pulled back in a severe pony tail down through her head-to-toe black outfit and back up again.
He grinned. “Welcome to Florida. I’m Dave.”
He began to unfurl himself from the chair. When he was fully upright, Kate had to look up into his eyes. That was a rarity. She stood nearly six feet tall in bare feet. In the three inch heels she favored, she towered over most men. She had learned to use what had been a drawback in high school to her advantage. Unintimidated, she returned the man’s stare. His grin faded.
“Let’s see about getting your other luggage,” Dave said.
A bell sounded, and the carousel lurched to life. A mishmash of luggage tumbled down a chute and slowly revolved until hauled off by a hand shooting out from the gathered crowd. Kate pointed out her matching bag, and Dave hefted it easily.
“You travel pretty light,” he said. “I was expecting more suitcases, so I borrowed Seth’s SUV.”
“I shipped the rest,” she said. Her brow puckered.  “So you work for Mr. Connor, er, Seth?”
“In a manner of speaking.”
Kate fell into step beside the tall man. What job could he possibly have at the new hotel she’d been hired to manage? The baggy cargo shorts, flowered shirt, and flip flops he wore weren’t much to recommend him. The only thing he had going for him was his impressive physique. Well, that and eyes a startling turquoise against his tanned face.
“What exactly do you do?” she asked.
“This and that.”
“Not too ambitious, are we?”
Dave shrugged. “Ambition’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Nice use of the royal ‘we’ by the way.”
When the electric doors slid open, a blast of warm, moist air hit Kate in stark contrast to the highly air conditioned building. So this is what Florida felt like. After they left the terminal, Dave led her across the street and into the parking garage. He stowed both her bags in the trunk of the car and then attempted to open the passenger door.
Kate beat him to it. “I can open my own door.”
“Just because you can doesn’t always mean you should.” Dave circled the vehicle and climbed into the driver’s seat.
“I’d rather depend on myself,” Kate said.
“Yes, ma’am. I can see that.”

Great read! Absolutely would recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great second chance romance!
By Jill Blake on December 2, 2016
Format: Kindle Edition
I loved this book! Beau and Jenna were very likable characters, and their romance was beautifully paced. I especially enjoyed seeing Jenna go from passive and helpless victim of her father's (and later her fiancé's) manipulation to learning how to stand up for herself. Ultimately, she's the one who fights for her relationship with Beau, finding solutions to what seems like an overwhelming series of obstacles. If you're looking for a quick, well-written second chance romance, pick up this charming debut by Robin Michaela.
~An advance review copy of the book was provided by the author.~

EXCERPT
Jenna shook back her wet hair, rung out the hem of her dripping shirt, and turned a pink shoulder toward Beau. “I’m going to look like a lobster tomorrow,” she said, pulling down the strap of her tank top.

He bent and kissed her exposed skin gently. The soft scratch of his beard reignited her earlier desire. A little frisson of pleasure slid through her and she placed a hand on his chest. “You know, Beau, I’m very, very wet right now,” she drawled, her voice thick with double meaning.

“Hmmm, then we need to get you out of these damp clothes right away.” Beau nipped and licked his way across her shoulder and up her neck, then teased her sensitive earlobe with a flick of his tongue.

She caught his hand in hers. “How far is our hotel room?”

“Not nearly as close as I’d like.”

Curious Incidents with #MFRWauthor Liese Sherwood-Fabre @LSFabre

Curious Incidents: More Improbable Adventures of Sherlock Holmes--Second Anthology
by Liese Sherwood-Fabre
with Mocha Memoirs Press
Sherlock Holmes is one of the most recognizable characters in Western literature.  Conan Doyle’s inimitable detective has been the subject of literally thousands of books, movies, television shows, plays and even songs. In Curious Incidents: More Improbable Adventures, 15 authors of horror and mystery come together to create a unique anthology that sets Holmes and Watson on some of their most terrifying adventures. They face an amazing array of cases involving murder, mayhem, and mystery with a supernatural twist.

This time the great detective and his stalwart companion will venture into alternate universes, histories, and futures to solve puzzling cases of the paranormal beyond the bounds of imagination.

EXCERPT
"The Case of the Tainted Blood”
The epidemic arrived from the Continent in 1889, and a year later, our world shifted on its axis, plunging survivors into a nocturnal, feral existence. Had it not been for a peculiar turn of events one spring evening in 1891, that world might have consumed both Holmes and myself.

We were both involved in the change from the beginning, although we didn’t recognize it at first. As a medical doctor, I was called in to treat a number of extreme anemia cases, which all led to general organ failure and death. While I responded to medical emergencies, Holmes assisted in the investigation of a series of quite gruesome murders involving ripped throats, but a complete lack of blood in the victim or the surrounding scene.

And no one was immune from infection or attack.

I sent Mary to the country early on to avoid the illness’s rapid spread. Two weeks after seeing her off, I received a chatty letter from her, giving no hint of illness, and a telegram an hour later informing me of her death from rapid-onset anemia. At the time, I considered my inability to protect her my greatest failure.

