Bob looked her over. ""In that dress, a blind man would remember you.""
She playfully punched his arm. ""I was celebrating my divorce last night. I wanted to look good for me, no one else.""
Two uniformed officers passed and she noticed Bob glaring at them. ""Well, other people agree you look good for them. Here's an officer to take you to the hospital.""
""Thanks, Bob. Do the reporters know my name yet?""
""No, we haven't told them we've questioned anyone."" He put a hand on Miriam's shoulder. ""I realize you probably don't want to go through the wringer again."" She noted he left off the ""like when Mark was indicted"".

Evening of the Dragonfly

Oak Tree Books

Threatening telephone calls and strange cars with dark-tinted windows plague artist/teacher Farrah Ferand. Recovering from the tragic loss of her mother, Farrah is trying to adapt to the life of a small-town art teacher when she encounters Dirk Lawrence. Her attraction to him is immediate and electric until Farrah discovers Dirk is part of an investment firm that led to her mother's downfall a few years earlier. Farrah's not too perfect dating relationship with Tom Douglas, the town favorite football coach, worsens. An unexpected encounter leads to dates with Dirk and his help with the construction of a dream art studio in her rented house. But trouble looms with Tom who believes he and Farrah are engaged, and the entire town appears to be drawn in. Haunting dreams and lost memories overwhelm Farrah as she creates paintings for a one-person art show.

Will shadows of the past ruin all hope for Farrah and Dirk?

Repressed memories haunt the life of artist/teacher Farrah Ferrand who is falling in love with a real-life hero while her small town attempts to link her with the high school football coach. Resolution to memories of her past are revealed in the paintings she creates for a one-person art show. All the while, danger surrounds her.

Can Farrah survive?

A PROLOGUE
Martha Ferand stepped from the real estate office onto the dimly lit brick sidewalk. Not used to the darkness, she fumbled inside her purse searching for her car keys. When she found them hidden in the very bottom, she pulled them out and headed for her small gray car parked nearby.

All of a sudden, someone jumped out of the shadows and clasped a hand over her mouth. Caught by surprise, Martha struggled but soon found she was no match for the heavyset attacker. One huge
arm held her tight while the dark-clad man pulled a vile-smelling handkerchief from his pocket.

""Help!"" she screamed, but the towering stranger stifled her words with the crush of the damp cloth against her nose and mouth. Martha struggled against his iron grip. She tried not to breathe,
but she was unable to hold her breath for long. Despite all her efforts to stay awake, her body wilted against the man's unyielding arm.

How strange.

All of a sudden, Martha was looking down. She was watching a man clad in black drag a helpless woman over the rough brick side walk. He had Martha's keys and unlocked her car. Then he flopped
the limp body inside.

Who was the woman? Martha couldn't see her face. She tried to move, tried to help her, but she couldn't. She could only watch. The sinister assailant rushed around to the driver's side of the car
and slid beneath the wheel to start it. Then, they sped away into the darkness heading in the direction of the country club road that led to the lake.

“Why was that?” Martha wondered.

How odd.

Martha floated above them. She watched, but she could not speak nor scream. She wanted to help the woman, wanted to wake her up, wanted to pull her from danger. But she could only observe as the man parked the car along the edge of the lake by the road. So close to the edge. Too much danger. Martha tried harder than ever to scream, but not a sound came from her mouth.

A dark hood shadowed the face of the man who pulled his limp victim across the seat to the driver's side, propped her against the steering wheel, set the car to drive, and leaped out in a flash. Moments later, he shoved the vehicle from the rear until it started to roll into the water.

Another car pulled up, and the man vaulted inside. A small shaft of light fell across the face of the driver.

Martha felt a tear slide down her cheek. She knew the owner of the vehicle. She did not understand.

All of a sudden, Martha was inside her car, struggling to get out. Struggling as the water seeped in. Struggling as the little gray sedan disappeared beneath the still waters of the dark summer lake.

Within a few moments, all the world turned black and the struggling ceased.

BOOK SPOTLIGHT: The Rebel's Redemption by #MFRWauthor Jacquie Biggar @jacqbiggar

So why isn’t it quite enough?

Jared Martin left Tidal Falls a hotheaded youth, and now, after eight years in the military, he returns a bitter, disillusioned man.

REVIEW
"This is book 2 in the Wounded Hearts series and it doesn't disappoint. Jared and Annie have a past; long time friends and a one night love affair. Jared took off to join the Nave SEALS the day after their union and 9 months later Annie delivered her son Chris.

Now 8 years later, Jared is back and learns he has a son and is still in love with Annie. Jared doesn't want to ruin her life however. But then trouble follows Jared to town and endangers the boy. Can they work together for the sake of their son? Will they work out as a couple as well? 2 Thumbs Up for a great book."  - Comment by Barb

EXCERPT
“Miss Campbell, guess what? Jake’s here. He was outside when we went to get Susan. How cool is that?”
“That’s pretty cool all right. How’d he get here? And where’s Chris?” She’d grabbed up a napkin to wipe the ice cream from her lips, when a voice out of the past lifted the hairs on the nape of her neck and sent a shiver down her spine.
“He’s here. With me.”
The smooth tones rolled over her, and sucked all the air out of the room. Annie stiffened, then crumpled the napkin and slowly turned in her seat—yep, it was Jared all right. And Chris.
Oh.
My.
God.
He looked good. The random thought floated through her mind even as she tried to digest the fact he was finally back. Eight years too late, but he was here. She wanted to grab Chris and run. Run before what was obvious to her became obvious to everyone else. Shit.
“Hello, Annie, it’s been a long time.” Why was he looking at her as if she’d betrayed him? She wasn’t the one to cut and run without a single word in all this time. Goddamn him.
“Jared. Yes, it has been. A very long time. There were no phones where you were? Your mother probably would’ve appreciated knowing whether you were dead or alive.” Not to mention herself. She’d promised herself she wasn’t going down this road, the blame road. It was time to leave.
She turned her back on him, looked into Jack’s concerned eyes, and forced herself to smile as if her heart wasn’t shattering into a million tiny pieces. “I better get back. Tina needs to take her break. Call me later?”
He gave her waist a warm squeeze, and placed a gentle kiss on her cheek before sliding free. “I’m not sure what’s going on, but for what it’s worth, I’ve got your back.”
Near tears, she stood from the table, and without looking at either man again, grabbed both children’s hands and hustled them out the door.

