In Too Deep with #MFRWauthor Anita Philmar

In Too Deep by Anita Philmar
On the banks of the Trinity River, Sadie Pepperman is looking for a chance to escape the demands of her in-laws. With her husband’s dead, they want her to marry her brother-in-law so they can take control of her farm.

Suddenly, the peace of the day is shattered when her best friend steps too far into the river. Rushing to save her, Sadie meets a handsome stranger that ignites her dormant lust. She sees her friend rescued by a steamship and backs away from Logan Jansen, only to turn her ankle.

The agonizing pain leaves Sadie with the inability to walk. Needing help, she offers Logan a place to stay if he’ll help with the chores on her farm. With his agreement, Sadie adds another problem to her list. Now, not only does she have to worry about how to bring her crops in from the field and run her farm alone but she also has to fight her attraction to Logan.

Can Sadie end her in-laws’ interference in her life,  run her farm alone,  and give love another chance?
 Excerpt
“Easy there, sugar, we don’t want you to take a tumble.” Logan held her against the dense wall of his chest. His rich male scent sparked erotic visions in her head...of him lying over her, his body guarding hers as he drove them both wild with pleasure.
“Please, I’m a widow and I...” How could she explain the overwhelming craving to be touch by a man again? Not counting her total lack of willpower to resist him.
She met his gaze. But why him?
Yes, he was gorgeous and sort of resembled her deceased husband, but still, she had responsibilities that didn’t allow for such foolish fantasies.
A smile bloomed on Logan’s face, almost arrogance, yet strangely appealing too. “How long has your husband been dead?”
“A little over a year, but he’s been gone almost two.” Sadie bit her lip and shifted her weight. A throbbing pain pierced through her foot. She cringed.
Logan tightened his grip and eased her to one side to stare at her feet. “Sugar, I think you may have done some serious damage to your ankle.”
“No, I have too much to do. I can’t be laid up with a sore foot.” Sadie recalled the last time she’d injured herself. She’d had to call on Richard’s family for help. The incident had driven home the need to distance herself from them if she wanted to keep the property her husband had left her.
Logan kept one arm around her waist and bent to examine her ankle. Warm fingers brushed her skin briefly before he rose beside her. “Sorry, but its already swelling.”
“Oh, horse feathers,” she muttered, furious with how nothing seemed to be going her way today. First the overbearing heat, then Carolyn badgering to cut loose and later getting caught in the river current, followed by Sadie hurting her foot and the onset of unwanted desire for a stranger.

What Reviewers Say...
"I loved this book, it was sassy smart, and had some naughty bits to it! I really loved this book, I don't know how many times I can say it, it kept me entertained all the way through." Heather Andrews on Goodreads.

"This is the first book I have read about a Duke in modern times and I must say I really enjoyed it. I usually have only read about nobility in Historicals so it was a nice twist to see how an alpha male noble acts in the world today. I loved the growing romance between the two main characters and all the crazy stuff the heroine does trying to annoy the duke. I am looking forward to reading more in this series." Holy Heaven. She would never take a bath for granted again.

Violet stumbled on the stairs and the contents of the heavy bucket sloshed, dousing her with hot water. She sucked in a breath as pain seared. She set the bucket on the landing and pulled her skirts up. Her skin was red. She ruffled the tatters of her petticoats, waiting for the sting to subside.

The door to the Laird’s solar swung open. She stepped back so it wouldn’t hit her and it slammed into the wall. The McCloud glowered down at her. His gaze stalled on her bare legs. It was riveted—until she dropped her skirts—then he snapped, “What the hell is taking so long?” His glanced back at her damp skirts and his frown darkened. He picked up the last bucket and carried it to the tub, dumping it in himself. “For god’s sake. How long does it take to bring a few measly buckets up from the kitchen?”

A few measly buckets? It had taken twelve trips, each with a bucket that weighed near as much as she. Violet glared at him. “Is that enough?” She probably didn’t need to clip the words quite so much but she had already worked for hours. She was tired and sweaty and her skin ached and Morna was waiting for her to come help prepare dinner.

He swished his hand in the water. “Yes. I suppose that will do.”

Not a thank you. Not a smile. Nothing.

Beast.

She whirled and started for the door.

“Where do you think you’re going?” His voice rumbled, a deep tenor. Her steps slowed.