Of course, events soon overwhelmed the medical and law enforcement communities, and many fell victim to the infection themselves. When Inspector Lestrade called on us a few weeks after Mary’s demise and provided a full explanation of the disease, we were forced to make a decision—survival or death. A year later, I wondered if we had made the appropriate choice.

Vampyre.

The name dredged up images of an all-consuming and soul-less thirst, but the true transformation was to society itself. At the beginning of the epidemic, an ample supply of humans existed. Over time, however, the scales tipped and alternative sources developed as the human population faded from this earth. Animals were no longer kept for their meat—only for their blood.

My friend foresaw the inevitable near-extinction of all mammals and had cleverly captured his own stock of rats to maintain his and my existence. But survival is not always living.

ABOUT Liese Sherwood-Fabre
Best-selling author Steve Berry has praised Liese Sherwood-Fabre’s work as "gimmick-free, old-fashioned storytelling,” and her current story of Holmes and Watson’s adventure of solving the mystery of a murdered vampyre is no exception. She holds a PhD from Indiana University and currently works for the US government. An award-winning author, her pieces have appeared in national magazines and a collection of short stories and a novella are available through all major on-line retailers. An avid Sherlockian, she is a member of several scions and a monthly contributor to more than fifteen Sherlockian newsletters.

Hearts Landing by #MFRWauthor @JaniceCroom1 A #Holiday Romance

MFRW author Janice Croom announces her newest release!

Hearts Landing
Keziah Steelman has to convince the small town of Hearts Landing to approve construction of Galaxy Corporation's mega casino. Since the town has lost its major employer, it should be an easy sell.

Unstoppable force meets immovable object in the person of Ric Hudson, Christian leader of the opposition. Armed with handmade posters and mimeographed fliers, Ric seems woefully lacking to take on Galaxy.

But so did David against Goliath. Although Keziah views Christianity as a flawed belief system, she grew up in a Christian home and doesn't underestimate the threat posed by a true believer. Her plan: go to Hearts Landing, masquerade as a tourist, infiltrate the opposition and destroy it from within.

Keziah left the Lord in her past. Secrets from Ric's past threaten to destroy his future. Can the hearts of this unlikely couple land in a love only God can give?
EXCERPT
Every time Keziah walked through the doors of Galaxy Casino’s corporate offices, she could almost taste the money. The lobby recreated the interior of the Sistine Chapel, right down to the fresco paintings on its twelve thousand square foot vaulted ceiling, with one major difference. Where Michelangelo honored God, Galaxy honored money.

Instead of a literal reproduction of Adam and Eve’s expulsion from the Garden of Eden, Nathanial Radner III, president and CEO of Galaxy, expelled his two lowest performers.
Christ and his disciples at the Last Supper became Nate seated with his top twelve revenue producers for the year. Known collectively as the wall of shame and the wall of fame, employees vied all year to avoid the former and earn their seat at the latter’s most exclusive of tables.

In two weeks, at the company’s New Year’s Eve party, Nate would unveil the wall’s newest members. From her first day at Galaxy, Keziah dreamed of being immortalized as one of Nate’s disciples. After ten years, it looked like her dream might finally come true. That she’d become the first African-American and one of only a handful of women who’d made the wall was a bonus.

Keziah; Jake, Keziah’s assistant; and Nate were in Nate’s office overlooking the Las Vegas strip. They sat around the inlaid-wood conference table for their weekly meeting on Hearts Landing, Galaxy’s newest casino project. Pulling this off would earn Keziah her rightful place on the wall.

She’d just finished the financial projections—which looked better every time she ran them—and was gathering her things to leave when Nate stopped her. “Tell me you have this SOT under control,” he said.

To have something under control you had to know what it was. Business had all kinds of acronyms: ROI, EBIT, EOD. She didn’t have a clue what SOT was.

Twisting her engagement ring, she hoped the action would somehow switch on her brain. This was just like her recurring nightmare in business school where she’d show up to take a test and not only didn’t know any of the answers, she couldn’t even read the questions. There would be no waking up from this nightmare. This was happening in real time.

Jake’s smirk showed he knew what SOT was. That it wasn’t some arcane acronym she’d forgotten from B-school. It was some important aspect of Hearts Landing. Something Nate would expect her to be totally on top of.

ABOUT Janice Croom
Janice Croom is the author of the Kadence MacBride mysteries and Holiday with Love Romances. She initially studied fiction techniques to improve her non-fiction writing. Given an assignment to write the first chapter of a novel, Janice read hers aloud. The class applauded and the teacher asked, “What happens next?”

“The assignment was to write the first chapter, not what happened next,” Janice said, so she had no idea. By the end of the class, Janice wanted to know what happened next. That quest, to tell her character’s stories, to learn what happens next, drives her as a writer.

Where Does #MFRWauthor @CailinBriste Get Her Story Ideas? @LooseID

MFRW author Cailin Briste shares how she gets her story ideas.
For years, I’ve been expecting features of the Jetson’s lifestyle, a cartoon family from my childhood, to appear in my life. Where is my robot maid? Where is my flying car? And above all where is my food replicator? I’m still waiting, but that hasn’t stopped my love of science fiction or science possibility.