Will Cain find Olivia before it’s too late or will their differences tear them apart?
EXCERPT
“What?” She managed the strength to mumble.
He drew closer, pressing his chest against hers. The heat of his body caressing hers, she grew warm with craving. Helplessly, her gaze drifted to his thick full lips. Her mind wandered. What she’d give for a kiss, a single mind-blowing kiss?
Cheeks flushing, her gaze darted toward his again. “Why are you…” Her body’s desires overwhelming her, she gasped for breath.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were leaving?”
He wasn’t just angry. He was livid, and he was livid with her because she’d left.
She didn’t know what to say, had no excuse, not one she could tell him anyway.
Shutting his eyes firmly, his anger intensified, coiling rapidly against her until she not only felt it but tasted it. Still, she wasn’t afraid. With each passing moment, all she felt was heat, his and hers, and how badly she wanted him.
“Answer me,” he demanded harshly. “Tell me why you left without telling me!”
His tone startling her, she jolted against him, her body rubbing his. A desire so powerful rippled through her and spiraled inside her, pooling liquid between her legs. It clouded her every thought and every action, so as she stared straight into his eyes, she couldn’t remember what he’d said.
Clenching his jaw, he ground his teeth in anger, so close to losing it. “Olivia, tell me!”

MFRW Author E. L. Esch shares her 13 Favorite Books on Thursday13.
I do not believe there is a linear way to write a romance, or any genre for that matter. I like books that make me think, the ones that make me work to understand the characters and what they go through, because "you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view - until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." :)

REVIEW
""Oh yes...I really liked this...I love me some angst but not all the time...This one had a little angst but not too much and a lot of sweetness which was just right....I'm off to read Seeing Red....""

EXCERPT
“I’m Mandy, and I’m bi.”
“My name’s Cole, and I identify as gay.”
“Terry, and if you can’t tell I’m gay, you need your brain checked, okay?”
The room chuckled, and then everybody’s gaze fell on me. “Uh…” I coughed. My throat felt like it was filled with sand, and I practically had to spit out my next words, “I’m Dante.” That’s it, just Dante. Now move along…
Fortunately when he realized I wasn’t going to say any more, the man next to me piped up with his introduction.
I whistled a sigh of relief. When I got out of this frigging trust circle, I was going to wring Greg’s scrawny neck!
I felt like a huge asshole sitting in this circle of ten people in a secluded underground room of the student union. They were here because they wanted to share with other people like them, to hang out and not be judged. Well, I wasn’t judging by any means, but the only reason I’d found my way to this LGBTQ meeting was because I’d lost a bet and my friend was still immature enough to find this kind of thing amusing.
The guy next to me nudged me in the shoulder, and I nearly flew ten feet out of my chair. I looked around the room. Introductions seemed to be over, and now everyone was just talking.
“You’re a fourth year, right?” he asked. His voice was smooth and rich. It reminded me of syrup, or tree sap.
“Fifth.” I swallowed. “I’m only finishing up electives this semester. I already have a job in my field.”
“Ah, must be nice.” He threw back his head over the edge of his chair and sighed. “In this little town it’s hard to find an internship close to home. I’ve been going through hell trying.” He grinned. “What’d you study?”
“Physical therapy.”
“Ah, that explains it. There are so many old folks and people who work with their backs around here. You’ll be in business for a long while yet. Or did you have plans to leave town?”
Part of me wondered if this was the kind of small talk I’d thought about making with that girl before. This guy was a hell of a lot better at it than I would’ve been. But whatever his motives, I didn’t mind. Greg was the only close friend I had on campus, and he hated talking about school life and work. The change of topic from girls and clubbing was refreshing.
“Nah, not leaving.” I shook my head. “Born and raised here in the country and no plan on leaving. I stick to my roots.”
He nodded. “I feel the same.” He held out his hand to me. “James.”
“Dante.” I took his hand warmly.
“So…” James leaned back in his chair and gestured at the whole of the room. “I haven’t seen you at one of these before.”
“Um…”
“Hey, it’s cool if you don’t wanna talk about it. Just making an observation. This place is so no pressure.”
It certainly didn’t feel like no pressure to me, but maybe it was the overwhelming guilt that made my stomach feel like it was tangled in knots. I wasn’t going to lie—I’d been curious in the past, but nothing ever came of it. Then again I’d never had a girlfriend either, which was why Greg had thought this would be so hilarious. I found men and women attractive in their own way, but that hardly made me gay or bisexual. Damn, if Greg knew how much stress this was really causing me inside, he’d probably look at me like I’d grown another head.
“Terry over there…” James set a hand on my shoulder and pointed to the guy who’d introduced himself earlier. “Biggest flamer in the whole damn school, and proud of it. You’ll see him at every drag show, and he’ll probably win. Sets the rest of the competition on edge, I tell ya.” He chuckled and pointed to another guy sitting three seats to my left. “The guy with the lumberjack beard is Carl. He’s quiet, not too wild. You two would probably get along.”
“Why are you telling me all this?”
James laughed. “Because you’re new, and I can tell you’re the shy type. Just put yourself out there. Nobody here bites…” He winked. “Often. Ah, I just noticed Seven is missing. Bummer. Not surprised, though. He’s a shy guy too. He’d be the perfect one for you to talk to. Better than me.”
“Seven?” What kind of a name was that?

BOOK SPOTLIGHT on Pumpkin: a Cindermama Story by #MFRWauthor Ines Johnson @InesWrites

Pumpkin: a Cindermama Story
Erotic Fairytale Retelling
Ines Johnson
Heartspell Media, LLC

Single mother Malika “Pumpkin” Tavares lost faith in fairytales after she fell for a toad. Now she believes she’s not cut from the storybook, heroine cloth and searches for Mr. Good Enough amongst the sidekicks and supporting men of the town.

Love at first sight isn’t a cliche for town royalty Armand “Manny” Charmayne. For generations the Charmaynes have spotted their soulmates by seeing a golden aura the first time they laid eyes on The One.

When Manny meets Pumpkin he sees…nothing, but sparks fly off the richter scale. The more he gets to know her the more he considers defying fate, if only he can convince her to take a chance on love again.

EXCERPT
The Mistress of Ceremonies hurried through her introductions and then the microphone was in Manny's hand, but he didn't take out the notes of his prepared speech.