“Back to the kitchen.” She frowned at him over her shoulder. “I have work to do.”

“You have work to do here.”

“I beg your pardon?” What did he want her to do now, wash his bottom?

“You’re going to bathe me.”

Her heart stilled at his words, his intent, and especially his expression. “Wh-what?”

“Come now, Violet. The laird of the manor can’t be expected to scrub his own back, can he now? Be a good girl, close the door and come over here.”

She gaped at him. Gaped. He expected her to remain in a room with a naked man? He expected her to touch him?

“Close your mouth. You look like a trout.”

“But…I c-can’t. I can’t b-bathe you.”

“You can. And you will.” His eyes glimmered with something other than humor. The unspoken threat hummed in the stony chamber. “You may want to turn around while I undress, unless you want an early education.” He began to unbutton his shirt.

With an undignified eep, Violet whirled and showed him her back until she heard the splash and his gusty sigh.

“All right, girl. Get to work. Scrub my back.” He gestured to a chunk of soap and a sponge on a small table. She picked them up, approached the tub and knelt behind him, trying not to stare at the bunching muscles, the broad expanse of tanned skin. She couldn’t help but notice it was covered with scars. Long and short, crisscrossing over one another. As though he’d been brutally beaten and lashed time after time after—“Did you close the door?”

Her bubbling sympathy evaporated in a rush. She stuck her tongue out at him, but only because he couldn’t see. Then, with a heavy sigh, she levered herself off the floor and closed the door. Well, slammed it.

His chuckle annoyed her more.

He leaned forward and peeped at her over his shoulder. “Come along now. My back isn’t going to scrub itself.”

She took her place behind him again, being very careful not to look at his broad, be-furred chest as she approached. She wet the soap and sponge and created a lather. Being very careful not to touch him, she began to scour his back. He winced. “Not so hard.”

His plaintive tone probably shouldn’t have sent a shard of evil satisfaction through her, but it did. This man had been a boor to her from the moment he’d found her on the floor in Callum MacAllister’s cottage. She dug deeper.

He lurched forward. “Ouch!”

“Hold still,” she muttered, making a wide swath across the ridged skin. “You’re filthy. I need to scrub.”

“I am not filthy.”

“You are. Stop wriggling.”

Amazingly, he did, though her efforts bordered on abuse. But my, it felt good.

When she started on his neck and ears, he caught her wrist. “All right. I think that’s enough.”

“I’m not done.”

“Oh, you’re not done.” He tugged her around to the side of the tub so she faced him. She focused on his crooked nose, schooled her attention not to drift lower. “Now it’s time for you to scrub my front.”

She really disliked his tone. There was mischief—and something much darker—coiling in there. “Fine.” She dropped to her knees and wet the sponge again, but rather than dunking it, merely skimmed the surface of the water.

Fortunately the bath was murky, so she couldn’t see anything. But she knew what was down there and she didn’t want to find it by accident. She trained her attention on his chest, and her heart lurched.

A long, nasty scar scored him. Like a puckered lightning bolt, it made its jagged way from his left nipple down to his belly. Her pulse skittered. Her breath snagged in her throat. She’d only ever seen a scar like that once before.

A scar exactly like that.

Her gaze snapped back to his face. She looked at him. Really looked at him, perhaps for the first time. Her mouth went dry. The gray eyes laced by thick black lashes. The broad, smiling mouth. The curve of his jaw.

It couldn’t be. Could it?

“W-where did you get that scar?”

He glanced down and stilled. Annoyance flickered across his features. “Every man has scars.”

“Not-not like that.” She sat back on her haunches. She didn’t realize she was squeezing the sponge until water seeped through her skirts.

“All right. A knife fight.”

“Knives don’t cut like that.” It was uneven and rippled, as though the flesh and been shorn off in places and sliced in others.

“Well, it was a goddamn knife fight. I was in a vicious battle with a man in an alley. I gutted him.” His lip curled into a sneer. “Does it frighten you, my lady?”

“No.” But that was a lie. It did frighten her. Because Ewan, her friend, the boy who had saved her, had gotten an eerily similar wound rescuing her from a watery grave. And surely this wasn’t Ewan. It couldn’t be.

Ewan was gentle and sweet. He had liked her, maybe loved her. He had kissed her. And this man… This man had taken her prisoner and mauled her and put her to work.