My mind is full of futuristic ideas from the many books, movies and television shows I’ve devoured for several decades. The future has yet to be written, except by those of us who like to play with “what ifs.” I’m a big time “what iffer.”

My first novel was created as an answer to the following question: What would happen to alpha men on a matriarchal planet where the women are not Dommes in the strictest sense but have the attitude down pat? Shane’s struggles in Shane: Marshal of Tallav were the result. As his story unfolded in my mind, another “what if” defined the main female character. What if girls born on their new planet developed empathic senses? And so, Adrianna became an empath.

Shane’s story is just one possibility on a female-run planet. Maon’s story came next in Maon: Marshal of Tallav. He’s an alpha male marshal, whose preference in the bedroom is to submit to a sexy Domme.

The third book in the series, Rand: Son of Tallav is still being written. If anything, Rand has bigger problems than Shane or Maon. He’s not only an alpha male but also a sadist and owner of a BDSM club, a pariah on his home planet Tallav.

Each of these books began with that initial “what if”. Characters come knocking on the door of mind, and I throw them into the Tallavan setting, typing madly as their stories unfold.

Cailin's latest book is Maon: Marshal of Tallav, a Sci-Fi/Futuristic Erotic Romance, with Loose Id.
Maon Keefe has always been told he’s doomed to fail as a husband. He decides never to marry instead focusing on living life as a player and becoming a capable marshal of Tallav. When he is shot and the most-wanted criminal he’s escorting escapes, he fears that his career, his one success in life, is doomed. Assigned to ferret out the cause of missing shipments for a VIP aristocrat, he meets Selina Shirley CEO of the House of Shirley. He finds himself inexplicably attracted to her despite her frumpy appearance. When he meets a hooded and masked, scorching hot Domme, Lasair, at his friend’s BDSM club, he’s torn between the two women. Both fire his imagination and call to his submissive nature. Either might be the woman to change him into successful husband material.

Maon Keefe has always embraced the player lifestyle, until he discovers a mysterious Domme who brings him to his knees.
EXCERPT
The underlying frisson of unease that always attended Selina in space was sliding up and down her spine. But the churning in her stomach, while she walked along the companionway from the private ship docks, wasn’t caused by her fear of space. Her father’s death over a year ago had cemented a number of things in her mind. One was the need to acquire a husband. Knowledge that she was on the marriage market would set in motion the machinations of the aristocratic mamas of Tallav—some because of her wealth and others for the connection. She wrinkled her nose. Not going that route.
Her Domme lessons with Randolph were the initial step in a concise plan to find her perfect husband. Emphasis on her. Implementing that plan was the root of her anxiety, akin to the strain of her first business negotiation for the House of Shirley.
A couple, the woman tipping along in platform heels, were cuddling and cooing while they walked toward Selina. She averted her face, seeing but not really taking in the concourse bar she was approaching. Then her gaze met a stranger’s, and for an interminable moment, his eyes ensnared hers. She blinked, and the spell was broken. His lips moved in a smirk while he continued to stare at her.
Damn playboy.
When she yanked her head away, the oversize art case slipped down her arm, the strap tangling in her long dark hair. Rather than stop to fix the problem, she kept walking while struggling to release the strands that were pulling painfully on her scalp. Portfolio back in position, she sped up.
That man was the exact opposite of her ideal mate, although he was Tallavan. The string tie he wore made his Tallavan citizenship a possibility, but the badge clipped to his belt settled it. He was a Tallavan marshal. Despite his tousled sandy-brown locks that were made to comb through and pull, he wouldn’t make the cut on her very exacting list of requirements. Even before he’d smirked at her, it was apparent he was a player. He’d been sitting still on a bar stool, but swagger oozed from his pores. His navy-blue eyes were full of a boldness that reached out to her and offered her more fun than she could imagine.
What the heck are you thinking, Selina? He’s a snack and nothing more.

#MFRWauthor Book Spotlight: The Gift by Casi McLean

The Gift
Destiny Series
by Casi McLean

Savanna Bradford's brief sabbatical didn't include getting stuck in a ditch in the middle of nowhere, or spending the night with an enigmatic old woman from the twilight zone. Was it fate, or did her accident thrust her into a comatose dream? The mystical gift from her bizarre encounter holds the secret to her true destiny. Will she discover the key before it's too late?

REVIEWS
Award-winning Destiny, was a winner in the AWC writing contest.
Judges’ comments:
At first the story reels you into what appears to be a formula romance. Then it turns the genre on its head, throwing a perfectly aimed, delightful curveball at the surprising and satisfying ending. The writer doesn't rush any part of the story, letting the reader see, hear, and feel the magical eeriness of one fateful night.
Customer Review:
What is really important in life? Love? Money? Your Job? This story answers the question perfectly. It’s not just a nice Christmas Story, but rather a life lesson. “The Gift” that is appropriately named. Casi’s words themselves are gifts to readers of all genres. She is on my watch list. Whatever she publishes, I’ll read. She is definitely an up-and-coming tale weaver.

The Gossip of an Earl
by Linda Rae Sande

xtra! Extra! Read all about it ...