""Many of you knew my mother,"" he began. There was a murmur of nostalgic assent throughout the crowd.

""You may not know that after her diagnosis, she spent most of her days watching romantic comedies. She believed she could laugh the illness out of her body. Her favorite moments in these films were something called the Grand Gesture. That scene just after all hope is lost because one of the lovers, normally the guy, has done something stupid that's led to the end of the relationship. So he thinks up this bold, romantic move to get the woman back.""

A glance around the room told Manny that he held the largely female crowd in rapt attention.

""An example of a grand gesture would be a guy telling his estranged wife that she completes him in the midst of an angry mob of women. Or rescuing her underwear from the class geek and returning it to her at her sister's wedding. Or holding a boom box over his head, in front of her bedroom window, early in the morning, while blasting the song that was playing as he deflowered her.""

A different wave of nostalgia swept through the crowd this time as they remembered these treasured moments of Hollywood cinema.

""In the real world, some people might call these behaviors creepy, or stalker-ish. But not my mother. She loved them. She believed in love, believed that when you loved someone you said it loud, you showed it often, and you never gave up.""

Manny paused here, partly for effect, mostly to collect himself as visions of his mother's joyous face played in his head. He rubbed the heel of his hand against his chest.

""The national divorce rate is 50 percent.""

There was no surprise in the room, where most of the men were older and the women on their arms were younger.

""There's never been a divorce in the Charmayne family. Not one recorded anywhere in our family line.""

The sparkle of young women's eyes threatened to blind Manny from where he stood on the stage.

""What that means is when a Charmayne gives you their pledge, they are committed.""

The decision was a split second one, but once Manny made it he stuck with it. He stepped around the podium, mic in hand and dropped to one knee. The gasp of every woman in the room was near deafening.

""To earn your vote, I will do whatever I have to, including blast Peter Gabriel in the streets. Charmaynes don't quit. I'm committed to this, to the people of this town. I hope that I can count on your vote.""

The room erupted in thunderous applause, and the women's eyes sparkled even brighter.

Trancing the Tiger BOOK SPOTLIGHT @RachaelSlate #MFRWauthor

Trancing the Tiger

Erotic Paranormal Fantasy Romance
Rachael Slate

Delve into a world steeped in tradition and superstition…

Everything in this closed-off section of the world is paradise—from the lush tropical climate to her sexy new neighbor, Sheng…who just might be delusional. Long furry ears and fluffy bunny tail included.

He’ll show her how to fight to save the world…
She’ll show him a love worth fighting the world to save…
Sheng’s enemies draw closer, and not everyone wants Lucy alive. Together, they’ll have to navigate a treacherous world where a line between duty and their hearts has been drawn between them. They must either sacrifice one, or find a way to surrender to both.

“The thrill of discovering a new author with such talent is an amazing feeling. Trancing the Tiger had my attention from the first page…. A beautiful, well written story.” Becky Cox, IsaLovesBooks Blog

EXCERPT
Sheng grappled for control that seemed as fleeting as his sanity. Lucy was off-limits. He’d reminded himself a thousand times tonight. Yet when Tiger had pinned her to the ground, Sheng would have taken her. Right then, right there.
If not for the intrusion of his friends.
Worse, she’d melted right into him the moment she’d realized his identity.
She trusted him and didn’t even bloody know why. Once he got her somewhere safe, he’d enlighten her with the logic fueling her instincts.
Tiger puffed out in supreme satisfaction. He almost hadn’t caught her; she was so swift. If not for the inclined tree trunk providing a bounding point, he might have missed.
Sheng’s shoulders tensed, on alert for more of Snake’s “friends.” Penang Hill—behind them—served as the boundary between the Hai San and Ghee Hin territories. The Gardens were the gateway to the Ghee Hin Kongsi’s residence in the Batu Feringghi—the stretch of posh beaches on the north coast of the island. He had to get Lucy out of here before Snake caught sight of her and realized what she was.
Where she might have argued with him, she simply obeyed. Her light footsteps padded behind him. That blind obedience concerned him more than her bolting. She shouldn’t trust a stranger with such ease, certainly not one who looked like him.
He raked his hands through his hair to stop from lashing out at her…or drawing her into his arms and shielding her. He wasn’t sure which instinct would win.
Even more reason to hold his tongue.
He straddled his motorcycle, unclasped the helmet, and offered it to her.
She approached him, her golden eyes wide and wary. Great. Now she chose to be cautious. “Who were those men?”
“You wanna stay and find out?”
Her nose twitched. “Do you work for my uncle? Are you my bodyguard? Where are you taking me?”
“Get on.” He dismissed her questions and waved the helmet. No time for this, not here.
Her hands trembled as she accepted it and secured the strap around her chin. Without questioning him again, she slipped onto the bike behind him.
“Hold on tight.” He reached back, seized her wrists, and clasped her hands together around his waist. “I don’t do slow.”
He revved the gas, the tires squealing while they pivoted around and peeled away. Her body slammed into his, her grasp cinching tighter as they sped through the streets. Lucy’s slender fingers spread across his abdomen, causing his muscles to tighten and his cock to throb. Was she purposefully teasing him with her velvety touch?
She slid her fingers beneath the hem of his t-shirt and his abs jerked as though sparked by a live wire. He growled once, in warning.
“Sorry. My fingers are cold. Do you mind?” Her murmur against his ear spiked his blood.
Was she actually cold or did he detect a sultry note to her voice? Did she suffer the same raging attraction he did?
With his concentration on navigating the streets and his hands gripping the handlebars, she had him at a disadvantage against the fanning of her fingers.
Her warm fingers.
They rounded a corner, and her body crushed against his. She didn’t draw back, and the imprint of her full breasts branded his back. He swore he could even feel her tight little nipples rubbing against him. He fought the urge to swing around and take her on the motorcycle. To hell with crashing—as if they’d even notice. They’d both survive.

Within The Mist #MFRWauthor Interview @DenyseBridger

MFRW Author Denysé Bridger talks with us about her latest book.
Canadian born and bred, and a lifelong dreamer, I began writing at an early age and can’t recall a time when I wasn’t creating in some artistic form. My life has had several on-going love affairs that shape much of what I write.  In the past half dozen years, I’ve released books in all lengths and genres, and it’s something I hope to continue to do for many more years. A visit to my websites will show the diversity of what is currently available, as well as other surprises and extras!