And she hated him.

He couldn’t be Ewan. He couldn’t. It would break her heart.

“Goddamn it, girl, finish washing me. The water’s getting cold,” he barked

But she couldn’t. She needed to know. She had to know.

“It wasn’t a knife. It was ice.” A whisper, but he heard it. He froze, his gaze locked to hers. “You jumped in and found me in the water. Lifted me out. But you couldn’t get out yourself.”

“I don’t know what you’re babbling about.”

But he did. She could see it in his eyes. There, for a flash of an instant, she saw that boy in his eyes.

She licked suddenly dry lips. “Ewan? Is it you?”

He rose from the tub in an unholy rush. She didn’t have time to glanced away. The vision of his naked body, hard and lean, scarred and perfect, burned on her brain. He grabbed a cloth and covered his loins.

“This bath is over. Get out.”

She stood. Tried desperately not to tremble. “It is you. It is.”

“Get out. Go!”

“What happened to you, Ewan?”

A dark cloud lowered on his already stormy brow. “What happened to me? You mean how did I become the beast that I am?” The vitriol in his voice made her shake, but she didn’t back down.

“No, Ewan. Where did you go? No one would tell me and I always wondered…”

Every muscle in his body tensed, vibrated. Violet knew, because she could see them all, a magnificent panoply.

She should have been afraid. She should have been horrified. She should have skittered away like a frightened little rabbit. But she wasn’t afraid. She didn’t run.

She knew—knew—her Ewan would never hurt her.

Indeed, as he stared at her, his fury passed. He scrubbed a palm over his broad face. “Go,” he croaked. His tone was laced with an emotion she couldn’t decipher. Desolation? Greif? “Just go.”

This time, she did.

Getting DOWN & DIRTY with #MFRWorg @AuthorTinaGayle

We're getting Down & Dirty with MFRW Author Tina Gayle.

Tina Gayle grew up a dreamer and loved to escape into the world of books. She is currently working on two different series. The last book in the Executive Wives’ Club series will be coming out 2014. This series combines elements of women fiction with the passion of romance.

The Family Tree series has two books out with Fallen Leaves release in April of 2014. A paranormal romantic suspense series, the books follow the keeper of the Winston manor and the trials she has to overcome to remain in the house of her ancestors.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Tina answers some of our questions...

Q. Generally, how long does it take you to write a book?
A. Three to six months. I write every day for a few hours.

Q. Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?
A. I have changed throughout the years. I write a brief outline then let it flow.

Q. Tell us about your latest book.
A. My current book, Fallen Leaves is a romantic paranormal mystery so you can see it cross several genres. I love romance so all my books have romantic elements. It could also be described as an inspirational tale because of the spiritual guide elements in the story.

Q. How do you come up with story ideas?
A. They come from shows I’ve seen on TV, books, conversations, from anywhere. I have an active imagination so I’m seeing the world through a crazy lens that see stories in the strangest places.

Q. What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels?
A. You got to have them. I realize the heat level is different for every person but a romance isn’t a romance without some type of love scene.

Q. What does your husband/wife think of your writing?
A. My husband is not a fan of romance but he understand how much I enjoy them so he supports my writing and celebrates my publishing accomplishments.

Q. Do you ever ask him/her for advice?
A. Yes, but his answer is to kill off the character or blow something up not usually very helpful.