The Earl of Fennington has a secret identity—that of Mr. Pepperidge, editor of London's premiere gossip rag, The Tattler. While attending a garden party as Fennington, he meets and falls in love with Lady Emelia. The attraction is mutual, for despite knowing better, she allows him to kiss her behind a hedgerow. Who will know but them?

Why, Mr. Pepperidge, of course! Desperate to spend more time with Emelia, Fennington employs a bit of blackmail to force Emelia to meet with him once a week. Disguised as Pepperidge, he insists she provide him the on-dit she hears. That, or he'll print the news of her kiss in The Tattler!

With mistaken identities ruling the reports in The Tattler and a new Gossip Goddess sharing news of obscure aristocrats, is it any wonder the members of the ton love to hate gossip? Or do they really love The Gossip of an Earl?

EXCERPT
“I have no intention of leaving you alone tonight.”

Pulled from her reverie by the odd statement, Jane stared at Andrew. “Oh?” was all she could think to say.

Andrew allowed a chuckle. “I do hope I haven’t scandalized you, my sweeting.”

My sweeting.

Goodness, they had just become reacquainted after eighteen years, and he was already using an endearment only suitable for couples who were ...

Lovers.

Jane inhaled sharply. Is that what Andrew Burroughs intended? To make her his mistress? To offer carte blanche?

“Oh, Christ, I have scandalized you,” he said with a roll of his eyes. He straightened in the squabs and gave a quick shake of his head. “I apologize, my lady. It’s not my intention to take liberties, nor to ...”

“I am rather flattered, actually,” Jane interrupted with a shake of her head. “No one has ever called me ‘sweeting’. Not even my husband, but then I suppose you already knew that.” This last was said in a quieter voice, as if she realized her place in her husband’s life was well known to others.

How many women in the ton knew of her despair at being left alone for months at a time as her late husband spent all his time away from London? He was only ever at their mansion in Westminster when Parliament was in session, and even then, he spent most of the time when he wasn’t in the House of Lords at his club, Boodles.

“I did not,” Andrew said with a shake of his head. He sighed and was about to say something else when the coach suddenly halted.

EXCERPT
Jake nodded, but all he could concentrate on were
Penny’s last words before the officer appeared. When
they were alone again, he threw up his hands. “What do
you mean, go back to Phoenix? Why the hell would I
do that?”
She turned her back on him, went to the open door
of the bathroom, and lifted her clothes from the hook.
Beneath the thin, hospital gown her spine was straight,
her movements tight, as if coiled and ready to spring.
“Penny, I know how much she meant to you.” How
much she meant to both of them. He wanted to hold
her, share their loss. “I’m not leaving you.”
Untying the gown, she let it drop around her feet,
and sidestepped out of the heap. She pulled the dark
gray sweater over her head then stepped into black
velvet jeans, refusing to make eye contact or speak as
she sat on the green plastic chair.
This was killing him. The need to hold her, help
her with her pain—his pain—rushed through him.
Haltingly, he made his way to her, touched her head,
and waited while she zipped her boots. “Penny.” She
resisted, but he tipped her chin, forcing her to look up.
“Come on, baby. You don’t have to worry about me
leaving you.”
“You will.”
“No—”
“When I tell you the truth, you will.”

#MFRWauthor Holiday Book: The Marquess and the Midwife: A #Christmas Novella @AlinaKField

The Marquess and the Midwife
by MFRW Author Alina K. Field

Once upon a time, the younger brother of a marquess fell in love with his sister's companion. He was sent off to war, and she was just sent off, and they both landed in very different worlds.

Now Virgil Radcliffe has returned from his self-imposed exile on the Continent to take up his late brother's title and discover the whereabouts of the only woman he's ever loved.

Abandoned by her lover and dismissed by her employer, Ameline Dawes has found a respectable identity as a Waterloo widow, a new life as a midwife, and a safe, secure home for her twin girls.

Called to London at Christmas to attend her benefactress's lying-in, she finds herself confronted by an unexpected house guest--a man determined to woo her anew and win her again.

But, is loving the new Marquess of Wallingford a mistake Ameline cannot afford to repeat?
EXCERPT
She knelt before him on the sofa, yanked the shirt down his arms, and studied his chest. Small cuts marked his side and his belly, but the mottled scar was the worst. It would have taken months to fully heal a wound like this from the inside out.
Her vision blurred so she couldn’t see. But her hands, trained to examine a babe in the womb, they could see. She flattened her palms and set a course over the ridges knots, and hard ripples.
He surely had almost died. A world without Virgil, without his laughter, and his generally kind heart. He’d used her, true, as men did. It was in a man’s animal nature, wasn’t it? And she’d used him also, hadn’t she? Both of them grieving over his sister’s death, and comforting each other. And she was left with her girls, and things had turned out all right, hadn’t they?
Her hands cupped his shoulders and slipped over to his back. No scars there that she could feel. The ball, or saber, or…what else did men use to kill each other?…had not gone clean through. It had merely dredged a hole in his front and wreaked havoc inside him.
And nearly killed him.
She’d always pictured a wounded Virgil, binding up a minor slash and heading off to the Continent, maybe taking a wife there himself, and bringing her back to breed pretty, cheerful children. Virgil, rich, content and happy.
How she’d wallowed in that vision.
The feel of the scarred skin melted away her resentment. Let him have that happy life.
“Ameline.” Virgil’s breath touched her cheek.
Large hands cupped both of her hips.
Warmth spurted through her. Too late, she realized her error. She’d got too close again.
She pulled the sides of his shirt up, her gaze sliding over the rip and…
Right. He was fully erect.
Hot need shrieked inside her, and she battered it down and found her breath. “I apologize. My infernal curiosity.” She patted his shoulders and eased away.
His eyes had gone dark and feral, his lips parted like a hungry man ready to chomp down on a long-awaited meal. Inside, she melted more.
She took in a great breath. She must keep him talking. “How did the wound happen?” she asked.
His eyes shuttered and he yanked her hard against him, smashing his lips to hers.