Why did you decide to write romance novels?
I think I always wrote romance stories, no matter what subgenre I work in, there was pretty much always at least a romantic element to the story. I started reading my mom’s Harlequin’s when I was eleven, and I fell in love with them. I write other genres, but it’s rare that there isn’t a romance theme somewhere in the mix.

How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?
I think we have to include our life experience in our writing. The older we are the more wisdom we bring to our work, so it has to reflect. For me personally, I don’t find I want to write really young characters now because I find the slightly older hero and heroine so much more interesting, their responses to their situations are more “adult” and to me far less emotionally high-strung. I’ve read so many books where the main characters are in their twenties and they respond to life like teenagers, everything is life altering life and death important. I think most of us realign our perceptions as we get older, and I find the thoughtful approach more interesting to read about in a book.

What kind of research do you do for a book?
I tend to do a little research for all my books, even if it’s only reading an article of some kind to refresh my memory on some point. When I write historical setting, I do a lot of hunting down things that will allow me to add small touches and detail that perhaps don’t take centre stage, but they do enhance the setting and mood of the story for readers. When I wrote my Devane stories, I was very careful to make sure my Jack the Ripper facts were accurate, because that was a key part of the story’s background. When I write Westerns, they have to have an authentic feel to them, so that requires some general knowledge of the era and clothing, etc. I love research, it keeps things interesting for me!

Would you like to write a different genre than you do now, or sub-genre?
I write in so many genres now, I think all I can do is find new ways to blend them and integrate them into new, multi-genre stories. I love so many styles, depending on what interests me or sparks my imagination. I think that’s the key to keeping things fresh and exciting, stepping into new worlds keeps me motivated and entertained, and when that happens, I believe readers are kept interested, as well.

Tell us about your latest book. What motivated the story? Where did the idea come from?
The idea for this story sort of dropped on me when I was listening to the music of a friend of mine, a young Italian singer named Riccardo Foresi. A photographer friend in Rome had send some photos to me, a series he’d taken in Venice for me relating to another story. He captured the image that is on the cover of the book, and all of a sudden I was having visions of “Phantom of the Opera” and a mysterious vampire… so, Within The Mist was born.

Within The Mist

The misty evening air of a Winter in Venice cloaks many things…. Some who are passionate lovers hoping for stolen moments….. others who are merely the cutthroats and thieves that plague any city filled with the wealth of visitors and citizens of palaces….. But what else lies hidden within the mist? The voice of an angel lures…. each perfect note beckons and promises untold pleasures…. until, finally, a broken heart succumbs to desire…. and Fate weaves a new thread into the tapestry that is the mystery of life itself…. The evening air of a Winter in Venice cloaks many things… Passion, destiny, sorrow… Perhaps even the spectre of death waits within the mist… BUY LINK

EXCERPT
He continued to sing, the lyrical, lilting Italian words caressing her spirit and pulling
her closer to him. When she finally stepped into the chamber where he was, she stared in wonder. The room was lit with what appeared to be a thousand candles, their soft glow reflecting off the polished wooden floor and throwing frenetic shadows everywhere. Seated at the piano was a slender man, dressed all in black. His hair was dark, and the hands that whispered over the keys of the instrument were long-fingered and elegant. Hands shaped for making love in any form he chose. He played the last notes of the mesmerizing song and slowly turned to look at her. His dark eyes glittered, flames dancing wildly in their ebony depths, and he held out his hand to draw her forward. She went to him and dropped to her knees, head bowed, tears streaking her face as she let the hood of her cape fall to hide her shame. “You came to end my life. Why?” “I cannot bear the pain of not knowing you.” “But you do know me. I am part of you.” “You are madness!” She retorted with real anger surging into her being, giving her strength and making her look up at him. “You have taken everything!” “I took nothing,” he admonished with gentle warmth. “I am part of you.” “How can that be?” He smiled. She felt the kiss of his indulgence touch her heart. “You created me,” he murmured. “The night he died, you gave me life.” She was confused, and the room was suddenly growing colder with each beat of her heart. “Why did you let me find you?” He tilted his head to one side and considered her question. “Perhaps because it is time for me to return the gift of life to you, tesoro mio?”
What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?
Mostly these days, I try to turn off the computer about mid-evening and force myself to do relaxing things. I watch old TV shows that I love, or pick up one of the many books that are next to my comfy chair. Failing that, I often grab a notebook and make notes for future work, or fill in details for what I am writing. I still handwrite letters to friends I’ve had for years all over the world, too–my first pen pal and I still write to each other, and it’s been decades!

Who are some of your other favorite authors to read?
Lara Adrian, Lucy Monroe, Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes fan forever here), Elizabeth Goddard is a new author for me, but I love her. Same with Annie West, Elisabeth Naughton, Kristin Painter, Cynthia Garner. So many wonderful and talented people in this business it’s hard to name just a few.

MFRW Author Victoria Pinder released Borrowing the Doctor, a Mainstream Contemporary Romance, with Soul Mate Publishing.

BLURB

Party girl. Art thief. All around bad girl. It’s what all the newspapers call socialite and heiress Kate Sparrow. It’s all untrue. Kate’s been set up and she’s following the orders of the FBI to get the real criminal, her father. She’ll have to put up with her sister, the wedding fiasco, and her own fears that someone is after her, trying to stop her to get what she needs to prove her innocence.

Doctor Daniel Collins joins his brothers on a cruise to the wedding of his young cousin. His cousin begs him to keep a close watch on the bride’s sister, Kate. He's to keep her from ruining the wedding.

Kate doesn’t trust Daniel's help in her life, but the man’s interference is blocking a few problems. She lets him. After all, he spent a few years in the military and having a friend like Daniel is nice. But when her fears become true, someone is after her, pretending to be in a relationship with the sexy doctor has its benefits. What she hadn’t planned was opening her heart to trusting him. But if she doesn’t open up, she’s going to lose out on far more than her life, she’d lose out on love.