EXCERPT
The light from the bathroom exposed the cracks running through the worn tile floor. Add in scarred furnishings and shifting shadows playing across the off-white walls from the window; the eerie atmosphere in the cramped dorm room didn’t evoke a homey appeal.
The girl, standing in front of the dresser, didn’t notice. She stood like a statue with her gaze glued to the mirror. The reflection, staring back at her, had the same color eyes, nose, and facial features. Except for the permed hair on one head, they were identical.
“Delilah, why are you so interested in me visiting Amber?” Lilia queried, convinced her sister wasn’t sharing everything she knew concerning the woman. “You’ve never even met her.”
“Yes, but she lives in Hawkins County, near Newark. That’s where the lawyer lived who handled our adoption,” the apparition stated, driving home the fact as if it was new information.
“But he’s dead. He can’t help us now.” Lilia shifted restlessly, irritated with the interruption and unwilling to deal with her sister’s restless spirit at the moment. She had a shitload of assignments due tomorrow.
“I know,” Delilah responded sarcastically. “Who do you think was in the car with him when he hit the tree?”
Lilia waved the comment aside. “Yes, but Amber doesn’t know anything about the accident. She only moved here from California a few months ago, and I don’t have time right now to track down leads on where our mother is.”
The reoccurring argument played through her head, and she fought to dampen her sister’s excitement. “It’ll have to wait until I get settled here at school.”
“But that’s the point.” Delilah didn’t let the subject drop. “Susan’s friend might be able to help you with the search.”
“She won’t want to take on our problem.”
“You can ask.”
Lilia stared at her twin, who in appearance resembled her in every way. Her sister had a very compulsive personality, which had driven her to seek answers about their parentage and had caused her death. Why couldn’t she just let go?
“Okay, I’ll call her. Between you and Susan, you’d think the lady was the best thing since sliced bread.” Lilia turned away from the mirror and refused to glance back at the image. “Now, leave me alone. I have homework to do.”

#Thursday13 Romantic Ideas @AnitaPhilmar #MFRWorg Featured Author

13 Romantic Ideas from Anita Philmar
I believe we all struggle to keep romance alive in our relationship. There seems to be so many factors working against us. So I created a blog where I give people ideas as to how to keep the magic alive. http://anitaphilmar.wordpress.com/

Here are 13 ideas to start you off...
1. Write a note, letter, poem and give it to your lover.
2. Draw a bubble bath for your lover, or take one together.
3. Read an erotic story together.
4. Say the simple little words – I love you.
5. Turn off the television for the night and talk.
6. Take an evening stroll, just the two of you.
7. Buy your lover flowers, can’t afford any...why not pick some?
8. Escape for the weekend for a romantic retreat.
9. Listen to music and dance in your living room, kitchen, bedroom.
10. Explore new places, stores, restaurants, museums, fairs, hiking trails, etc.
11. Hold hands.
12. Count your kisses and make sure you get in at least ten a day.
13. Remember to make romance a part of your day.

It’s not hard and it doesn’t require sweeping gestures or lots of money. The little things in life are just as important as the big.

Best of luck at keeping the love alive,
Anita

Read An Excerpt from Anita's latest book, In Too Deep...
“Zack, damn it.”The loud shout caught Sadie by surprise. She scanned the shoreline and spotted a man. Drawing to a stop, she threw on the brake, scouting the river bank. Two horses grazed nearby. Their saddles, along with other gear, lay discarded in a heap in the middle of a small clearing, as if two people had camped there over night.A man stood at the edge of the clearing, turning at her approach. Dressed in only a pair of dark cotton pants, he rushed forward. His bright, curly blond hair and his broad shoulders registered briefly with Sadie but with her friend in trouble she didn’t let her sway her from the problem at hand.“Are you a friend of the woman who is drowning?”Unable to certain what to say to the stranger, she nodded and worked to clear the lump in her throat. How did this man know about Carolyn?“Move over. I’ll drive. If we hurry I should be able to save her and my friend.” He placed a foot on the side step of the wagon and crowded onto the bench. She quickly scooted along the wooden plank, allowing him room to settle beside her. Long fingers closed over the reins and he tugged the leather from her grip.He didn’t wait for an answer. Lifting the reins, he released the brake.A loud whistle sounded from the river, followed almost immediately by the slapping of paddles against the water. The man clicked his tongue to encourage Beauty to get moving. He drove the wagon closer to the edge of the river, creating a rough new trail.Bouncing on the seat like a rag doll, Sadie tried to keep her distance from the man, even though the task was next to impossible with the constant swaying of the wagon. She continually brushed against his arm, shoulder and thigh. A particularly hard bump almost landed in his lap.“I’m sorry, but you need to slow down,” she complained and straightened. He drew back on the reins; the wagon rolled to a stop. His head turned in the other direction. He shifted away from her and jumped down from the wagon before she repositioned herself on the bench. “Damn that steamship. They’re rescuing them.”A little stunned by everything that had happened, Sadie lifted a hand to her throat. Her gaze stayed locked on Logan until his comment finally registered. She glanced at the water and noticed a steamboat cruising down-river. A line hung from the side with two people hanging from the end.She scrambled off the wagon to keep the boat in sight as it moved farther away. “Oh, no, where will it take them?”“Probably to the next port, maybe Liberty or on into Galveston.”  When the steamboat rounded a bend and drifted out of sight, the stranger turned. His gaze grew in intensity as he scanned the length of her body. “I’m Logan by the way.”
In Too Deep
On the banks of the Trinity River, Sadie Pepperman is looking for a chance to escape the demands of her in-laws. With her husband’s dead, they want her to marry her brother-in-law so they can take control of her farm.