Book Spotlight: DEATH CHANT @VellaCMunn #MFRWauthor

Death Chant
by Vella Munn
with Totally Bound Publishing

BLURB
When her mentor disappears, Winter follows his trail to the Pacific Northwest, where the untamed wilderness is beautiful…and hides deadly secrets.
Anthropologist Winter Barstow knows nothing of her past or ethnic heritage and tells herself it doesn’t matter. Everything changes when Doc, her mentor, sends her an authentic ceremonial wolf mask from Olympic National Forest. The mask calls to her in ways she can’t understand or explain.
Then Doc disappears. Determined to find him and discover the mask’s origin, she travels to the mysterious, awe-inspiring forest where she’s confronted by Native American ranger Jay Raven, who has no love for Doc.
The deeper Winter digs into her mentor’s disappearance, the more alarming things become. She begins to hear a mysterious wolf’s howl…even when no one else does.
Jay warns Winter to leave, but she owes Doc and herself the truth.
And even though it goes against everything he has promised his tribe’s elders, Jay can’t walk away from Winter. Not only has a spirit wolf reached out to her, but he also suspects she’s in terrible danger…and his growing feelings for her are too strong to ignore.
Amazon REVIEW
I really enjoy this author's Native American books. She obviously always does her homework, because her descriptions of the location (in this case Olympic National Park in Washington State) and the tribe (the Hoh) are rich and vivid. The main plot involves a woman anthropologist struggling to find herself and her place in the world, while she discovers her own true nature and the reality of the spirit realm. The concurrent love story between the seeker and the Native park ranger sizzles with intensity and just the right amount of spice. The spiritual elements were my favorite parts. If you enjoy Native adventures and transformational romance tales, blended with a little supernatural, you'll love Vella Munn's books. Recommended read.

EXCERPT
Turning from the mask, she dug through the wrapping for a note, but she found nothing. Suddenly weary, she pulled her cell phone out of the backpack that served as her purse and sank into her recliner. Cell phones were frowned on at the California university where she worked as an administrative support assistant, despite her newly-minted master’s in anthropology. She turned it on then realized she had a message.
It had better be from the man who’d given her equal parts encouragement and lectures about doing something with her life. According to the automated voice, he’d called this morning.
“Where are you?” Doc started. “Winter, this has to be between the two of us. You’re the only one I can trust.”
Trust? What was this about? She shivered.
“I need you up here as soon as possible. There’s—I can hardly bring myself to speak the words. I’m onto something beyond incredible. Something I believe is worth the risk I took. The danger.”
“What are you saying?” she barely got out.
“It’ll change our lives. Place our stamp on everything anthropology stands for. Make Wilheim doubly sorry I got the grant instead of him. Call me. But first take a good long look at it. The mask dates back to early fur trading days.”
She gasped. No, it couldn’t. The elements would have destroyed it.
“Wilheim’s going to give you hell when you tell him you’re bailing on him, but I can’t do this alone. I shouldn’t say you owe me but, if that’s what it takes, I’ll play the card.”
Praying he’d continue, she strained to listen, but all she heard was dead air. Feeling cold, she sat straighter and replayed the message. This time, she concentrated more on his emotion and less on the words. Fought to ignore the electrical charge racing through her. In the nearly ten years she’d known him, he’d never sounded anywhere near this agitated. Doc was a tenured university professor, not some kid opening Christmas presents.
No, he wasn’t Christmas morning excited. More like overwhelmed. Scared. Out of his element.
Scared? Damn it, she didn’t want that for him.
Doc was right. She owed him a great deal. Alone in the world, yearning to belong, to understand, she’d snuck into his lecture hall. Instead of kicking her out, he’d seen through her emotional shields to the hungry-for-knowledge teen she’d been. Once he’d won her trust—no easy task—he’d helped her get several scholarships, a part-time job on campus, a roof over her head. A reason for existing.
She called him, but the phone went right to voice mail. Swayed by his cautions, she didn’t leave a message.
When Doc had been preparing to leave, he’d made sure she had several ways of getting in touch with him, including the number for Potlatch, the employee-only park camp where he had his field office. She punched in the Potlatch number. As she waited for someone to answer, she debated how to best frame her reason for calling. Doc and she worked for the same California university system, albeit far from the same place in the pecking order. She could—
“Potlatch. Ranger Jay Raven speaking.”
She couldn’t remember Doc mentioning anyone named Raven. “I’m trying to reach Dr. Anthony Gilsdorf.”
Silence. That was odd. Had they been disconnected? “Can you hear me?” she asked. “I’m trying—”
“I heard you.”
Thrown off balance by what might be the man’s hostility, she struggled to concentrate. Jay Raven hadn’t said whether or not he knew Doc, but what if he did and the relationship wasn’t friendly? Doc had been disappointed by the local Native Americans’ refusal to help him. Much as she wanted to tell the man about everything Doc had done for her, now wasn’t the time. It never would be.