EXCERPT
Daniel slid into his seat and away from Eric, but his arms remained tense. His brothers wouldn’t like this plan. He didn’t like this plan. “I’m to babysit the spoiled rich princess and keep her away from the cops and the alcohol, this trip.”
He pressed his lips together. He expected his brothers to have an opinion, but silence greeted his ears.
All eyes went back to the door.
His collar grew warmer. Daniel glanced around to stare in the same direction. He assumed Kate Sparrow had stepped into the club.
His eyes scanned the room, and then the crowds parted. He had his first look. Time might have stopped, and he heard his own heartbeat. Brown hair with a bit of a curl, brown eyes, small frame, unusually large breasts for a woman her size, and an energy that took his breath away. He also noted that Kate’s eyes held a gleam, and Daniel’s mouth fell open. Kate Sparrow was the most beautiful woman he’d seen in a long while.
Beauty meant trouble. He turned back to his beer and refused to stare at her.
The pictures in the papers hadn’t done her justice at all. How did they turn that pretty woman into a viper with a camera? His mind raced. Did she have a Jekyll and Hyde personality that came out at night?

#Thursday13 Sentences from Stormee Waters by #MFRWauthor @LyndaCoker

For today's Thursday13, MFRW Author Lynda Coker shares thirteen sentences from her book, Stormee Waters. The Contemporary Romance is published through The Wild Rose Press.

BLURB
Stormee Waters knows about hard times. To provide for her aging grandmother and teenage brother, she takes a magazine journalist job in Houston.  First assignment: a series of articles entitled, Make My Man Texas-Sized.  First subject:  Dirk Savage an adventurous businessman with the air of a conqueror. Admired by his peers and coveted by beauty queens and debutantes, he's just the type of man Stormee needs to make her first article sizzle. But when she catches his attention, can she handle the heat?

Accomplished CEO Dirk is used to acquiring what he wants, except in the illusive quest for the one woman who can fill his heart. The shock of discovering his dream woman in the naive Stormee sets his jaded emotions on high alert.

Can he convince her his intentions are genuine?" Dirk Savage never fails to acquire what he wants until he encounters Stormee Waters and a backwash of trouble...
1. Alpha Males (Desirable or Despicable?)
2.  If captured, she will find the duality of her world challenging, since the innate nature of such a man can both raise a woman to ecstasy or drown her in despair.
3. The force with which she removed her hand from his deepened the small wrinkles around his eyes as his expression changed from warm to probing.
4. He knows he’s gorgeous, and he’s aware by the nitwitted grin on my face that I’m not immune.
5.  How could a modern day warrior have hands that gave a woman all manner of fanciful thoughts?
6. Did Alpha Males assume that women in general deferred to their decisions, or was she just a simple-minded exception?
7. With her back against the rock wall, Stormee muttered, “What are you doing?”
8. Shock kept her immobile, while the sweetest pleasure she’d ever experienced sensitized her mouth
beyond bearing.
9. “If I were your father, Miss Waters, Id march you out to the car and tan your pretty little backside for not knowing what’s good for you.”
10. "Your scent pleases me, and I don’t make a habit of denying myself pleasures which are in my power to obtain."
11. He was certainly full of himself and made no effort to conceal a fundamental premise that men controlled and women submitted.
12. "Get rid of him before he stakes a claim, because when he does, he’ll take the whole territory.”
13. The hunger blazing in his dark eyes sucked every thought from her brain and nearly short-circuited her heart.

Q1. If money were not an object, where would you most like to live?
The beach. Absolutely the beach, somewhere hot.

Q2. Picture yourself as a store. Considering your personality and lifestyle, what type of products would be sold there?
I would be a general store, with a little bit of everything. I like to experience things, try new things out, do a bit of everything so this would suit me perfectly. Hm, after question one that'd better be a general store on a beach, somewhere hot.

Q3. What is your secret guilty pleasure?
I adore chocolate.

Q4. If you were stranded on a tropical island, who would it be with?
James Bond. Any of them. All of them. He/ they would catch our supper, build us a shelter, and eventually use some awesome gadget so we were rescued. Meanwhile I'd watch their muscles ripple with the sunlight glinting on their sweat... er,  that is, I'd help them, of course.

Q5. Ebook or paperback?
Both. Paperback for long airplane flights and lazy holidays. Ebook for ease of transportation and the ability to always have plenty of choice as to which one to read next.

Q6. Zebras or elephants?
Zebras. I like to move fast.

Q7. City life or country life?
I'm a city girl through and through, although I could adjust to being a beach bum real easy!

Q8. Tell us about your latest book.

The Beach Boys: Summer

Book 1 of "The Beach Boys" series
Siren Bookstrand

Craig Darnell and Seth Tyler are both on holidays at Two Waters beach. The moment they meet, the lust between them is instant and fiercely hot. Sex at the beach, in the woods, in the sauna…When they take a break from having sex they discover they have many interests in common and begin to build a relationship outside the bedroom.

Just when they are beginning to evolve from sex partners into a genuine relationship, their romance is interrupted when Seth is called back to the school where he teaches, for a staff meeting about an unexpected school consolidation. Seth is shattered when he and most of his colleagues find themselves suddenly unemployed. His well-ordered life has come to a crashing halt, along with his vacation—and perhaps his romance. Is this the end for both of them? Was it nothing but a vacation fling after all?

EXCERPT
As they walked across the grassy slope, Craig said, “I looked around at tattoos and piercings, but I teach high school, as you know. I really wanted something that was my secret. Something that was truly mine. Oh, sure, lovers would know about it. Even other men in the school bathroom maybe. But I didn’t want something like an arm tattoo that everyone in the street would know about. I thought for a long time before I made my decision and I’m still very happy with it.”“Hell yes. I’m very happy with it as well.”This time Craig did give Seth a quick hug. Damn, he loved that man so much already. They were incredibly well suited to each other. It was amazing how perfectly their thoughts, hopes, plans, and ideas meshed, even after such a short time together. Craig was really looking forward to getting to know Seth better and better as time passed.“What about you? Have you ever thought of getting a tattoo or a piercing?”Seth put his ball on the tee, ready to take his shot. “Like you, I don’t really want something everyone can see. I like to wear short-sleeved shirts for work in summer. As you would know from my tan, I don’t wear much clothing in the hottest weather at all. So no matter where I got the tattoo, people would be able to see it. I’m not really into jewelry, so an ear piercing, or an eyebrow ring, or a nose stud, isn’t really me either.”Seth’s shot was good, bouncing and landing on the green near the next hole.Craig concentrated on doing his best, but he must have been distracted by thinking about Seth, because his ball landed right on the very edge of the green. “Damn.”“You’ll just have to admit I’m a better golfer than you,” Seth teased him.“That’s not hard.” As soon as he said it, Craig cock stretched and grew. Damn. He couldn’t even play golf without wanting Seth.