The agonizing pain leaves Sadie with the inability to walk. Needing help, she offers Logan a place to stay if he’ll help with the chores on her farm. With his agreement, Sadie adds another problem to her list. BOOK SPOTLIGHT: Second Chance @M_oSullivan26 #MFRWauthor

MFRW Author Martha O'Sullivan released SECOND CHANCE, a Contemporary Romance, in September 2013 with Red Sage Publishing.

Book Blurb
Lindsay Foster has convinced herself that marrying Paul Webster is the right thing to do. But she and Brian Rembrandt have some unfinished business. And Brian never met a rule, or a woman, that couldn't be broken. So when Lindsay won't come to him, he goes to her. But this love triangle has an extra side. And even Brian is no match for what happens next.
Excerpt
She’d lain in bed many a night dreaming about this. Remembering the way her head bowed back as Brian kneaded her breasts with his sure hands. The way her gut coiled into a spool of yen when his tongue did laps down her abdomen to her bellybutton and back again. The way the euphoric swooning in her head became a creamy deluge between her thighs.

He reacquainted himself with her curves as he inched her jeans down. Holding their weighted stare, he knelt above her, unbuttoning his tailored shirt from the top as she worked from the bottom. When their hands met, he stilled hers on this virility.

“Ooh,” she growled blissfully. He was as hard as she was wet. And she couldn’t wait until his billowing cock was between her legs.

Unbuckling his belt, he kicked off his jeans. Fully aroused, he glided all that separated them over her hips and crawled back to her. His seeping erection nudged at her as he scooped her dewy triangle. Every cell in her body was on high alert now, in anticipation of what was to come. She spread her legs in wholehearted invitation.

She whimpered when he found her moist creases. His fingers knew each tuck, each fold, each pleat of her center. His thumb settled on the fleshy nub at her core and he began to coddle her. She trembled, purred, pleaded, until finally he plunged into her saturated reservoir. His fingers thrust in and out as she squirmed beneath him, digging her nails into his back as her sharp, short gasps of baiting pleasure filled the air.

But that was nothing compared to the drone that escaped Brian’s throat when he entered her. She tightened around him, dripping as he grew inside her, grinding against him as he rode her. She lifted her buttocks and brought him deeper still, raising her hips to increase the friction, pushing him farther into her as his abdomen sailed over hers. Lindsay could count her stable of lovers on one hand, and Brian was by far the best of the bunch, she recalled as the tip of him pounded the remotest part of her. The orgasm built, retreated, then roared back in full force. It ripped through her with such wielding power that she howled once, then again and begged for more.

And just before Brian filled her, he obliged.

BOOK SPOTLIGHT: Second Chances @PFiala #MFRWauthor

When uncontrollable passions collide, and the past hovers at the edge of their relationship; can Sam and Gray find their happily ever after?

MFRW Author PJ Fiala released SECOND CHANCES, an Erotic
Romance, with Archway Publishing in February 2014.

Blurb
After a nearly 30 year marriage to a man suffering from depression, Samantha Powell has decided a nice quiet, drama-free life is for her. She has demons to combat and self-esteem issues to overcome. She has decided to sell her house and find a nice little condo that places virtually no maintenance demands on her and allows her to work on herself for a while.

Grayson Kinkaide has waited his whole life, all 55 years of it, looking for his soul mate, the other half of himself. He suffered through an awful marriage with a manipulative selfish woman that almost brought him to his knees. The only things that kept him strong were his children and his growing business.