#MFRWauthor Holiday Book Spotlight: A Regency Yuletide @BeckyLower1

A Regency Yuletide
by Becky Lower
Historical Romance with Sass

After a disappointing season in London, Sophie Davenport returns home without a marriage proposal, which she doesn’t mind. However, her mother and her uncle do mind, and set about getting Sophie married to the vicar’s son. When Jeremy Wyatt wanders into their lives, Sophie wonders whether a loveless marriage is what she wants, and Jeremy begins to question his lifestyle. It takes Christmas, and mistletoe, to upend their lives.

EXCERPT
Being of good English stock, Sophie Davenport loved the rain. At least most of the time, since it made the rolling hills of Carlisle a pretty, bucolic green in the summer. Today however, she took her knitting to the window seat in the library and gazed into the darkening countryside while her fingers flew, making stitches from the fine wool. It had been raining for days now, which, in and of itself, was not an uncommon event during the month of December. But this afternoon the gloom settled over her as if it were a heavy blanket. She had lost so much time by trotting to London for her first season on the marriage mart at the insistence of her Uncle Harry, that she was unable to tend to her gardens and her charitable pursuits this year. He had hoped to foist Sophie off to a gentleman of means, so he could be rid of both Sophie and her mother.

The season had been an abysmal failure, at least in Mother’s eyes. And in the eyes of Uncle Harry, since Sophie had returned home empty-handed. Not one man had danced with her unless you counted pimply-faced Freddie, her cousin, who had done so out of family duty rather than real interest. Sophie, however, breathed a sigh of relief at returning home without sparking the interest of a gentleman, since the men of the Ton were, for the most part, more interested in their own appearances than in hers. If she had to cast her fortunes in with someone, it would most certainly not be with a man who had a larger wardrobe than she.

Book Spotlight: RIP CORD The Reunion and the Weekend @JeanneStJames #MFRWauthor

Rip Cord: The Reunion & The Weekend
by Jeanne St. James

The Reunion:
Gil Davis hated high school. Ever the geek, he has no intentions of attending his 10th year class reunion. The last thing he wants is to relive the taunting and teasing he received during his teenage years. However there is one thing he misses from high school: the star Varsity football player. The one he had a crush on from the first day he laid eyes on him. But the last thing he expects is the now pro football player to come back to their home town to attend a lame high school reunion. Known as the Bad Boy of the NFL, Ripley “Rip” Cord, not only shows up, but shows up without a date and an eye for Gil.
The last thing Gil expects is the now pro football player to come back to their home town to attend a lame high school reunion. Known as the Bad Boy of the NFL, Ripley “Rip” Cord, not only shows up, but shows up without a date and an eye for Gil.

EXCERPT
Ripley “Rip” Cord was just as tall as Gil remembered. Around five inches taller than him, not that Gil was a squirt. The football player was at least six foot two.

And every inch of him was muscle. Not lean muscle, but heavy muscle. Heavy, rounded, lickable muscle.

Gil glanced at Katie. “You’re drooling.”

Katie wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. “As if you aren’t.”

Gil snagged her wrist and backpedaled until he rammed into something hard. It was the table with the place settings.

Gil peered over Katie’s shoulder to see if his klutziness had caught Rip’s attention.

Luckily it hadn’t. The man was completely surrounded by their old classmates clamoring for his attention.

Throughout the years, he’d followed Rip’s career in the newspapers, on the evening news, on ESPN.

And in the tabloids.

Rip was well-known. Unfortunately it was as the “bad boy” of the National Football League. He started out with a great career in the NFL, drafted straight out of college. He was one of the best wide receivers in the league, but it was all his rumored problems that kept him in the spotlight, not his stats.

And that famous wide receiver was here. Now.

#Historical Book Spotlight: Darcy's Hope by #MFRWauthor Ginger Monette

Darcy's Hope ~ Beauty from Ashes
A WW1 Pride & Prejudice Variation
by MFRW Author Ginger Monette

Escape to the era of Downton Abbey and experience all the drama of World War 1 alongside Jane Austen's iconic Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy.

Watch their tender love unfold as they learn to work together and reconcile their differences at a Belgian field hospital only miles from the bloody front lines of battle.

REVIEWS
Austen's Pride & Prejudice meets Downton Abbey. - books2read reviewer

I absolutely loved this book. …. I will definitely re-read this one! 5 stars for me! - goodreads reviewer

This story… immediately pulled me in… - goodreads reviewer

EXCERPT
Darcy sighed. Despite the harsh words between them, something inside him still stretched towards Elizabeth. It was more than her fine eyes, pretty face, and pleasing figure.