#MFRWauthor BOOK SPOTLIGHT: On Wings of Darkness @JoliePethtel

On Wings of Darkness
Mainstream Paranormal Romance
Jolie Pethtel
Muse It Up Publishing

What would happen if you were meant to die, but someone intervened? Your very existence would disrupt the natural balance, effecting everyone you touch for the remainder of your unnatural life. What if you met your soul mate? A man who was meant for you alone, but at the same time not because you should no longer exist? This is what happens to Adara James when she crosses paths with Journey Montgomery, a man unknowingly shadowed by darkness. This is no chance meeting between two human strangers, but a collision of souls whose continued proximity to one another has the potential to tear apart the world.

When a fallen angel battles for control over her body, Adara James must fight to resist her dark side. BUY LINK

EXCERPT
Adele curled herself into a fetal position, in an effort to fight off whatever agony was consuming her flesh. Unable to bear it any longer, she let out a blood curdling scream.
Journey ran to her side, gripping her shoulders forcefully.
“Adele! What is happening to you? Tell me!”
Wordlessly, she turned her back to him and he nearly scuttled backward in horror at the sight of her flesh tearing. Something was protruding from the two gashes in her back. It looked like black feathers wet with some sticky substance he couldn’t identify.
“My God! What is it?” He turned to the healer, who was backing away from the woman in fear.
“Evil.” The man muttered.
“Can’t you do something?”
The healer wordlessly shook his head no. Whatever this was, it was beyond his powers. It was beyond anything. They had been fools to think they could trick this possessing spirit. Now she was angry. He could feel the rage bursting from the helpless woman’s body. It was doubtful she would survive whatever came next.
A whimpering came from the other side of the fire. Adara bit her lip till it bled to hold back her own scream of agony. Much like her sister, she was curled into a tight ball, trying to evade whatever was coming. She rocked back and forth muttering under her breath.
Journey couldn’t quite hear what she was saying, until he reached her side.  She was repeating the same three words over and over.
“Make it stop. Make it stop. Make it stop.”
He turned her ever so gently, so he could see her back where something undulated beneath her skin. Whatever was inside her sought a way out and when it found none, it tore through her flesh. Two rips appeared, as with Adele and white feathers tinged in red poked through. Now he understood what the wet, sticky substance was—blood. Finally Adara could hold back her scream no longer. A long, piercing shriek rent the air, echoing around the camp.
Adara pushed away from him, rising to her knees, facing Adele across the fire. Adele rose to the same position. Their eyes locked briefly and then they seemed to slump weakly, their heads falling forward. They both appeared ready to topple over into the fire pit. Journey held himself ready to pull them out, should such a thing occur. God! He hated feeling this helpless.
He wanted to do something to stop their pain. Hell, he wanted to stop whatever horror was about to happen. It certainly couldn’t be anything good. Yet he sensed that whatever lay ahead was as inevitable as it was inescapable.
Blood ran like a river down Adara’s back, as a pair of wings pushed their way outward through her flesh, but she did not scream again, nor did Adele. It was exactly like the mirrored image painting. The internal struggle between light versus darkness. But this time the battle was out in the open and there appeared to be one hell of a smackdown about to take place here on his mother’s reservation. One woman had white wings and the other black. They rose to their feet simultaneously, facing off against each other. No longer sisters, but rivals, prepared for a fight to the death.
ABOUT Jolie Pethtel
Jolie Pethtel, an avid reader and writer, has always loved a good plot twist. In fact, when watching movies with her family she typically spoils the ending before the big reveal with her guesses, but nothing thrills her more than being wrong—except maybe hearing that a reader never saw the twists and turns coming in one of her own books. She has two published novels from her Jezebel Jinx Mystery series; Painted Jezebel and Poison Pens. On Wings of Darkness is her first paranormal romance.

It's a False Start! Meet #MFRWauthor Marianne Rice @MarianneRiceAut

Meet Marianne Rice
Marianne Rice writes contemporary romances set in small New England towns. Her heroes are big and strong, yet value family and humor, while her heroines her smart, sexy, sometimes a little bit sassy, and are often battling a strong internal conflict. Together, they deal with real life issues and always find everlasting love. When she's not writing, Marianne spends her time buying shoes, eating chocolate, chauffeuring her herd of children to their varying sporting events, and when there's time, relaxing with fancy drinks and a great read. She tries to make time for her husband too, but he often places behind her love affair with books.

Why did you decide to write romance novels?
Well, I read. A lot. As in 150-200 books a year. Somehow I manage to work full-time, tend to my three kids and their busy schedules, and keep my husband fed and clothed and...happy. Reading romance is my escape from work and mommy life. With so many stories and hot heroes running through my head each week, they sort of morphed into new characters with their own sets of problems and goals. One day when I was home with my newborn son, and two and four year-old daughters I thought, ""Hey, I should start writing some of my stories down."" And so I did.

How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?
Oh lordy. If my books were autobiographical they'd be a genre of their own: comedic horror meets dramatic nut house. My husband likes to think the hero and romantic elements are based off him, but eh, no. I like to write about situations that could have happened, or that have happened to someone, somewhere. My characters have flaws and internal conflicts--who doesn't?--and I like to give them something we all want: Happily Ever After.

What genre do you write?
I write contemporary romance because it's what I like to read. I do read some historical romance, but researching the specifics of different time periods and cultures would discourage me from writing. I'd love to write a dystopian YA (my children love reading them), but I can't imagine crafting a whole world from scratch. Kudos to those who can!

What is your writing routine once you start a book?
I am a teacher and am blessed with summers off. Although sometimes being home with three kids is more work. I remind my husband that I'm not on ""vacation"", but I'm a stay-at-home mom, which is a crazy, busy job! Anyway, I spend much of my ""working"" months cooking up my stories, and during vacations and the summer I'm able to spit it all out rather quickly. It may not be pretty, but I get the first draft of a book written in two months and spend the next few months reading it when I can. I don't get bogged down with crafting the perfect sentence the first go-around. I think I would get discouraged. In the summer, it's all about word count. It's what works best for me.

Do you feel humor is important in fiction and why?
Oh, yes. I love humor. Most people are funny in some way, shape or form. Maybe not all the time, but life is full of quirky situations and one-liners. I like to incorporate them into my writing.