When Gray meets Sam both of their lives are changed drastically. Sam’s dream of a drama-free life is jerked from her grasp as Gray’s exes do everything in their power to tear them apart. Gray finds himself having to fight, hard, to convince Sam they are meant to be together.
Excerpt
…Just then, Mrs. Koepple said, “Mr. Kinkaide, she really is a wonderful person. Don’t let this chance pass you by.”
She said it with a wink at him and he smiled a little bigger.
Sam couldn’t imagine any woman could resist that smile. Grayson told Mrs. Koepple, “I promise you I will make every effort to not let the opportunity pass me by.” Sam’s eyes were huge as she gaped at the three of them, mouth ajar. Jessie giggled and Sam looked at her with that same look on her face.
Jessie’s smile was huge. She winked at Sam and said, “That Mrs. Koepple sure knows how to make an exit.”
As Grayson turned to walk back into the room, Bill Chase walked into the room from behind Sam. He saw Grayson helping Mrs. Koepple and Alfred out the door and smiled.
“I see you met Mrs. Koepple and Alfred. They’re a cute couple, aren’t they?”
Grayson smiled again. Oh my God, that smile! He nodded at Bill, then looked at Sam. His eyes were so beautiful—dark like black coffee with thick lashes surrounding them. A sigh escaped Sam and Bill gave her a sideways glance. She blushed again and said a mental Crap.
Bill walked forward and shook hands with Grayson and Jackson. Sam was rooted to the spot just watching them, him.
Bill said, “Gray, it’s about time I got you to come to me for legal assistance. I was beginning to wonder if I could ever talk you into it.”
Grayson smiled and looked at Jackson, who was smiling as well.
Jackson finally spoke up and said, “Well, Grandpa was really insistent that we use his attorney over the years, but now that he’s retiring, we felt we could make the move.”
Grayson and Bill talked like they were friends. Finally, Bill turned and started leading the way to the conference room, which was a cue to stop gaping and go back to work. Sam looked over at Jessie, who had a huge grin on her face.
Sam shook her head and started to turn and walk back to her office when Grayson said, “Sam, may I have a word with you?”
Sam froze in her tracks, took a deep breath, and slowly turned back around to face him. Bill looked first at Grayson and at Sam with a furrow in his brow.
“Is there anything wrong, Gray?”

Jackson put his hand on Bill’s shoulder and chuckled as he said, “I’ll fill you in on our interesting morning.”

About PJ
I have waited a lifetime to begin my writing career. I was always waiting for the right time. It is now. Last year, I wrote three books, the first, Second Chances, to be published in February 2014. The other two; Dog Days of Summer and Rydin the Storm Out, part of the Rolling Thunder series, I will be publishing myself this year. I have now written my fourth book, Gunnin for You, which I hope will be out soon after Rydin the Storm Out.

I read approximately 75 books each year and love to read and share them with others. My husband and I are bikers and tour the country with friends and family.

#MFRWorg presents our April Featured Author @AnitaPhilmar

Meet Anita
Anita Philmar likes to create stories that push the limit. A writer by day and a dreamer by night she wants her readers to see the world in a new way. Influenced by sci-fi programs, she likes to develop places where anything can happen and where erotic moments come to life in a great read.

Naughty or Nice?
Read her books and decide.
Anita's Writing Process
Funny, how what we believe a job to be and the actual demands of a job can be worlds apart.
As an author, I spend hours in front of a computer.  Stories read in a few hours can take days to write and that’s only the first step in the process.

My normal schedule starts around 6:30. I spend most of the morning checking and answering emails, stopping by my social sites like twitter, my blog, facebook, and other author venues. I’m never exactly sure how long it will take. Then once I’m satisfied or ready for a new task, I jump into my writing.

If it is a new story, I’m busy doing the first draft which can take days if not weeks to complete depend on the length of the story. Once that is done then I start the rewrite phrase of checking for flow, grammar, description, always making sure to add more to the story and remove the unnecessary parts.

After rewriting the story, I send it to my editor who comments and correct things that I’ve missed. While she is busy with this, I usually contact my cover designer and work with her on creating the cover.

Then when I have finished my editor’s corrections and the cover is ready, I work on formatting my book for amazon and smashword.

After the book goes live, I start the promotion tasks needed to tell my readers about my book and decide on my next project.

Before becoming a writer, I envisioned authors completing their stories in a few days, the painstaking fight for the right word, coming to them with ease. Now, that I know the true that it can be a hard process. It doesn’t change my love of writing. Instead, I believe I have a better understand of how wonderful it is to read a story that touches our hearts.