He sipped his coffee, stealing another glance at her. Elizabeth was also intelligent, passionate, sharp-tonged, quick-tempered, stubborn—maybe even pig-headed...just like him. He froze. That was it. That was why he was drawn to her like a moth to a flame. She was his perfect mate—er, match. He shifted in the bed, replacing the cup now trembling in his hand.

But if their conversation in the last few minutes held any indication of their future association, clearly they were doomed.

Bah! What difference did it make? He’d determined not to allow his heart to be plundered again. He narrowed his gaze, clenching his teeth and fist while repeating to himself, no comrade, no dog, and no woman!

What a truly SAILORRIFIC story! This is one ABSO-LOVING-LUTELY story that entranced me from the start with its DELIGHTFUL & BABYTACULAR storytelling!! EXCERPT
“I’ve never seen you at a party before. I thought you were a good little girl.” His teasing voice sent thrills throughout her body.“Today’s my birthday.” Isabelle snuggled closer to him. His body seemed to surround hers.“So, does that make you legal today?”Isabelle nodded vigorously then groaned. Her head swam from the movement. Maybe, just maybe she’d had a bit much to drink. Lee would take care of her though. He’d promised.“But not legal for drinking yet.”Isabelle pouted then sniffed.“So what? Most of the people here aren’t twenty-one.”“Doesn’t make it right.”Isabelle craned her head around to look at him. Surprised at the hard note in his voice.“But you’ve been drinking since you were in high school.”“Again, doesn’t make it right. So, you decided to cut loose now that you’re an adult?”The small smirk at the side of his mouth fascinated her. Somehow the tip of her finger made its way there. His lips were strong but soft, warm against the softness of her finger. The scruff around his mouth prickled her finger as he rubbed his face against it.“Don’t play with fire, little girl.” He nipped the tip of her finger as he winked at her, sending a zing through her body.Isabelle giggled. Normally she thought herself out of Lee’s league, but tonight that didn’t bother her in the least. She’d had too many jello shots to care. Snuggled in his arms, his hands on her affected her more than any bit of alcohol could. Combining them gave her a warm glow.Isabelle wiggled, the trail of his fingertips tickling her neck and circling her ear. She could feel her nipples tightening, glad for her push up bra. It made her boobs look fabulous, but was thick enough to hide her body’s reaction.

“Why would I arrest you?” He’d had Burg check her out and knew that she wasn’t guilty of anything illegal. He still couldn’t figure out why she wouldn’t tell him her real name.
“Parking tickets,” she whispered.
“Tickets?” He put his hands on his hips and looked at the ceiling. “You mean this whole time you wouldn’t tell me your name because you’ve got unpaid tickets?”
She nodded, looking miserable.
“Jesus, Tessa.” He took a step toward her. “Your place is trashed and you’re worried about parking tickets?” He crouched down to look in her face.
A lone tear slid down her cheek.
He scrubbed his hands over his face and through his hair, then moved closer, gearing himself to comfort her with a pat on the back. Instead, before he knew it, she’d thrown herself into him and he found his arms full of soft, quivering woman. She made a noise that sounded like a muffled sob.
“Aw, hell. Please don’t cry.” His gut twisted. “I swear I’m not going to arrest you. They’re just fucking parking tickets, hon.”
“I’ve had a very, very bad day!” She sobbed into his shirt.
He pulled her to a nearby armchair and sat down, adjusting her in his lap. Now what? He did not do crying women.
At a loss for how to stop her tears, he clumsily rubbed her back. “Tell me about your day. Get it all out.”
“First I had to dress like a giant hooker light bulb, then I lost my clothes!” She lifted her head and sniffled. “And I had to wear this!” She gestured to her skirt. “And then… And then…” She gulped air. “I couldn’t find my car and got chased through a dark parking lot!” Tears streamed down her face. “I lost my shoooe!” She pressed her face into his chest.
“When did you lose your shoe, honey?” Gray continued rubbing her back.
“When I hit the scary guy with it in the stairwell.” She clutched at Gray’s shirt. “I… I… hid… and…” She gasped. “I hit him when he grabbed me.” She burrowed deeper into his shoulder. “And I…was…really scared!”
“I know,” he murmured.
“All I wanted to do was come home and go to bed.” With her face pressed against him, her voice was muffled. “I can’t even do that!” She took a deep breath. “And I look like a freakin’ prostitute!”

Comes An Outlaw
by Keta Diablo
Historical/Western
BUY LINK

When a tragic accident claims her husband's life, Jesse Santos must find a way to keep the ranch, the only home her 12-year-old son has ever known. The ranch hands have abandoned her, a gang of cutthroat ranchers want her land and an ancient Yaqui Indian insists a spirit has taken up residence in the house.

After a fifteen-year absence, her husband's brother, Coy, returns to his childhood home. He doesn't plan on staying, and he certainly doesn't intend to settle down with a widow and her son…no matter how pretty she is.

He's an outlaw, after all, and made a decision to put an end to his gun-slinging days long ago. Will his conscience let him walk away from family, or will his heart overrule his head?" "When a tragic accident claims her husband's life, Jesse Santos must find a way to keep the ranch, the only home her 12-year-old son has ever known.