Who are some of your other favorite authors to read?
I love Kristan Higgins, Jill Shalvis, Carly Phillips, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Belle Andre. Oh, hundreds more, but those are the names that first come to mind.

Tell us about your latest book. What motivated the story?
My hero in False Start is a retired NFL player. I've always loved the game and even married a football player. Naturally I had to have a quarterback in my first book!

False Start

Book One in The McKay-Tucker Men series
Liquid Silver Publishing

Vowing to never follow her heart again, Meg Fulton keeps men at a safe distance. But retired NFL player Connor McKay manages to crack Meg’s defenses and she discovers the sports-loving alpha male is much more than a sexy package wrapped in great biceps and a tight rear end. He’s got to make the riskiest play of his life to get her to fall in love again …

EXCERPT
“We need to talk.”
Startled by the deep growl, Meg Fulton looked up to the towering stack of testosterone filling her office doorway and cursed the butterflies that fluttered in her stomach.
She straightened her posture, ran her hand through her thick hair in an attempt to put all the strays back in place, and then reached for the lapels of the suit coat that wasn’t there. She felt vulnerable in her silk tank top and wished she had an extra layer to shield her from the menacing daggers targeted at her. Putting on the jacket would only make a spectacle of herself. The thin tank would have to do.
“Sure. Have a seat.” She crossed her legs and attempted to smile. Inwardly, Meg groaned. Connor McKay. She’d noticed him on the football field coaching his athletes and had not looked forward to the expected confrontation.
He remained in the doorway, making no move toward the empty seats across from her desk. His blond hair was short, barely longer than the scruff on his face, and as she looked up she saw his eyes—a fierce, fiery blue filled with accusation and something that ranged between confusion and lust.
Meg stood and retrieved her suit coat off the rack, slid her arms through the expensive fabric, feeling the need to protect herself after all. In three-inch heels, she stood at almost five-eleven, but he still had half a foot on her. “What can I do for you?”
“This plan? Not gonna happen.” He didn’t elaborate, just made his statement sound like fact.
Pompous, arrogant jerk. He was probably used to flaunting his muscles to get his way. The Texas A&M shirt stretched over his massive chest, making him appear menacing and…hot. Horrified she even noticed, she tipped her head back and raised her eyebrow. “Why do you believe it’s not going to happen?”
His wide stance continued to rigidly occupy the doorway. “Season’s already started. My players won’t be benched because of a policy that might start half way through their season.”
The stereotypical football coach was obviously not used to having a woman as a boss, but Meg wouldn’t let him intimidate her. The job as principal at Newhall High School would be a challenge, but one she was ready to face.

Devyn focused, suckling on the metadata drifting in the atmosphere. Ah, she’d missed the city. The morsels of data streamed into her. Her synapses hummed, sated by the calming presence of her third eye’s power. For the first time in a week, she was whole again now that she was back in the bustling psychic sector of Chicago. Leaving the city and her team a week ago had been a difficult decision, but the right one. Her powers had become more focused without the residual white noise of bustling Chicago’s technological strain vying for her attention.
Now the same technology she’d shunned the past few days would save her. She accessed traffic and bank cameras—anything and everything that allowed eyes-on access to the enemy that was herding her into a proverbial cage. There were too many of them. No exit strategy existed.
Damn.
A strong arm encircled her waist, crushing her against a brick-like torso before she could react. Pain pierced her mind, radiating from her temples. Startled by the psychic intrusion, she writhed in her captor’s embrace and threw up what telepathic walls she could.
The bastard shattered each defensive layer she created. Hot breath fanned across her cheek when he lifted her up off her feet and planted a huge hand over her mouth. Dangling like a doll, she punched the meaty arms holding her captive.
“Enough.” The harsh psychic hammer pounded her into submission. She stilled, unable to maneuver past the thick mental fog he created. “I need you to be quiet if you want to live.”
That voice. Dagan. This was the contact she’d slipped info to at the SEO.
She clamped his wrist and pressed hard, but he maintained his hold. The proximity to one of the most lethal people in existence skittered apprehensive pangs along her spine. She’d chanced returning to Chicago because of him, but how had he known she’d be here?

The Dead Man’s Treasure

Kris Bock
Pig River Press
BUY LINK

Rebecca Westin is shocked when the grandfather she never knew leaves her a bona fide buried treasure – but only if she can decipher a complex series of clues leading to it. The hunt would be challenging enough without interference from her half-siblings, who are determined to find the treasure first and keep it for themselves. Good thing Rebecca has recruited some help, in the form of a green-eyed charmer determined to show her that a desert adventure can be sexy and fun. But there’s a treacherous wildcard, a man willing to do anything to get that treasure – and revenge.

Action and romance combine in this lively Southwestern adventure, complete with riddles the reader is invited to solve to identify historical and cultural sites around New Mexico.

EXCERPT
Rebecca’s hand shook as she reached for the box. It was a metal candy tin for peppermint bark. Maybe Grandpa had a sweet tooth? Or was this some random trash left by a tourist too lazy to bring it back to his car? She straightened and gazed down at the box. It had to hold the next clue. It would be too much of a coincidence – and too heartbreaking – if it were anything else.
She glanced at Sam and he nodded in encouragement, drawing close to her side. She swung open the lid. Several folded pieces of paper lay inside. A strip of masking tape on the inside lid had words in marker: “Take one and leave the others unless you are the last.”
Rebecca pulled out the top piece of paper and unfolded it.

Are they witches in disguise
Or prophets of the future?
The men who came here didn’t know.
They had destruction on their minds.
And they changed the world.
They ate of the flesh among bombers and bullets.
And so should you!

Then past the dead soldiers you’ll find a dead end.
One is the loneliest number
Walled off from its fellows.
Pay your respects and do not forget.

Another baffling poem. Rebecca wrinkled her nose. “This one’s kind of gruesome.”
“No kidding. What about the other papers?”
Rebecca crouched by a handy rock – not one with petroglyphs – and used it as a table. She pulled out the papers one by one and skimmed them. “They all seem to be the same.”
“We’d better double check to be sure. You read one and I’ll follow along on another.” They checked the five pieces of paper that way; all were identical.
“One for each of the grandchildren, I suppose. In case we weren’t working together.” Rebecca examined the box itself before returning four pieces of paper to it. Sophia would not be collecting her copy, but Rebecca couldn’t see any point in taking it, and the note said, “Take one.” Rebecca closed the box and stood.
For a moment, the world spun. She took a quick breath.