Help just arrived in the form of her late husband's brother who's been gone for 15 years. But the shiny pistols holstered at his hip and his hardened look scream danger. He's an outlaw, no doubt about it.

Praise for COMES AN OUTLAW
""I loved all the components of this story. The Indian lore was probably my favorite though.""

""The storyline is brilliant. This novella has many twists and turns. A page turner.""

""Diablo has created a set of compelling characters. Jesse captures the essence of the time, when women had very few options, and even fewer good ones."" "

EXCERPT
Jesse Santos speaks to the ghost of her dead husband.

Jesse walked back to the bureau, opened a drawer and pulled out a pair of leather trousers. After pulling the nightshirt over her head, she grabbed Cain’s flannel shirt from a hook, slipped her arms into the sleeves and pulled the trousers over her hips. “I know who the varmints are, all right. Domingo and Benito. Am I right?”

The Torres brothers.

“Yeah, and the low-bellied snakes they ride with, Mutton-Chop Walsh and Digger Newly.” She blew an exasperated breath and looked over her shoulder to the window. “How do you expect me to stand up to them, Cain? I can’t do it, I tell you. Let them have the land because it ain’t worth dying for, or God forbid, losing Grange over.”

You can’t give up the land, love. Been in my family for generations. Ma and Pa will be turning over in their—

“I don’t care. I’m not sacrificing my son, our son, for a piece of scorched earth in the middle of nowhere.”

You’re talking foolish now. You love the land as much as I do, I mean did. You’re tired, worn out; I get that, but….

“But what?”

I never thought I’d hear you say you want to give up the land, give up on life.

“It’s different now that you’re gone. You might as well face it, I’m leaving, Cain. And you should leave too, find that white light you always talked about and forget about this place.”

Help is coming, Jezebel.

“Yeah, and so are monsoon winds, dried up creek beds and taxes. Or did you forget taxes are due…again?”

I’m asking you to hang on for a little while, that’s all.

“You expect me to believe a knight on a big white horse will be riding in soon to save us?”

He rides a Piebald.

“What?”

I said he rides a Piebald with black and white spots, sixteen hands tall.

“Who…who rides a spotted horse and how do you know he’s coming here?""

I’m fading, Jezebel. Used up everything I got this morning.

“No you don’t! You can’t waltz in here, drop your innuendoes and disappear like a snuffed out candle.”

Trust me. Hang on…please hang on.

“Cain, wait…don’t go! You can’t leave like this!”

Hang on, Jezebel…hang on….

Loving Jessie's Girl
Love On The Double Book 1
by MFRW Author L.A. Remenicky

AJ Monroe had made a life for himself in Denver, Colorado, away from his twin brother Jessie, away from Indiana. But when AJ feared for his brother's safety, he left everything behind to step back into the shadow he thought he had outgrown. Finding his brother was AJ's only concern...until he met Jessie's girl.

Fiercely independent, Rina Abbot hid her true situation from everyone, including her best friend, Jessie. Out of money and unable to care for her rescue dogs she had no choice but to accept the help of the handsome stranger with a familiar face. Afraid to trust him, she tried to ignore the feelings he stirred within her as they searched for his missing brother.

But secrets never stay secrets for long. Would Rina’s secrets force AJ to give up his dream of loving Jessie’s girl?
EXCERPT
Rina Abbott clutched the mug of coffee tighter as another shiver wracked her body. Knowing Jessie had planned to be away until Tuesday, she was surprised to see him drive past without a wave or his customary toot of the truck’s horn.

She pulled herself up and stepped off the porch. “C’mon, Petey,” she called to her Jack Russell Terrier. She walked across the yard toward the path, which wound along the stream, leading to Jessie’s front yard. He would probably be back before she could walk the distance to his house.

Her vision wavered in and out as she stumbled down the path, her determination to reach her best friend the only thing keeping her moving forward. Once she reached his front porch, she lost consciousness and crumpled down on the steps.

With a bag of groceries in one hand and a steaming cup of coffee in the other, AJ ambled up the front walk, dropping both when he noticed the beautiful woman sprawled out on the porch steps.
“Hey, are you okay?” he asked as he reached toward her, stopping when the dog on the porch growled at him. “It’s okay, boy. I just want to help.” He held the back of his hand out to the animal, scratching its ears when it sat and looked at him expectantly.

He touched her arm, alarmed at the heat radiating off her. Brushing her blonde hair away from her face, he was distracted by the curve of her cheek, his fingers itching to trace it, before he noticed the pallor of her skin and bright spots of red on her cheeks. Her clothes were baggy as if she lost weight and hadn’t bought new clothes that fit.

She shifted and opened her eyes. “Love you, Jessie,” she mumbled. He looked into her eyes, mesmerized by the hazel color until she passed out again.

“Jessie lucked out this time. You’re gorgeous,” he murmured as he dialed 911 on his cell phone.

Frustrated as he answered “I don’t know” to most of the dispatcher’s questions, he wondered how long it would take for an ambulance to get there. He rubbed his neck as he listened for the wail of a siren. Anger welled up as he wondered how his brother could leave his girlfriend here alone when she was obviously sick.