Getting Down and Dirty with #MFRWauthor @DPDenman It's Skin Deep.

Meet MFRW Author DP Denman.
Award winning author DP Denman writes character-driven contemporary romance about gay men. Her stories are real and intense, but resolve in endings that make people want to read the book all over again.

In her spare time, she is a dedicated LGBTQIA rights activist fighting for those who have been marginalized and abused. To that end, 25% of the royalties from every book go to support LGBT charities.

Generally, how long does it take you to write a book?
The first draft takes me about 30 days.

Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?
I write for at least two hours every morning, 365 days a year.

What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels?
I think they’re great as long as they move the story forward. Writing a love scene just to take up pages makes for a boring read.

Do you have a favorite series?
I have two. One is a paranormal thriller series, Cal and Niko, by Rob Thurman. The other is the Gabriel Allon suspense series by Daniel Silva. I can read them over and over again.

What can we expect from you in the future?
I have two more books coming out in 2015. One is a gay romance. One is a non-romantic thriller.

How do we find out about you and your books?
You can find out more about me and what I’m doing by visiting my blog: http://dpdenmanauthor.blogspot.com

How can readers/fans contact you?
Readers can contact me through my website: http://www.dpdenman.com

Tell us about your latest book.

Skin Deep is book two in the Saving Liam Series, an erotic GLBT Romance, with North Shore Press.

BOOK SPOTLIGHT: Poor Little Daddy's Girl by #MFRWauthor Normandie Alleman @NormandieA

Poor Little Daddy's Girl

Book 3, Daddy's Girl Series
by Normandie Alleman
Stormy Night Publications

Twenty-four-year-old Charmaine Bainbridge appears to have it all—beauty, fame, and tremendous wealth—yet behind all the glitz and glamor hides a sad little girl who has been abandoned by every man she’s ever loved.

When firefighter Hunter Baldwin saves Charmaine from a fire in her penthouse apartment—a blaze started by her own carelessness—he’s appalled by her nonchalant attitude. Forced to carry her to safety, he throws her over his shoulder, but not before correcting her behavior with a well-deserved spanking. Something about Charmaine arouses him deeply, and it isn’t just her gorgeous looks. This girl needs to be firmly corrected and thoroughly dominated, and a part of Hunter demands that he be the one to take her in hand. Though he’s used to charging into burning buildings on a daily basis, Hunter knows taming Charmaine’s wild ways may prove to be his greatest challenge yet. " A sexy firefighter tries to tame a wild, wealthy socialite after he rescues her from a fire she unwittingly set herself. If ever a woman needed taking in hand, it was this one. But training her may prove to be his greatest challenge yet.

REVIEWS
"I've always said that Daddy's Game by Normandie was my go to for a naughty read and that it was my favourite but Natron and Carmen...you gotta go!! Because there is a new couple in town and they are taking over everything! In this book we have the very 'oh good lord' handsome Hunter, he is a firefighter we met in Daddy's game and he is also the big gorgeous hero who saved Charmaine after she was a very careless naughty girl!! I will continue about Hunter but first can I just say that I think Hunter is the best Daddy so far!!...This book had me at start to finish and it's my favourite one now because these two made me laugh and made me blush but also made me weep. All in all, this is a great read for anyone who has all different kinks up their alley, Normandie done it again and wrote a brilliant book and one that will be my go to. I can't wait to read more by her."" ~JoAnne on Amazon

"It’s extremely hard to find an author who can write a Daddy/little girl book with great character development and storyline without heavily focusing on the smutty aspects of the relationship. Don’t get me wrong, there is some seriously hot smut in this book, but the story is there to provide a great balance. Not to mention amazing character development and growth…If you are a fan of romance with a twist of kink and a bit of the forbidden side of a BDSM relationships this is the book for you."" ~Mommy’s a Book Whore on Goodreads

EXCERPT
It was then he heard the screaming. He entered the apartment, ran down a hallway toward the noise, and quickly located a girl crying in the corner of a bedroom. Even through the haze of the fire, Hunter noticed the pure luxury of the apartment. The silver gilt bed frame looked as if it belonged at Versailles, the craftsmanship was so detailed and over the top.
“Fire department,” he said identifying himself. “Are you alright?” He took the girl by the arm.
She looked up at him with arresting blue eyes. “I think so.”
“Good, let’s get you out of here. Anyone else here?” he asked guiding her back to the door where Mitch was controlling the inferno with the fire-hose.
She shook her head no. “Just me,” she said, a startling loneliness shining in her eyes. He shook it off. He must be imagining things.
Mitch waved them past, “Anybody else?”
Hunter shook his head, “Negative. She’s the only one.”
“Take her down. I got Johnston and Pulaski on their way up. We got this.”
Hunter gave Mitch a thumbs up, put his arm around the girl’s waist and led her into the stairwell.
He took the stairs two at a time and she tried to keep pace with him. Once they reached the first landing, he turned to make sure she was following. She had no apparent injuries, except for possible smoke inhalation, but she was ambulatory, no need for him to carry her.
Taking her in he realized for the first time how beautiful she was. Her wild hair stuck out every which way. The unruly locks consisted of several different colors and it looked more like a mane than any hair he’d ever seen; she reminded him of a lion. Her blue eyes pierced his soul and mesmerized him at the same time. It was an unsettling combination. “Are you sure you’re not injured?” he asked.
“No, I’m okay,” she gazed up at him pitifully. “But my head hurts. Do you think they’ll ever turn off that freaking alarm?” She rubbed her temples.
“Once the fire is out,” he said.
“Crap! Can’t you make it sooner?” she pleaded.
He held out a hand to her and started down the next flight of stairs. “It’s not my job to see that it’s turned off. Somebody who works in the building will have to do it. Come on.”
She stalled on the top step, put her hands on her hips and stuck out a luscious bottom lip. “Can’t you carry me?”
He couldn’t have been more shocked if she’d slapped him. Carry her? Down sixty-something flights of stairs. Who did this bitch think she was, the Queen of England? Some people he’d rescued lost their mind in times of crisis and this girl was definitely one of them if she thought he was going to do that.
Remembering his position helped him control his urge to tell her where to stick it. He’d been passed up for captain once already due to his impulsive behavior in the field. The last thing he needed was the little rich girl making trouble for him.
